  1. Hope you guys are having a great time on your special day with your families with a good feed and gifts thrown in.

I'm up to the usual family  bbq and got a new flat screen telly for my troubles.

Enjoy your day guys and girls that have the role of being mummy and daddy for the kids.

    Cheers.

  2. I made this bbq today with regular heatbeads. Not as good as the charcoal ones but no complaints either.

Loving my new job and all the days off for occasions like this.20180731_184931.thumb.jpg.c624c1c6d9c933de5c66ac141c3b4a1c.jpg

sorry for my ignorance but why burn wood to create the heat to make charcoal which you are then going to burn again. sounds like your doing the job twice. I do understand the flavour of charcoal is 2nd to none.

    Jim..........

The reasons i do it is to save time, storage space, weight, theres no smoke, doesn't attract things like snakes and spiders stockpiling wood, its easier to bag and pass some on to family etc.

Theres nothing wrong with wood fired bbqs as i sometimes gather and split my wood and have the bbq the same day.

In fact I split some today for the brother in laws sons birthday party tonight.

How long does it take to “cook” the wood?

I burn the 20L drum a couple hrs and the 44 gallon overnight.

  5. Good stuff mate.

I make my own hardwood charcoal too using 20litre paint tins or 44 gallon drums as i have charcoal fired bbq's all the time and use alot.

I have an open pit fire going and sit the drum/s on top and stack wood up on the outside of the drum/s too.

If i bought heat beads or lump from  places like the green warehouse I'd need shares in the place.

As for trying it out,I'd doubt you'd go back to buying beads or lump as the flavour cant be beaten in my opinion.

People buy gas bbqs probably mainly for convenience, quickness but the process of gathering the wood or charcoal, lighting it,watching it burn down etc while having a few beers enjoying the outdoors, friends, family is what makes it for me.

In Uruguay where im from and countries like Argentina,Chile etc a bbq (Fiesta)goes on for hours, many times into the late hours of the next morning or longer.

People will turn up at say 6-7pm and will still be there at 2-3pm or longer.lol.

Another thing i never forget to accompany my bbqs with  doesn't matter if its beef, chicken fish is Chimichurri sauce which is very traditional for us and goes down great.

Let me know what you think of your maiden voyage into cooking with your own homemade charcoal.

    Cheers.

  6. Broke my other remote starter switch(Ran over)and needed one asap. So like usual i dug around the shed for bits and bobs too come up with this.

They are a very handy little tool to add to the arsenal for checking compression, spark, timing etc solo without going to the front of the boat to turn the key.

I could of bought one,20180822_143316.thumb.jpg.378f9c38a4ea449f422e4a7628895d79.jpg but that's no fun.?

What you guys reckon about the whole marine park lock out?

I think we will whine and moan about it to each other in the typical laid back australian way like any other time any issues come up and do nothing about it allowing them to keep going full steam ahead.

So basically,we are wasting our time unless we band together as a whole.

    Thats my opinion.

Hey! Im currently looking at upgrading my boat to a Quintrex/ Stessco 440 Renegade and wondering what cars people use to tow these boats. I have a mazda 6 that i want to be able to tow with and wondering if anyone has similar boats they tow with family sized sedans/ hatchbacks? The trailer will be Unbraked. Any experience/ Info will be much appreciated. Thanks guys :)

Whats your unbraked towing capacity on your Mazda?

Remember pretty much anything will tow a boat like that on dry/flat roads with a sensible driver.

The boat ramp is the least of your worries really. It's the tow inbetween that/those ramps and home that can get you unstuck when towing with a less capable, lighter vehicle if you don't  drive accordingly.

The worse is probably going down a steep hill around a bend in the wet and something jumps out in front of you and you have to swerve/brake.

I tow my boat without issue both on the road and ramp with my Kia hatch doing 100km+round trips up and down big hills like Mt ousley etc.

I drive to the conditions(Theres always the brain dead on the road) leaving plenty of braking room.

At the ramp I've had no dramas but did take a set of chocks with me at first to test the waters so to speak.

Good luck with it and remember to keep your tranny out of overdrive too.

Just my opinion, towing of any boat should be an AWD minimum! Especially when travelling to different locations and ramps. Seen too many people caught out using a family sedan. Just a thought!

    Cheers scratchie!!!

I think no one should own a boat unless they have a Ford 450 dually to tow with but thats inpractical.lol.

I've also noticed that alot of guys that get into trouble on the ramp etc are lacking in brain development.?

HA ! ... knew I  should have asked....

There aren't that many moving parts to mechanical overrides - did they ever work properly? Was it serviced recently? Perhaps someone may have fitted incorrect slides...

I had a case once where a mechanic (apprentice?) fitted two piston O-ring seals and we kept wondering why that caliper always jammed until we pulled it apart.

    Best of luck.

Poor apprentices get blamed for everything.Maybe the Op can put up a few photos so your not going in blind to help him.Good advice thus far mate.

I have a half cab and the front half never gets used. When I have a bunch of people on I have to convince a couple to sit up the front on top of the cabin to level out the boat.  I like the idea of the bowrider with some kind of removable cover so you could still camp on it and still use it for protection on those windy/wavey days when there is only a couple of us out the back fishing.

I wonder how many people actually use under the cab on a half cabin or cuddy cabin?I guess they'd come in handy for storage and a kip when tired if probably a little uncomfortable in the smaller sizes.

  15. Cheers guys,

All the points you guys mentioned I thought about along with it would be easy to set and retrieve anchor, sunbath nude out the front(Forget that part) etc.Don't worry about talking about modifying them guys as that door sounds like a pita and if I get one I'll be making my own too(Probably have what I need in the shed)lol.

Sounds like they meet my requirements and when the time comes my choice more than likely will be a bowrider or bigger runabout like the coast runners from Quinny or the Stacer variants.

    Cheers.
