  1. No not recently but might try when mates bigger boat good to go. Fished JB for hairies before but not caught one yet. Bit like tuna for me, just can't catch one. Mike
  2. Well done mate but be careful of the bite. I had a 95 cm jewie bite me on the hand and it turned purple and got infected. Pay back can be painful. Mike
  3. They are definately around. A few years ago i caught one about 70cm in MH. mike
  4. Opps self edited sent PM instead Mike
  5. WOW that is a beauty of a hairy and from that area it is pretty unusual so the capture is pretty special. Yeah Pete has a good tarp system for his boat, nice and snug. Mike
  6. Pete, As usual a nice bag. Size range seems consistent with quite a few spots ATM. The bigger models appear to be very late or in low numbers this year. I am doing a landbased squid session tonight to stock up. The barometric pressure is through the roof ATM and the run up to the full moon looks like a very real monster jew proposition. Mate it looked like a cold night and at 50 those long jewie sessions this time of year are hard work. PS i am talking about myself, but you just joined club 50 as well. Mike
  7. Yeah similar sized ones in Middle Harbour up to 75cm. Haven't caught a bigger one there for awhile but haven't really fished much lately. Mike
  8. Yeah a lot can go wrong with the bigger models.Glad to hear they are turning up and next week i will be getting amongst them in MH. If you see me out there say G'day, i am in a 4.2m estuary angler (quinnie)with a yammie on the back. mike
  9. Mate I reckon MH this season has been pretty average due to water quality. This time of year there should be a lot more reports of big Jews. We have caught a few around that general area awhile ago but none of any real size. Mainly ones in the 50 - 70cm range. I plan on trying that area with the upcoming new moon. Mike
  10. Hi Mate, I have a 420 with a 40hp yammie. I recomend going a 40 and not the 30hp. They are good boats in that they are easy to use and move etc. The quinnies are overpriced in my opinion and after having 2 i will move on to something else next time. For instance mine is a 2005 with sealink trailer, 40hp 2 stroke yammie, live bait tank, downrigger, lowrance sounder, radio, bilge, 240v socket, glovebox x2, heaps of rod holders etc. Decked out fully and when i sell her soon i will only be asking about 9K.I will be selling only to upsize so can go offshore. Mike
  11. We have been over taken by bugs this season at our place due to all the rain. We have been over run by packs of possums, bandicoots, spiders, rabbits and bush turkeys. But the worst is bugs. Both my wife and I got smashed by ticks with each of us getting at least 100 bites. All the tick poison has both of us still suffering after almost 6 weeks. A guy I spoke to about it showed me a spider bite he got recently and he had a purple wound on his leg about 50cm diameter. I am glad you didn't get bitten. Mike
  12. That's pretty cool mate - well done. Mike
  13. WOW, that's big. Thanks for the info, and I can't wait to see one like that one day . It never ceases to amaze me what you can come across in the ocean. Mike
  14. Mate if there is salmon then there are probably sharks. My money would be on a shark for your bust off. i personally would not get in the water when salmon are feeding in numbers. Mike
  15. Dont you hate it when your fishing day goes that way. I am sure most of us can relate. Last time i went out recently i ran out of petrol at Balmoral on the way back into MH. I had to pull up my tank and position it on the bait tank in a certain precarious way to tweak the last bit of petrol. I just made it to the Marina where i was able to fill her up.Credit card - never leave home without it. Mike
  16. Sorry I missed your call Pete but I had a big weekend working. Glad you got one considering it was a full moon. I am not a big fan of full moon fishing. MH has been very hit and miss lately and even catching yakkas can be hard. Looks like this year I missed the Easter jewie boat. Cheers Mike.
  17. I got a speeding ticket in my boat and it is not connected to car license. Just paid the $70 dollar fine and that was it. I am sure that the day is coming for combined license and the other tax gouge the man seems to have forgotten is that there is no stamp duty on transferring ergo on boats. SSSHHHH. Mike
  18. When I fish for Jew and the rod loads up and or takes drag I just get stuck into it but not too hard until I get a feel for size of fish. Forget this when to strike thinking and just get into it. Mike
  19. Me too bored as ATM. 5 mins to Rosie ramp and windy. No work, so what I get paid regardless and I work from home. Watching foxtel, surfing iPad and eating chocolate. In another few hours have a few bourbons. Life can be boring but hey I am not complaining. Mike
  20. FAD 17 was dead on Friday for dollies and jackets were schooling. Mike
  21. Being a fan of shimano I am sorry to hear that but not surprised. Rather be packing a sargossa, twin power or small Stella like a 10k for kings that size. Sounds like a goog day on the water. I should have gone out today as instead sat around getting toey. Great tide and moon phase for big fish ATM. Mike
  22. Geez mate Bream don't usually get me too excited but that's a couple of top quality fish. Hey I'd like to try do a Jew session or two with you Pete on my turf or yours once they turn up over the next few months Got a couple in MH recently with a mate at night on squid. Week before full was good and next mission just after dead as can be. Speak soon. Mike
  23. It's pretty much a waste of time to fish the brown swill ATM. I did last night with no prob getting bait but squid were very hard. No predators. Mike
  24. It's a good sign to see turtles in the system. See a few in Middle Harbour occasionally as well. Mike
  25. Good effort there on the sharks. My biggest smokings have come from the beach with big sharks and always awesome to feel their power. Well done on the release as poor old sharks get flogged these days. Mind you they taste bloody good. Mike
