    Fab,

do you look at a fishing app before you head out?

No, I lick my finger and hold it out of the bedroom window. If I don't feel a breeze..... I get up,have brekkie, hook the boat up and head off to feed the fishes.

If I stick my finger out the window and feel a breeze I roll over and keep sleeping.

If I'm sleeping and feel a breeze under the blanket.I give the mrs a swift kick up the clacker and kick her out of the room for farting.

Hi Kingie Chaser thanks for your reply and insight I also suspect La Niña is having an impact. I am concerned however when you monitor weather for a week and ten while forecast is wrong and not adjusted as an FYI I will be contacting BOM tomorrow with some feedback.. everyone makes the usual remarks about weather but when governments give millions off dollars a year to these people I expect more

Unfortunately there's no guarantees in life.Like the others said take weather reports with  a grain of salt.

I would use them combined with waking up in the morning, going outside for a look then deciding if you should proceed with one final look at weather for your intended location.

If you decide to proceed...re-access on your arrival and decide to go ahead or return home from there .Constantly access current wind conditions while your'e out there too.

I can assure you that's pretty much what everyone does.

As for ringing them up and expecting any changes or gaurantee's I wouldn't  hold your breath as nothings going to change.

     Hope this helps.

Just get out there as much as you can and enjoy the day for what it is.

     Stay safe!!

Thanks noelm! I have been paranoid about drilling holes or putting screws anywhere into the boat as I read about mixing metals creating rust problems. Good to hear that the installation of the catch & release shouldn't cause this problem. I assume the hardware they supply with the C&R must be some sort of galvanised metal to avoid the mixing metals issue...

The hardware on all the versions is stainless steel. The whole units are stainless.

You will have to drill into your trailer and bow/eye of your boat when fitting any of them too.

As for corrosion it's enivitable on a painted boat that sooner or later it will strike no matter what.

That's the nature of painted ally boats hence why mine is unpainted.

A cheap/better alternative to a overpriced boat catch/latch of any sort in my opinion is a simple rope attached to trailer which you simply tie off to a cleat/rail when driving off/on.No holes in boat and your wallet stays full much longer.

      Each to their own.

      Good luck.

Nice Jew mate. Great stuff, maybe the other boat had nav light problems as well, at least that is what they would claim their light situation to be.

Everyone knows when the cops come all you need to say is I'm waiting for a mate.😉

REN 460 that is just bullshit $6000 to $7000 tops ,the seller  must me waiting for a real dumb consumer to come say hi ,at the end of the day all used boats on the market have been over priced, but i reckon that none are really selling at 70% over there real value .i  reckon when the deal is done its 10% up on 2020 prices cheers dunc 333

New ones are a ripoff too.i remember 10yrs ago you use to get a busta for less than 10k.They are pretty much double now.Wages certainly haven't doubled.

I have an estuary angler similar to this one.4 people or 2 adults and 2 kids for a cruise/picnic is fine but I wouldn't fish 4 up.2 up for fishing is ideal for one of these boats. We fish three up and it is cosy.

Being a run about configuration  it will provide shelter for you and your kids more than say an open boat.

Mine is unpainted for ease of maintenance running a yamaha 30 hp 2 stroke which is still plenty even 3 up it goes really well.Cut through chop really well, handles well, easy to tow, maintain, launch, garage, etc.

Whatever boat you buy make sure you take someone to look over it or pay someone to look over it for you.

The trailer is Just as imlortant as the engine and hull in my opinion because without it you have an expensive garden gnome.

My suggestion is decide on the type of boat...run about, open, forward steer, tiller, etc then specifically go out looking for something YOU CAN AFFORD based on that.

I would go aluminium for your first boat and unpainted if possible as painted boats nearly always have issues.(They don't stay looking nice for long). The main thing is get someone to at least check things like engine compression, lower gear oil,All welds for cracks, lift floor if possible, check trailer bearings, and visually inspect everything for condition, deterioration. Operate everything, listen, hear, smell look for anything odd.

There's a million things you can check and even without much experience common sense and your senses can tell you alot from a boat package.

      Good luck.

    Ok. Fair enough,

Yes, depending on the boat you are after.

Maybe because I have old pongrass surfmaster runabout that goes well in the harbour, and I tow it with an AU falcon. Neither are pretty but both very functional.

I let others comment about rock fishing.

Don't knock the Au mate. The online straight sixes in the Falcon range(especially wagons with the leaf spring rear and longer wheelbase) Have Towed probably more than any other vehicle different trailers the breadth and width of Australia.I had a wagon with the 5 speed t5 tranny.

Fish under a bridge. Surely the fish will be under it so they don’t get wet. 😉 😂

The WillyWeather app now gives rain alerts based on radar activity, which I am finding are surprisingly accurate. I can get a notification on my phone and Apple Watch that, for example, “a brief shower should arrive in 2 minutes…”. It allows me to get the clothes off the line or grab an umbrella etc. I can see it being beneficial when fishing.

