  1. Hi, I hate the full moon period for fishing and prefer to not go out unless its offshore. Generally find places like the harbour and MH shut down a few days either side of the full. Mike
  2. First time we went to Browns we went in convoy and it was a good idea. A lot can go wrong out there so be prepared. Your boat size wise is borderline but on a good day its possible. Make sure you have enough fuel, epirb etc etc etc. Mike
  3. Mate if you want a jewie forget HR and go to syd harbor and middle harbor. Fish for them 2 hrs before and after a low or high tide. I prefer daytime low tides in the morning. Yes during the day. The next few days are good morning tides for Jews. Keep dead baits on the bottom and lives about a metre off the bottom. I have caught 3 in the last few weeks in deep water with minimul tidal flow. Fish a couple of rods with different bait. In MH I catch a lot of Jews on whole pillows with a single hook. Squid fresh dead and live of course and then any live bait caught in the area. Good luck. Anything else PM me mate. Also get some chunks of burley going on the high or low. Often when we get them they regurgitate our burley when they hit the deck. Jews are lazy and like a free feed. Sometimes they take the dead whole pillie over a live squid.
  4. Hi mate, Yeah it's still a bit early in the season for that area. It should start to fire up during late November. Mike
  5. Hi Pete, Well done on the mixed bag. I got a jew sunday on a slimie in MH. The soapies are out in force ATM. Mike
  6. That's why I don't bother fishing the Hawksbury river system any more. Last time I did over a weekend caught nothing and on the last day watched the trawlers whilst catching nothing at Juno. You only have to look at how good the harbor is now for fishing after pros kicked out. The HR and pittwater should all be pro free. Mike
  7. Hi Andrew, Yeah I now what you mean regarding results for planned and window of opportunity fishing trips. The weather has been average considering at the moment conditions are very good for jewfish captures. Our old MH spot has fired up in the last few weeks with soaps and kings. I was going to hit these nice tides ATM but got car problems until Friday arvo. Hope the coast is treating you well mate and nice jewies caught, good to see ya cracked it up there for em as well. I fully expect to read your post one day soon on a monster mulloway of at least 20kg's. You better hurry man coz I am trying to beat you to it this year. There out there. Lol Mike

    New Boat

I have a 2005 4.2 estuary angler with a 40hp yammie. Great boat with 2 people. Mine isn't the millennium hull and I can only imagine It's better. Handles most weather you will find in bays and estuaries. very easy to launch and retrieve and store. My advice is do not get one with a 30hp as it needs the 40hp. Mike
  9. Cheers mate, I have decided on a bar crusher after looking at the options. Hope for a 610 HT but if not the 575 c. Mike
  10. Great catch of reds, you'll be eating well. I reckon the bar crusher is a fish magnate too. How's she handle it out there? Mike
  11. Mate I was in a quintrex estuary angler 40 hp yammie with a blue Bimini. Mike
  12. Hi all, Spent half day on the water in perfect conditions. Fish hard to come by with a few landed but nothing special. Saw a massive salmon school with plenty of bird action. They were eating glassies so we struggled to match the hatch. Fished off north head for mowies and flathead then back into MH that was pretty dead. Did see a pod of dolphins on the east side of the spit bridge and a big seal sunny himself in the water near Beauty Point. Great day out there and glad I did a minor service on the boat the day before. It's that time of year people. Mike
  13. Nice work Jenno and always good to see the big girls swim away to play another day. Mike
  14. G'day, That is a really good sign this time of year. Same happened last year with massive schools of bonnies and salmon in Sydney Harbour. Cant wait to get out there on saturday. Well done on picking a few up as they are fussy buggers. Mike
  15. Hi mate, We will be hitting Long Reef area etc on saturday. Looking for any kings and snapper. We will just sound around looking and hit a couple of Marks we have already. Get out there early. Mike
  16. Hi mate, I have priced a 2000 blue water as well. The price was good and when compared to the a bar crusher it seems like your getting more bang for your buck. What I like about it is that it is a cross between a fishing boat and a slightly more comfortable cruiser. I really like the lockable front cabin. Whack in the tv DVD package and those nights chasing jewies are looking extremely comfy. Not getting any younger and a bit more luxury goes a long way. For the extra 10k the 2000 looked good. My next boat to explore is the Haines range then make a decision early next year. My only issue is storing a bigger boat so might have to go plate over glass. The 200 Suzuki 4stroke seems a good deal and match. Good luck and I agree with Huey. Water test has gotta be in the ocean on a day where there is some chop etc. Mike
  17. Hey bluebottle 18, option 1 is a good idea and when I have a man cave I might just build one like you suggested. For now I found one good enough for my limited space. Cheers people. Mike
  18. Hi raiders, I was wondering if anyone knew where i can buy a rod rack. I keep my gear inside now and need to get organised as they are taking over the office and a rod rack would be perfect. Details appreciated. Mike

    Jury Duty

Hi Mate, Jury duty is extremely boring - get out of it if you can. Mike
  20. Hey kelza, Thought I would add that once you start catching them take note of the details. Tide, moon phase bait used and time of day. There is a definite pattern of factors that combine to greatly increase the likelihood of catching them. For me I love the low tide especially when it occurs during early morning(yes daylight) and early evening like yesterday. Moon phase ATM is good. Stick out 3 or 4 rods with different baits and have strip baits on the bottom and lives about no more than 1 metre off the bottom. I always fish with fresh squid, pillies and have a live yakka down as a teaser. The yakkas bring em in for a look and more often than not they then take a pillie. Jewies are lazy and like an easy feed. The quest for one over 100cm is the challenge as they are a lot smarter than the soaps and they go hard and dirty, especially if structure around. They will go straight for a mooring, anchor rope etc. I have experienced that heart break many times as my Jew spot is smack bang in the middle of a place heavily dotted with moored boats in deep water. Cheers Mike
  21. Hi mate, Well done on the jewie, let the addiction begin. We got one last night in MH on the low tide. Mike
  22. Hi Dan, Hope to see how this thread pans out as I am in the same position. It's pretty confusing due to choice. One thing I do know after going to Browns and beyond a few times this year is that ride and size is very important. Your on the money in the size range. Mike
  23. Hi Jizzo, Sweet looking ride mate. I am seriously thinking of getting a 575C. I am however getting last minute nerves considering the choice of boat to get but I favor the bar crusher. Mate I would love some feedback from you once you've run her a few times in various conditions. If you ever need a deckie I would be very interested in going for a ride and a fish. I am available most mid week days with a bit of notice and live at the back of the Roseville ramp. Willing to show you my favorite jewie hole in return. Mike
  24. Well done guys. LR is my fav beach spot. Caught some big sharks there and my biggest jewie. One night we were getting salmon and the sharks were trying to take them before we could get them to the beach. Eventually got up a salmon onto the sand and slabbed him straight out. I got totally smoked but the power of the run was awesome. Just a tips guys, park your car carefully in the LR carpark. Don't know about recently but now and again Anti social antics happen as well as vandalism and theft from cars etc. Park directly under the lights in carpark or on Pittwater rd if its safe. Cheers Mike
