Drive on doable as is.  Not much different to setup on my trailer with a 5.6m quinnie.   I managed ok with your setup but recently added another post and extended v to help direct on to the rear roller.  I often fish by myself so also added a boat catch to the front.

I had a spring loaded set of v rollers on my previous rig and realy liked it but couldnt fit to this trailer,  however it looks like they could be fitted to yours.  Lastly make sure your rollers roll well.  I made my own stainless steel axles from rod the same diameter as roller axles and recommend this to everyone regarless of whether you drive on or winch.  Ron

Agree with this. That trailer is drive on already. It's up to you to get the trailer depth right, judge wind, tide, speed etc.I've drives my boat on with same trailer too.

Mitsubishi called me back about pricing sounds good but no delivery till maybe February not good my mechanic has put a head gasket Sealer into the old Ute have to drive it for a week and take it back to him he says if it seals it should be good for a fair while I'm hoping it works but will take a bit for me to be confident in it.i   like the old girl but thought of new one was nice.2nd handprices are crazy a few dual cabs with over 300000 km their asking over $20000

The mechanic that does my pink slip always nags me to sell him my hilux. It's a 2003 dual cab v6 with 96,000km on it.I went to pick an item up from a bloke I bought from on gum tree and he wanted it too.

It ain't going anywhere as I hate all the new utes from all brands.

You don't see many if any as straight as mine and with those kays.

      I've never seen one.

Will ask how much for 4x4 but I probably  used it once at a ramp bi

That once could be the once that saves you.I sound like John Symons now.At aussie,we'll save you.

Yep, that comes under the common sense clause, we all know some people have very limited amounts 😅

I even think a front wheel drive vehicle could be more of an advantage over rear wheel drive in deploying & retrieving in most cases but that would also depend on the ball weight, if it is an under matched vehicle to boat weight then it could be worse if unweighting the front?

My boat isn't a heavyweight at 550kg ready to tow.My little Kia Cerato(fwd) puts it in/out of the water without even spinning a wheel.Mines a 6 sp auto.Pull out 2nd gear.Always in park, handbrake on and wheel chock behind rear wheel when launching and retrieving.

She tows my boat up and down steep hills like Mount Ousley and Bulli pass like  trooper too and uses 8l per 100km towing.

Heavier rigs may be different.Bil towed a heavy glass boat with a TJ v6 magna (fwd) no issues either for years.

What's the difference in price between two wheel drive and four? if it's not too dramatic, it might be better to go the 4X4 for those few occasions when you need it.

It's certainly not loose change that's for sure.

Not sure what single cab vs dual cab has anything to do with towing a boat or for deploying & retrieving?

Any vehicle for towing needs to be suitably powered & rated to tow the weight, have decent tyre's & suspension as well.

All ramps are different & some a quite steep, then throw in a low tide & some algae into the equation & thats how cars end up in the drink.

People need to get out & have a look at the ramp before backing up, even more so if its a ramp they have never used or have not used for a while.

Also does not hurt to have some wheel chocks in the car either.

    Is having a 4x4 an advantage..................................absolutely!

Make sure your trailer is in good condition as well!

I think the publisher of this vid got the title all wrong, dodgy trailer more like it!!

I wonder how many rigs that have drowned is because the driver didn't put it in park/first gear with the handbrake firmly engaged?I'm 100% certain there's vehicles out there pulling way more than they are legally aloud too from what I've seen too. Also have a look at some of the tyres on tow vehicles at some of the ramps.I wouldn't put them on a dinky as a dinky has more tread.

Looks great, Frank. I’ve been thinking of getting a boat catch for a while. The only thing that’s held me back has been my doubts about how the hell I’d climb down over the bow to get to the car! 😂😂

I'm still at the stage of thinking how will I fit through the windscreen.

  7. I think I'm in a bit of a pickle now.Since Covid began I've been pumping iron hard again and just discovered I can't fit through my windscreen in my boat anymore and my darts are nearly going through the board now.🤔🤔Thinking of widening the windscreen and putting significantly shorter points in my darts or maybe spraying myself with silicon spray everytime I need to get through the windscreen.😂😂

Mrs is whinging I eat too much too.🙄I put on a t-shirt that fit 6 months ago that looks like a bib on me now too.

Let's hope this lockdown ends before i can't fit through the front door.

Hey fab that is my main concern I don't want to spend on what I don't need so trying to make sure a single cab will work.i normally launch at parsley bay so it's well maintained.i was posting a week or so ago about prices  of new outboard and car crapped itself so a large expense was not what I was expecting. 1 company is doing 10 yrs warranty and 10 yrs capped servicing is attractive as I hold onto my things

Single cab will work.If you look around you'll see them being used as tugs.I'm not familiar with that ramp but if it's well maintained you shouldn't have issues.

Like I said a simple chock on a rope is a simple cheap added bit of security and so is something in the tray over the back axle.

As for car warranties most aren't worth the paper they are written on.My Kia came with 7yrs capped and unlimited km warranty(2 yrs remaining) I service everything myself(They can keep their warranty the crooks.

I'm with you mate.Replacing new vehicles every 3 yrs or so is a mugs game in my opinion.I drive mine into the ground and get my monies worth. My last car I drove it into the ground over 15yrs before I bought this one.

    Good luck with your purchase.

These days, I'd say, as family sedans like falcon and commodore went out of fashion as small to medium SUV took over. So it's either them or a dual cab 4x4 for towing now. Although I've seen Camry towing a boat, I'd personally not trust one.

My 307,000 km au falcon sure does great towing.

AU Falcon was one of the best falcons ever made. The wagon variant is even better with the long wheelbase and leaf spring rear end.Au started fixing the blown head gasket issue with the E series.

