I find pulling the anchor up by hand in 20,30 or more meters of water puts hair on my chest. Its a fantastic upper body excercise, especially forearm and back to remind you your still alive.

I always did wonder where my nickname popeye came from.

Im willing to provide training free of charge to you Rick.?

I could be wrong but from what I have read, you have to get your E-Tec serviced at an "authorised service centre" to keep the warranty. I'm not sure who that means exactly? What are their rates and charges on parts, oils etc to service an E-Tec?

Well,if i owned one id like it in writting where and where not i could service it without voiding the warranty. I think you'll find its illegal for them to tell you you must have it serviced by them as long as the guidelines i stated above are followed.

If anyone finds out please post it here so others know where they stand on the matter.

     Thanks.

  3. Hi jon,

A solution to your issue is to cut the hoses and fit a brass hose splitter and you'll  never have to worry again.

Also try soaking the rubber cups in hot water for a few seconds to make them more pliable and seal better.

    Cheers.

  4. Did you drive the races all the way home after you where flush with the face of the hub using the hammer? The races should go down an other few mm using a punch until they are fully seated.

A few photos would help us diagnose what you did so we don't  fly blind.

If you can spin the race with 2 fingers like you say you would not have to of hammered it in very hard if at all.

Those hubs are machined out of a solid lump of steel and its almost impossible to damage it's bore hammering a bearing in.

If you did you would find it would be cocked in there and be as tight as a jewish man when its his shout for drinks and find the bore all scored and burred.

I wouldn't drive that out the driveway in that state until the issue is resolved.

I have a post in the workshop on wheel bearings if your not sure what your doing and haven't seen it that may help.

    Cheers.

When I answer questions like this on forums & guess I tend to think more about what I would do/want rather than probably actually answering the OP's question.

That may not be the right way to look at it but for example how many of you can draw on this kind of example from life experience?

I have walked in to buy a new car & thought I only have this budget & walked out with the GLX model instead of the GLX-R, then sometime later wished I had "found" the extra coin because now I really want the  features that the GLX-R would give you, now I am spending more money putting on the diff lockers & other features on at more cost than the upgraded features would have cost on the original GLX-R.

My point being at some point you will want more, we always do & if I could get into something that I can still fish well out of easily in the bay but be a better sea going boat then I would choose the later any day.

I would of bought a hilux and never looked back.?

  6. I would of thought any outboard mechanic with the right tooling using good quality parts at the recommended intervals could perform the service on an etec keeping the warranty valid.

After all you don't need to service your car at holden etc if that's  where you bought it new.You CAN go qualified independant mechanic that uses quality parts fitted correctly keeping any warranty intact.

As an exampld my Kia has 7yrs warranty and ive never taken it back to them since i bought it new.

I fish midweek 99.9% of the time & it is sooooo much better than trying to deal with Sydney ramp rage & the jet ski's & water skiers.

Its a great feeling sitting back, listening to the radio, catching a few fish & knowing everyone else if fighting traffic & in a hurry to get to work ?

Doing it solo is the only downside but I can deal with that!

I'll be doing it with my family so I don't have that worry.I agree about the morons you get on weekends.

  8. Pretty much any decent tyre will suffice for what you do.I ran Maxxis 751,s A/T on the ute and got 80ks out of them driving both on and off road, thru mud etc.I replaced them with 40%tread only due to age.

Im running Kumho road venture  A/T s now doing the same driving and have done 20k and am very happy with the ride, grip etc.

Both tyres towed my boat, horse floats, trailers with no issue.

I would have a budget in mind and look at different tyre reviews, then choose something from there.

    Good luck with it.

That’s awesome fab1 I can’t wait for the reports when I’m working.   I think the better fish are caught in the estuaries on the weekdays.    You can stalk Yowie too.

I was thinking if I'm going to stalk him I'll gear up in scuba and sika flex myself to his hull like a barnacle as he'll recognise my boat.I may even bring my little 10cm bream and switch them with his fish as he brings his to the boat each time to save the hacking fish populations.?

They miss out on the looks from the missus when you want to go fishing but there’s a family function or social event on. Saves a fight! Just fish on weekdays! ? Even when I have a weekend off work, I usually don’t bother going fishing - I prefer the quieter weekdays. I also tend to avoid fishing in school holidays.

Don't blame you skipping school holidays.I avoid fishing in them, public holidays,Xmas etc like the plague.

