  1. Welcome to the Mods Team Tan , good to have you with us !! Ross
  2. It should be OK , but it is imperative that you check with Seabreeze and the BOM before you venture out. Last year was quite calm until about 4PM , when a southerly blew up , making conditions quite dangerous for small craft on the Bay . Ross
  3. The Iceburg Twins ? It wont be quite the same without you !! Maybe next year ! You have been added Skip. Ross
  4. Things are progressing well for the Back To The Bay Social, however , there are a couple of items on our shopping list that we still need . If yuo could help us in this regard it would be greatly appreciated. One of the reasons our socials go off so well is the generosity of our members , breakfast and lunch are provided FREE , but , as you can appreciate , feeding 100+ hungry raiders requires a fair bit of stuff . If you are able to help in any way , you can find the link to our shopping list HERE. You can reply in this thread . Thanks to you all , Ross
  5. As Stewy mentioned , Huetts Marine would be the place I would take it ( you also get a raider discount!). Its a bit of a drive , but well worth it . You can be confident that the work will be done properly , and you wont get ripped off. Ross
  6. Its kind of hard to get a comprehensive idea of a motors condition by just running for 3 or 4 minutes on the muffs. Ideally , as has been suggested , an on water test is the best way to determine how the boat will run when you get it ( providing of course that you arent going to be fishing in your driveway!) . Excess smoke typically has 2 causes , too much oil in the fuel , or motor running too cool ( have the thermostats been removed?). Always use the best quality oil that you can afford. Remember , oils aint oils !! Grab the leg of the outboard , and try to lift it . If the transon flexes at all , it could be a sign of transom rot. Ross
  7. No Geoff , same location as last year !! Ross
  8. You have been added Tony , I hope you will be able to make it !! Ross

  11. Here is the news you have been waiting for Raiders , the next social will be.......... The " Back To The Bay Social!"on SUNDAY , 13TH September 2009. Thats right , we are going back to Botany Bay for this one , targetting all species this time .Owing to the large number of boats that will be present , I have expanded our fishing area to include the Georges River and Cooks River , and all tributaries. The venue will be Cook Park at Sans Souci , fishing and registration will commence from 6AM ( 0600 ) and continue through until 1PM (1300) . COOK PARK You can put your boat into the water at any ramp you want to , this will help avoid congestion at any one Ramp , remember , that we will also be sharing resources with the general public !! KYEEMAGH BOAT RAMP PENRHYN RD BOAT RAMP We will have the weigh in and presentation after 1PM , a BBQ lunch will be provided . There will be more info on this as the date draws closer. If you are interested in attending , please let us know , and we will add you to the list!! As you would appreciate , feeding over 100 hungry Raiders takes a bit of organising , so we are asking if any of you are able , to donate the food and drinks we need for the day. If you are able to donate anything , please leave a post in here . We haev a shopping list , which you can look at here. Ross Ross
  12. Bummer !! Now that is going to take some cleaning up !! Ross
  13. G'day Sid , Fishraider Social days are organised at various times during the year . These days are FREE for all of our members , and include a BBQ ( also free). Usually , we will target a particular species ( ie Kingfish , Bream,Flathead trevally hairtail) depending on the time of year . There are usually prizes donated by our terrific sponsors , for largest fish , best fish caught by a junior etc. Most socials can either be fished land based , or on a boat , many boat owners make spots available on their boats for members who do not have one . Ou social days are always popular , typically , we cater for well over 100 members on the day. These events are always advertised well in advance , so that you can organise your calendar to be free !! Looking forward to seeing you at the next one !! Ross
  14. Gotta love the 'fin!! well done ! Ross
  15. Giddyupgo !! That should keep the grin on your face !! Ross
  16. If I cant catch livies , then I figure the table fish are off the bite as well...... Sometimes , if I drop the jig , and do a slow retrieve through the burley , I will get a couple. A tin of cheap cat food , cut up and thrown into the water , will often attract large schools of yakkas. Ross
  17. Try the Sabiki range of jigs , and only put the tiniest piece of bait on the hook. Ross
