  1. Always wondered about the rocks near the boat ramp. Nice pig!
  2. Mate the blackies were thick at the lake nearby
  3. I had the same worry when I caught mine at port kembla break wall......though I had reason for worry as its right next to the steel works
  4. Was bass point very crowded when you were there? Thanks for the report. That will be an experience to remember.
  5. Ill kep you in mind next time I head out to the rocks at Bulli. I am no expert but I usually catch something and I am pretty damn safe when it comes to the rocks. Will PM you when I plan my next outing.
  6. Was debating to do the exact same thing tomorrow. ..now I think ill give my piging spot a go. .....
  7. I know the feeling......trembling with rage lol
  8. I used to chuck them in harbours and of rock ledges on the sand I think they are a poor choice. Depends where and what you mean by land based
  9. What about the cone traps? A mate of mine catches 20 to 30 blue swimmers in a two hour session around port kembla
  10. Impressive! You are getting the pigging down to a fine art. You fish south east syd?
  11. My issue has been right line fir tight fish. Fishing for salmon tailor or kings on 6lb line is asking for it but as you aluded to you can never pick your by catch. I think it comes to experience which is why it is always the quiet older guy who seems to bag out whilst we struggle to catch any thing using the same method. Its definitely what keeps me at it.
  12. Bring your lawn mower! there is bucket loads of the stringy stuff off woonona but it might be a bit far for you.
  13. I just wear bordies and walk out as far as I can (usually waist height and depends on conditions). In 5 mins I am dry again. Then its back to the chair, jacket on, beer in hand and the waiting begins....in my outings the waiting really never seems to stop though... I think one tip for casting is to not let go of the line to early. As odd as it feels I let go once to rod tip is straight out in front of me if not a bit lower. What happens if you let go to early is your sinker flied 60000M up in the air rather than straight out to sea. AS other mentioned, you can get them at your feet almost assuming you are in the right spot and the right conditions. Good luck with it
  14. Bulli and corrimal have hiding a few from what I heard. Good stuff on the catch
  15. Before anyone asks No I didnt keep the cale!
  16. I recently welcomed the arrival of my second son and decided 6 weeks off work was a must. The down side is that I hardly got to fish at all until last week. I hit hit the rocks at Woonona behind the pool and noticed a mountain of green weed. I was armed with bread plus my heavy gear so it was drummer time. They didn't disappoint and I got busted off every fish. I casted unweighted bread into my burly trail of break and week then whack! Felt like a snag but snags dont pulse when you fight them, None the less the fish was well and truly in his cave. An old mate who usually fishes for blackies in Bulli joined me on the rocks for little luck. We exchanged fishing spots so I will have a new place to try my luck in the next high tide. Fast forward a week (to today) and I decided to hit up the reef and rocks of Sandon point. Armed with cooked prawns and bread I was ready for the bream and drummer. After eating two thirds of my bait I decided I should throw some out to the fish. I hooked a monster of some kind. It was pulling like mad taking my left and right then I caught a look at it...it was a brown/pink colour and my thoughts are a snapper but I guess I will nenevr know. After swearing a little I cast in the same spot and get a nice 30 cm bream. Made sure I didnt play with this one. I decided to burley hard with the bread and prawn heads but I could not get the drummer to play. I cast right into their caves and ledges but nothing happened. I think I left my run too late as the tide topped and was on the way down. I got some rather hard knocks for no more hook ups except a wirrah the size of a football and my beloved rock cale. All in all it was magic being out there and good to see the water is still warm.
  17. This forum is head and shoulders above some others I am on. On other forums I am a member their is a group of "old timers" that publicly put crap on people and then they sling it in PMs. Or they plain block and ignore certain ppls posts. I think this forum is pretty damn good as are the members. I agree with the above give and take. I have no trouble telling ppl where I get my weed for blackies but thats because I never freakin catch any anyways! I share my spots and experience because others have either taken me out and shown me (yep forum members) or they have pointed stuff out. I wouldnt take it personal.
  18. What a great session thanks for posting.
  19. I tried one once. It taste like week and has a mountain of bones. I tried it when I first started out and didnt know any better. Was told by the local you could eat them and I bet he had a giggle at my expense. The bigger once give you hope that something worthwhile is on the other end.
  20. your face in that photo is priceless, looks like you had the fight of your life. You must have gained some good experience and tips if you have been targeting them for two years. I have only just started with them this year and so far I have been getting busted more often than not but that only makes it more fun. I take it you don't use a float or bobby cork?
  21. Nice one, you stuck to it and ended up with 6! That big one would have got the heart racing. I am going to give my local spot a hit this weekend. I tend to use 20 pound line for the leader and use braid from the reel...braid floats and gives the un-weighted bait a better chance of drifting out. Also try and use crab for bait. You can catch them in the rock pools on the rock ledges...I guarantee you it will vanish as soon as it hits the water, drummer love them. Regarding the line I use that jarvis walker 20 pound or any other B W special......not glamorous but it does the job for me. I tend to use larger bream hooks instead of small circle hooks.
  22. Bread and/or dough under a float (about 2 foot under). Worked for me in Macquarie riverlet and I pulled in 55 cm models As mentioned above they sometimes go into a state of ignoring food and nothing will get them..... HINT When you catch them do not keep them alive in your bucket near the shore.....cause the biggest one you caught will jump straight back out of your bucket and land back in the riverlet! Good luck
  23. I'll be trying out that way soonish. If you're keen for a session drop me a pm. Jews are something I am yet to score from the beach or anywhere fir that matter but locals say now is the time for the beaches you mentioned. They are also in the port harbour.
