  1. To you all , I hope you have a great day !! Ross
  2. There are reefs pretty close in ( say within 200M of Long Reef Beach ). They run parallel with the beach , and are pretty long . Expect to catch a few sweep and wrasse. Double check with the BOM , to ensure no major changes in weather are on the way. What can start out as a great day , can become very messy very quickly , and Long Reef is quite a distance from the ramp. Ross
  3. Fuel costs are only part of the equation . Consider the 3 year , Non Declining warranty of the Etec. Not to mention the 3 year service interval. Also , from an ecological standpoint , they are cleaner running ( no nasty clouds of 2 stroke fumes ). Any new engine would be a good investment , but I have a leaning towards the Etec ( I own one ) . Yes , they do cost more , but you get a lot of engine for your money. Call Craig at Huetts , he will definately get you the right engine for your application . Ross
  4. Sounds like the tuna have arrived !! Shame about the cut finger tough !! Great report ! Ross
  5. Members , if you have info in this regard , please PM wrxhoon , DO NOT post in this thread. Ross
  6. While you are waiting , LOOK !! There are score of good boats for sale at present , you will find the right one for you if you keep looking !! Ross
  7. Im a bit concerned about the Captains seat. How has it been attached to the boat? Check the quality and integrity of any other "modifications" that the boat may have. Definately do a water test . Good chance to have a close look at the rollers on the trailer , general condition etc . Also , how easily does it start? Run smoothly ? What condition is the propellor in? A little paint missing is OK , but check for dings or bent blades. Oil leaks. Check for any leaking oil inside and outside of the cowling. Battery / wiring. If he is going to supply a new battery OK , but check the terminal connections are clean and not corroded. Also check the hydraulic tilt and trim if fitted. Ross
  8. Nice fish Gary , not too far from one of my favourite Harbour spots !! Ross
  9. Or you could look at an Etec....... Ross
  10. Sadly , this will happen often. Commonsense would suggest that you anchor away from another persons drift ( this seems to be particularly the case when chasing jew). I could only suggest that you accept this as part of fishing . ( Yeah , it pisses me off too !) Ross Sadly , this will happen often. 11. Seriously guys , if you are going out to Browns , you really need this qualification. It is a well run course , a lot of it you will know , but there is a hell of a lot that you wont. If , heaven forbid , the worst should happen while you are out wide , this course will enable you to give direct help. Ross
  12. Add the heat to the wires , not the solder . This is called tinning . There are two ways of doing it , tin each connection , then join twist them together , then apply soldering iron to fuse the two wires together . Or , twist the bare conductors together , then heat them ( not the solder ) with the soldering iron . Touch solder to the hot wires and Voila !! One neatly soldered joint!! Dont overheat the joint , or you will melt the insulation !! Ross
  13. I have had my catch inspected a couple of times by Fisheries , but I expect that manpower / budgets have a lot to do with it . Ross
  14. A wise move tevoro . Please lets keep this on topic ! Ross
  15. I had 3 for brekky this morning !! ( Good day at Long Reef on Sunday !!) Ross
  16. Its also the shorter of the 2 North / South Runways !! (2438M) Ross
  17. Nice way to break the drought!! Very nice fin!! Ross
  18. Nearly all of my fishing is drifting , I have had great success with these hooks . Ross
  19. If you ever need a crewman Andy , give me a yell !! That Volvo should be the ducks guts , the boat is looking really good !! Ross
  20. I have been using circle hooks exclusively for the last couple of years , and love them . Flathead are particularly prey to them , they basically hook themselves ! Out of 20 fish caught in a session , 18 will be hooked in the corner of the mouth , at the jaw hinge. No worries about the fish spitting the hook . Ross
  21. Winter is Hairtail time on the Hawkesbury , try Jerusalem or Waratah Bays. Expect quite a fwe people trying for them though!! Ross
  22. Couldnt agree more with the above posts. If you arent familiar with it by day , for Gods sake dont try it at night. If you really have to get out there , please go with someone who does know it , The Bay has many traps for young players . Ross
  23. G'day Mike , As Pel said , take it nice and easy , and the Yaris will take your boat just about anywhere. I cannot recommend Huetts Marine enough , it is well worth the drive . Huey will give you the good oil ( pardon the pun ) on what ails your engine. If you are not at all mechanically minded , dont muck about with the engine. You could do long term harm . Ross
  24. Terrific lizard there Gemma , well done !! Ross
