Don't work Friday's huh? Well done, once again! Did you down rig the livies or did you send them down with sinkers? Maybe you should start your own charter business.
There is a boat ramp there, a small jetty and a breakwater. Looking out to the ocean there is a bommie not too far out. You can see the waves breaking over it. Never fished there land based, usually on a kayak but not recently since there has been a great white making it his home.
Nice catch. I am new to kayak fishing, I was wondering if there are any tricks to catch them off the yak or special technique? I am wondering since the yak is so quiet, could you peddle/paddle around trolling squid lures to any success?
Sweet. I've only ever caught a red morwong. I heard pig fish taste great. I caught a couple big sweep around 40cm and the tail looks similar, took them for tatse test and I sure won't be eating them again, yuck!
I've had a few Okuma reels and they have all crapped themselves. I know I won't be buying any more. Daiwa Saltist and upwards aren't bad. Curious why no Shimano reels made the list? Stradic FJ 5000 maybe?
Ended up getting the Daiwa Saltist Lever Drag 30, 2 speed ratio 6.3/3.1, 10kg drag. A little more than I was hoping to pay, oh well! Saltiga was out of my price range.
Only looking at overhead since I don't own one and would like to learn how to use it properly. Have plenty of spin gear already.
If I got a lever drag, what would you recommend? I don't want something too bulky. Scratchie already recommended the Tyrnos 50 2 Speed, but that is huge.
+1 peeled banana prawn, cut in half or two thirds on a decent hook (1/0+). Biggest I've caught was 53cm and pulled like a truck! Don't underestimate these fish, they are nothing like luderick. They will probably cut your line in the rocks if you fish too light.
Recap: primarily jigging, some bottom bashing/live baiting Need to make a decision Daiwa Saltist LW40HA, 6.4:1, 10kg drag or Daiwa Saltist LW40A, 4.9:1, 11kg drag Anyone?
I was under the impression that a fast gear ratio would be better for jigging but upon further reading (looking through older posts) it seems many prefer the 4.x ratio over 6.x for jigging. The Saltist LW comes in both 4.9 and 6.1. Is there any real advantage of a faster gear ratio?