I just yell out......."honey, you've got 2 mins to bring the washing in before it gets wet".😂🤣

  9. Years ago I went to the boat ramp on the minnamurra river just under the bridge there on my way back from Nowra to check it out.

I was with the mrs and mil.We launched within minutes and were off exploring and fishing(first time there) for a few hours only to find on the way back it was getting very shallow and my prop was bottoming out on the sand.

I got to the point where I was  still fairly far from the ramp( I could not see it) and couldn't continue on so had to tilt the motor up,get out and pull my boat along with a rope fully laden with the mrs,mil and my boy sitting in it as land bases fishos had to all wind there lines in while this imbecille(me) pulls his family and boat past them through the shallows.

Mrs eventually gets out and helps push boat and decides to walk ahead.I see she'd stopped at the final bend before we could see the ramp and her look on her face said it all.

I finally catch up to her and as I peer around the corner with my boat, mil and son still being dragged by me I could see the ramp.

Problem was the end of the ramp  to the waters edge was a good 30 meters away with wet sand in between the two.The tide had gone out further than I thought.

So I had a brainstorm and decided I'd back the wagon/trailer down hoping I wouldn't sink in the sand, skull drag the boat on the trailer then drive off.No worries.

By now I managed to drag the boat on the trailer with one final instruction to the mil and mrs.

I told them to push on the rear door of my wagon to help as I take off in case I get wheel spin and get bogged when I said now!

I yelled out to them now! And took off up the ramp to look back in the rear vision mirror to see them both lying prone in the sand  then look up with both their faces covered in sand.🤣

They looked like mrs Doubt fire in that scene with the pie in the fridge. 🤣 except it was obviously sand.

Anyway,I never did forget to check the tides since that day ever again. Those fisherman fishing on the bank have probably retold the story of that imbecille trudging along pulling his family and his boat along too.

      Cheers.

Some do roar past a bit too close. A heat seeker missile would solve that problem. :074:

There are a few fishos and other boaties that would like them banned from the Hacking (and probably elsewhere)

They'd only roar past once with a steel cable spanned across the river at neck height too.I'm guessing it would be very tranquil fishing after that.😉

    Thank you.

I think there are quite a few boats launching at Grays most of the day, though I have not been there for a long while. Bruce (hookerbruce) tells me it is busy some days and not too bad on others.

    Cheers mate.

  12. Happy New year everyone.I celebrated Xmas eve with my mum on her birthday(80) and now I'm celebrating New yrs day with the Mother inlaw on her birthday too.(80 also).Make the most of your time with family and friends guys as life is short and we certainly don't know how long we are on this earth for.

OK, here's a classic example, a week or so ago, I got some Nippers and fished near the Kiosk on the southern side of Lake Illawarra, it's a tourist "hot spot" lots of swimmers, tourists fishing, lots of general activity, the current is slight if you fish in the right spot, but ferocious out towards the channel and in the deep spot where the channel is close to shore. My setup was about as simple as it gets, a light whippy rod, about 3KG line, a long shank hook and a ball sinker (00 size) about 3mm across, all my tackle was in a little container in my pocket, and a keeper net tucked into my pocket too. I fish a big sand flat at a rising half tide, the flats getting deeper as the tide comes in, the Nippers are in a small bucket, thread one on the hook, making sure it stays alive, and is nice and straight (like a live Nipper is when swimming around) first cast is a just legal Whiting, next cast, a missed bite, then a nice Bream, after about half an hour, I had a few Whiting, the Bream and a big Garfish, started packing up and these two tourist types come over and start asking questions about why they had caught nothing.

I looked at their gear, they had a couple of department store combos, about 10' Long, about 20lb line, a big swivel and a decent barrel sinker, and about a 4/0 hook and a couple of packets of frozen squid and prawns. Seeing as they seemed nice, and took the time to ask, I showed them my gear, explained why I was fishing up on the flats, and why I was using Nippers for bait. They took what I said seriously and I offered to see if I tied some of my 3KG line to theirs (double uni knot) with my long shank hooks and my few remaining Nippers, and see if they could still use their rods. First cast, the lady caught a Whiting, she was thrilled to bits, they thanked my a thousand times and told me they were going to the local tackle store right now to buy two new rods, reels and line, I don't know if they did, but hopefully it might have helped them in the future to think about what you are fishing for, where those fish might be, and how to give yourself the best chance of catching them.

Thinking is what catches fish, not secret locations and stuff like that, look around you and see what fish do, how they catch their food, what they eat, it doesn't work every time, but it gives you the best shot at being consistent, target a single species until you work them out!

Good on you for taking time out to help them mate.I imagine the lake is being beaten to a froth right now too.