I had an 88 EA wagon 5sp manual with the 3.9 litre multi point engine and fitted a Au head gasket and Garrett super charger.Lets just say I didn't slow down coming up Mt Ousley or bulli pass in it with my old fibreglass heavy boat on the back.

29 minutes ago, Bryant fish said:

The Ford's were good but they really hit the au with the ugly stick

They are fairly ugly some of them. The xr6 and 8 were an improvement. As above I had an Ea with a supercharger that went like a rocket.Like with most falcons and Commodores rust is an issue with many of them and clutch cables and firewalls in many of them.I put hydraulic clutch in my Ea as the novelty of broken clutch cables and welding cracked firewall wore off quickly for me.

Use to have falcon and Holden they were great for towing and like driving a lounge so comfortable. If I didn't need a Ute I'd prefer a sedan don't no what the obsession with dual cabs is

Don't expect a ute to ride or behave like a car too.My hilux is like a tank, rides like a tank, but will go anywhere pretty much. When I want comfort I drive my Kia cerato and even tow my tinny with it.Best of both worlds for a small boat tow car I guess.

Both single and dual cab utes are light over the rear axle compared to say a wagon/sedan.You shouldn't have trouble on dry ramps at high tide but get low tide and ramp slime and even the best utes can start to wheel spin/slide.

I have a 4wd dual cab hilux 2004 (Last of the japs) and I can tell you with excellent all terrain tyres and in 4wd at low tide with ramp slime in low range second gear I started spinning and going backwards once pulling my 550kg tinny out of the water at Windang.I slid back about 4 feet before she gripped and pulled her out.

I thought I was going swimming.

My advice is Always chock your car wheel use second gear and pull out SLOWLY.If you can carry weight of some sort over the rear axle too.

  13. I guess that's one of the benefits of having a small boat on an unbraked trailer.0 $ for brakes and maintenance. Those pistons look like they've been salvaged from underneath the Titanic.

Pros and cons to everything in life but they may as well have made those pistons out of sugar cubes.

I put up about 6 panels of colour bond fence at my sons place last summer, it was about 40 degrees, no shade, and the ground was like concrete, every hole had to be dug with a bar and a pick, lucky I was the "brains" and he was the brawn.......his words "this is shit work" I just said "welcome to home ownership"

We have acreage and horses.Shit work is fencing acres with a hand auger and crowbar.Guess who the idiot that's done that dozens of times now.🙋‍♂️

Thank you. It was as busy as Pitt Street on the water, and the beach was packed as well. I had an early swim on Sunday morning at Wanda, not too many waves, and the water is still cool.

They can have that.I'm at my happiest when any pest(human) is a kilometer away from me and it seems the fish are too.😂😂

Noel. The guy that is doing the job seems to know what he is doing.

Old fence removed and new color bond about 1/3 of the job done.

We are using brackets to bolt to the concrete floor instead of sinking posts . We will concrete over them to tidy them up a bit.

Did he weld the nuts on the dyna bolts so the fence can't be stolen?

Don't laugh my mate laid turf and came outside the next morning to admire his handy work to be greeted by bare dirt. They steal anything these days.

Even if you replaced the Tohatsu's with 40hp mercks etc you would be up for around $16000 fitted.

The price of outboard motors is ridiculous you can buy a cheap little car for not much more than a 90hp motor .

Pricing on most things these days are getting way out of control.

I just got a quote for plumbing to replace 2.5 metres of pipe and a junction with easy access to the problem area. $19,997,10 . I would like to know where they got the 10 cents from.

The guy was here for 20 minutes and it cost me $1286 for the quote.

EXTORSION, they see an old aged pensioner and decide they want to rip them off.

    Frank

Keep up with the times mate.Haven't you heard plumbing pipes are made from thick walled diamond encrusted gold?Apparently the plumbers themselves wear the same type of under pants too.

You don't need to be a brain surgeon to be a plumber.Judging by the shoddy work I've seen them do I wouldn't let them end cap a drinking straw.

I'm sure they're are really good ones out there that don't charge 10 times the price the jobs worth and do quality work.I'm yet to meet them.

Just ask around what people have been charged changing tap washers, sink mixers etc any brain dead person  can do.It's a joke!!!

Sorry to hear you got taken for a ride mate.Unfortunately morals are a thing of the past these days and the mighty $ and greed rule.

Thank God I've never needed to pay a trades person ever thus far.

      Take care mate.

Headed out early this morning near Lilli Pilli. Pulled out the reddies and flatties on squid and pillies. Only just pan sized reds, and both flatties are Blue Spots. Also pulled up an average sized blue swimmer that I forgot to add to the photo. A couple of surface fish near me for only a short time, maybe small tailor.

Headed to Maianbar flats, pumped some nippers and waded about for a while until the whiting turned up near the top of the tide. Patches of kelp rolling along and tangling the line, and plenty of small toads pinching baits. Happy with the result for this time of year.fish.jpeg.315_files_files.thumb.jpg.a72aed2146fa2c60861f3ce6222d2895.jpg

I'd be happy with that feed at any time of year, decade, century.Well done again!! Just a quick question...does your boat run out of fuel after Lilli Pilli or do you break a paddle?😂😂Good work.

Totally agree Fab.  Appears I don’t live to far from you. I sat in my boat for a couple of hours the other day. Cleaned a few things in, removed the radio aerial (both to be replaced).  Just chilled in the boat and enjoyed my alone time.

Can’t wait to hit the water again.

5 minutes away as the crow flies.I sit in my boat in the garage with a peeled prawn on the hook for bait and toss it over the side.I tell my son to sneak in after five minutes to rip the prawn off the hook to imitate my real fishing adventures when I wind in a bare hook.😂😂