    Hey Fabian,

You are not wrong there.. its a lot quieter during the week.

Still, sometimes I think when there are fewer boats around there can be a less action.

Its a bit like a beach full of tailor fisherman is a good thing because it keeps the fish around longer.  I suspect that more bait and movement in the water when there are a few boats around can get the fish on the bite.

Anyway ... enjoy the solitude and the free run on the ramp!

    Cheers

    Jim

Lol.I don't think I'll notice the fewer fish around as I hardly am the fishing guru that catches more often than not.I enjoy just being out there and having a crack taking in the beautiful surroundings the waterways around Sydney have to offer.

According to my mechanic the double sided aren't needed, the doubles I've had in the past have not lasted to well. The connectors have been weak and the rubber ( plastic ) on the muffs have become brittle and break up. I suppose at around $15 you can't expect much.IMG_1672.thumb.JPG.412ed60270c2017c0a7a28e70be59e1a.JPG

These very simple much softer rubber type last for many years but are very hard to find for sale.

Totally agree mate. When you pull off the intake grills its only one water passage that runs up the leg.

A single flusher is plenty as long as you have a healthy impellor on your engine to suck up the water.

In my experience diverting water from one feed hose and splitting it into feeding two only reduces the water pressure not increase it.

I have the same single muff as you.

Omally did a good job though ill give him that.

    Well done mate.

  12. Well, ill be finally joining the brigade officially after next week as i have tossed in my old job and started a new job and chapter in my working life.

Im expecting fewer people on the waterways/ramps etc.

What are the other pluses that so many weekend anglers miss out on?

I use penrite in my other vehicles for ages. When I googled about penrite 2 stroke a while ago, hard to find many threads about it, main thing I came across was people using it in dirt bikes said it’s a great oil but bad odour. That was enough for me not to try it.

The marine 2 stroke might be a completely different product, wasn’t motivated enough to go further.

Fair enough,i might give it a crack and see how it fares i guess. If i don't like it ill go back to the yamalube i guess or something else.

  16. Yeah, just quietly I suspect it's a lure to keep you buying their oil.A bit like the car dealer that tells you you must get your new car serviced with them otherwise it voids your new car warranty.

I know it will run fine on any tcw3 oil I was more concerned about more noticeable fumes, fouling etc.

  17. First thing I'd do is toss that Bimini as it will be useless for what you want.It depends how handy you are how you would proceed.

Some ally tubing and fittings, marine grade vinyl a sewing machine, fasteners like rivets, press studs, eyelets and short bungee cords you'd be surprised what you can make.Again it depends on you.

I'd make a frame up from the top of your screen back out of the tubing with bracing down to the gunnels then line the roof with the vinyl with zips sown into the sides of the roof.

I'd make up matching side curtains with zips on top to zip to roof and have eyelets on the bottom of side curtains with short bungee hooks that hook to the underside of the gunnels.

Then you can have the shade, protection of just the roof or zip the sides on to the roof and attach the bungee cords to gunnels.

There's a million ideas I could come up with and hope this makes sense just for an idea.

    Cheers.

  18. Anyone have first hand experience running this oil in an old tech outboard?I've run Yamalube since new on my boat and several other brands on other engines but never this. Its just Yamalube is a pain to source.

Open to peoples experiences and opinions as very soon I'll be hitting the water again after along layoff.

    Cheers.

    They’re great pavers, very durable.

Where do you acquire all this material??? Got some good stuff at hand there Fab

From various sources. Those pavers where pulled up by people putting in an in-ground pool like mine.I got them for free and went and loaded them into the ute and brought them home with several trips. Its always good having certain things at hand like pavers, timber, steel etc as you can make plenty of things out of them. And at times you can save a fortune when they come free.

Even buying soil, compost etc all adds up if you have to buy it.

Very nice fab and well done reusing old materials.

tumblers much easier than manually turning the heap over - here’s my setup

    2277C4C9-C5FD-4499-B6B0-81FC300AE6E7.jpeg

Then you have to spend money on gym fees and I like my Popeye fore arms.In all seriousness I had tumblers before and they didn't quite cut the mustard for my needs as they don't have the capacity  for hot composting like  i do.They certainly are good for the small space gardener though that's into composting at a slower pace.

I have a "couple" of pavers like yours laying around that are going to be magically transformed into mowing strips and garden edging.
