  1. Mate I love Fiji it's so chilled. Eat, drink, fish and time with the Mrs is well spent over there. Good to see you got amongst a few fish. Hope to be heading over there soon myself just debating with family Fiji or Thailand. Mike
  2. Couple of nice jews there Pete. I havent really fished for them lately but i am about to seriously start hitting MH over the next few months. Decided its time to get fair dimkum about one over the 10KG mark. Mike
  3. Mate its always an excellent effort to get jewies off the beach. I agree as i reckon they are one of the most beautiful looking fish you can catch. Mike
  4. Saw one Saturday and two on Sunday. Sunday he hit the lure twice for no hook up. This was out in the long reef wide aea. It was in the colder water and not that deep. Mike
  5. Great way to finish a long day. Love the shot of the marlin on top of you two and noted that self preservation kicked in and you held onto that beak. Would have made for a nasty wound if he beaked you. Mike
  6. Mate your on fire lately. That colour lure also did most of the damage on blues in Vanauta recently. Cheers Mike
  7. Geez mate glad you didn't hurt yourself or boat on the rocks. Saw a boat accident last year after the fact and it was pretty nasty. I haven't done many night missions in the last year and probably should as the usual MH spots at the moment are so dead it's not funny. Good bag of fish especially the hairy. Mike
  8. Craig, I sent him a long email. Your spot on to get people motivated. A lot of people whinge on in life about stuff and do nothing about it to make changes. Have your say people before it's too late. Mike
  9. That's a fantastic eating size mulloway there Nick. Good catch man at around 1m as a lot can go wrong with the bigger ones. You must have had visions of heartbreak and nightmares when the ferry turned up. You kept your cool and scored big time. You inspired me to get out there tomorrow for a MH morning low tide Jew at old faithful. Mike
  10. G'day, Mate you did better than us yesterday as you at least had some interest from a beakie. We were at 12 mile in the white triumph CC and all we raised was a striped tuna. Gave up and headed over to long reef and bottom bashed for a nice bag of flatties and morwong. I think wacko's advice sounded like a good alternate technique. Mike
  11. Totally agree and until the pros are banned i wont bother fishing Pittwater or HR. Mike
  12. Very nice Gary and good pics. I reckon the problem with Marlin is once you start fishing for em and catch one its all you want to fish for after that. Heading out to 12 mile in the morning to give it a go but a bit short on game gear and we all know what that means = marlin strike on an eggbeater Cheers Mike
  13. Doesn't it hurt when lures fail like that. I call it CPOS tackle and we lost a nice black marlin last year because the cheap pink skirt failed were it turns back on itself and is crimped closed. CPOS stands for Cheap Peice of S##t. Was that a good quality brand? My mates won't let me even bring em on the boat anymore. Cheers and next time I am sure you'll get it to the boat. Mike
  14. Excellent job on the emergency repairs mid fight to your tackle. Cool hand and heads needed in those situations. Not sure how I would have pulled that one off. Gotta love marlin at 12 mile. Cheers
  15. Geez that looks like an awesome trip, and how lucky are you to have a mate with a charter operation in paradise. Cant wait for the day i get into a big YFT. Just crossed off a blue marlin and wahoo but obesessed about catching and eating a YFT. Cheers mike
  16. Hey Cam, Get some squid spikes for this time of the year. Those big squid are gold. Mike
  17. Well done on your first marlin. I did the same this week and what an experience it is to catch one, feel their power and then to release such a magnificent creature. Mike
  18. Hi Dan, Very nice mixed bag. Good to see some Jews are around. Might try my spot in the next few days once I get over my Vanuatu hangover. Mike
  19. Hi all, Just got back from Vanuatu after having a massive trip with family and others ending with the best days fishing i have ever had in my life. After careful consideration, research and a bit of sneaky recon at the waterfront picked and booked a charter for 1k and six hours. Best value from any charter i have ever had as these guys delivered more than we could handle. As i was paying regardless i thought it was better to bring another 3 people along for the ride. My 15 year old daughter was keen and what a trooper she was. My nephew came as it was his birthday and a friend of his who was there as well came along. Mate we hadnt even left Port Villa and we had a marlin swimming behind the boat. The day was long and the story on recount is a blur of marlin, heat and fatigue. We had about 8 strikes from memory and each time we saw the marlin jump sometimes clear of the water several times. We managed to catch 2 and lost the biggest fish of the day after 7 or so minutes of the tiagra screaming. we never saw this one and the crew said that the big ones tended to go this way. Had him down deep and as it was end of the day and i was exhausted i just couldnt keep the pressure on him and he spat the hook. I was shaking and felt physically sick at the thought of trying to beat this fish. After that we scored a fish on the shotgun and not one of us wanted to jump on the reel after the last one so i did and luckily it was a wahoo. Great fun on 15kg mono. Caught 2 fish i havnt got before so happy to get a "blue" and a "hoo". We tagged and released one and kept one due to hook to eye and bleeding heavily. If anyone is interested in more details let me know. Mike
  20. Hi, We got sharked at night about 2 weeks ago in MH. Either that a very big tailor as it effortlessly bit through heavy mono trace. Mike
  21. It can be hectic at the Spit sometimes so instead motor over to Clontarf and go over near the pool area and look for yakkas there. Just burly up and they will come 80% of the time. Mike
  22. Hi mate, About a week ago clontarf was about 21-22+ and rising depending on tide. It's warming up fast. We will be out Saturday as well and will DR around the heads. I am in a 4.2m quinine estuary angler with blue Bimini. Mike
  23. Hi mate, On the northern beaches try Long Reef to Dee why or if you can deal with a crowd north narrabeen. I like the pole sticking out of the sand on the south side of Dee why lagoon. Just look for a gutter in that area. I caught a big Jew there a few years ago. Most times I fished there I got something. If the salmon are on the bite you can catch some nice sized sharks as well. Been totally smoked there a few times by big sharks. Cheers
  24. Hi, I fish MH a lot for the last 15 years. Never got sick from eating a fish and in terms of dioxins etc i dont worry. West of Harbour Bridge you have a good reason to be careful but MH has not had the industrial issue that west of bridge has and still does. But having said that MH does get storm water runoff. After big rains when the water goes brown i dont take fish until it starts to clear up. At my fav spot which is very near a storm water drain after big rains i have found syringes, condoms and even money floating by. Makes you want to grab the money, throw fish overboard and go home. I smoke cigarettes so dying of dioxin poisoning just doesnt seem likely. Mike
  25. Hey Bob sounds hectic on the kings. Mate would you recommend a bar crusher? I am looking at one next year. Mike
