  1. Is anyone able to provide a gps mark for the Minnamurra reef? Anyone been there lately? Heard this is the spot to go for the big kings but never been there before. Cheers.
  2. They're either there or they're not. You're doing it right, just come back another day. That's landbased for ya, can't sound them out. Nice haul.
  3. Get your mind out of the gutter mate, hahaha. Uh, glad you were satisfied fishingphase.
  4. Looks like a well planned out trip worked out great for you. Even better, you got a legal king. I didn't know there were any left there haha. I have only caught rats there for the last 5 or so outings. From my experience, the more pressure you put on kings, the more they want to go straight for the bottom and bust you off and this is a problem from the rocks. So if you have small gear, don't put a heap of pressure on them or they will just bust you off in no time, instead, take your time and play the fish. 15lb is a little light, I use 50lb braid from the kayak, no point in any more for me or I would end up in the drink myself. The Chinese bloke ain't wrong saying 80lb, you will need it for the big ones. I've seen 100cm+ kings caught from the rocks on 15lb line with the fights taking over 15mins, so sure you can have some fun. I don't remember the entrance being that deep. Maybe it is on a high tide. Right off the wall it drops to about 15m and in the middle about 20m.
  5. I fish it often from a kayak and most fish landed are in casting distance from the breakwall. Most fish at sunrise on live yakka or slimy mackerel, so best get there really early. Not sure if gates are closed at that time though. Recent catches include kings, bonnies, tailor, salmon, and last weekend I got my first samson fish there. Few weeks ago got a big hammerhead on a slimy at sunset from the boat, Easily possible landbased but use a wire trace. So to answer your question, it is fishing great at the right times of the day.
  6. Toadfish also bite your plastics in half down there... not saying that it was one that shook your rod tip though, haha!
  7. Got this last sunday at Port Kembla on a live yakka. These two species seem impossible to differentiate. Had a yellow vertical stripe and golden reflection that doesn't show in this photo.
  8. Hi George. I can't really advise you on metals since I rarely use them, but I can provide this tip... Bonito are biting big time at the moment off the rocks and in my opinion the best lure is either a squid skirt on a long trace behind a float (looks strange at first, but you cast and retrieve - think of the float as a teaser lure when trolling lures from a boat, the float creates splashes as it is retrieved and grabs attention), followed by small rapala x-rap lures. If you go to Avoca you will no doubt see people using these so just ask if you can have a closer look at their rig. Good luck.
  9. My brother in law has a one (new, bought last year) and it goes pretty fast in chop and is stable. No worries standing up fishing. I was really surprised. I think it is perfect for what you want to do. Don't know what is different in the year model though.
  10. You just pay tax on the interest you earn from it. But just be careful if you put it into a savings account, some have a max limit, e.g. 500k, if you exceed that you won't earn any interest.
  11. Great post man, awesome photos. Those are some monsters. Look forward to reading more from you.
  12. That's a very nice fish and it's a great catch considering it's not even snapper season. I'm not surprised it took the slimy on the troll though. Had them come up to the surface and take Halco lures, also live yakka on the troll going over the bommie.
  13. kelpfish or rock cale and a wirrah/old boot, both rubbish in my opinion.
  14. You could wear a new badge? http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=71678&hl=sargent By the way, I think it's spelt sergeant baker. If you do a google search on that you will get a few recipees.
  15. I've caught a lot of squid around that area, land based and boat, but I have never seen one so red?!
  16. When I fish on my mate's boat, a sergeant baker is a minus point (-1).
  17. That's a friggin awesome catch! Nice photos. One hell of a mouth on that thing. Yet to catch one myself and I'm very jealous. Well done.
  18. How big were the pike? I thought they made good kingie bait too. I didn't know they attacked live slimies since all the pike I have seen haven't been any larger than slimies. Got some big slimies down south today 40cm+, heaps.
  19. Was cleaning a king at the boat ramp today. Fish was just over 65cm. Some stranger tells me that "the legal size is now 70cm" and I am "lucky fisheries is not here". "Since when?" I asked. "For about 2 weeks" he replied. I checked the website http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fisheries/recreational/regulations/sw/sw-bag-and-size and it still says 65cm. Is he full of it or is there more up-to-date information elsewhere I can find, if so, where?
  20. Haha, I guessed who it was before I even read the post. The guy is addicted, I don't think any post goes unseen by him so I guess no post will ever be unmoderated! Congratulations Scratchie!
  21. I was told that fluorocarbon leader gets dirty easily in muddy water, because it has lots of "tiny holes" in it that accumulate dirt, and you will be worse off than if you were using just plain mono. Is this true or bull....?

    kings

Took the yak to the habour on sunday and sent down some yakka at some of the wedding cakes but no takes. Another guy went to cronulla where he got 3 kings 76cm on stick baits in the wash so maybe that is worth a shot.
  23. Thanks man, pretty much answers it. I guess I was being pedantic about using offset points for livies from what I've previously been "taught". Thanks fo the photos Mick. I was more concerned over the point of the hook being offset to the shank of the hook vs inline.
  24. Just out of curiosity, do you use the offset point or inline point? Seems like a lot of people use the offset point on livies regardless. I know how to do a sliding snell but have had problems with the line snapping due to sudden friction from the hook sliding on the line.
