  2. On the water by 12.30pm, trolled across Yarra bay to the green marker near Bear island and not a touch the wind was getting a little brisk so decided to bait fish we were going spin for flatties but the wind was to big a pain we did a couple of drifts but only got weed and not the good kind, we dropped the pick in a few spots for a mixed bag of throw backs, ended up at the end of the third runway just before dark there were a few bream about just under and just over legal size also some gurnard, all the keeper fish were caught just on dark on prawn baits.
  3. try silvers beach up to bonner point the little rock walls should be worth a go and right up at bonner point theres a sand spit that can fire on the run out
  4. saw a report about the oil spill in the gulf of mexico causing deformities in the sea life, also another about the radiation leak over in japan getting into the tuna population, while that is worse then what happened in the bay you cant be to careful.
  5. nice catch, maybe a silly question but why bleed a fish if your going to use it for bait?
  6. make sure that the hooks you are using don't have an offset that can make the bait spin
  7. its been awhile between fishing trips for me, so I was really looking forward today, we were on the water before first light and headed for the flathead grounds out in front of botany' last time out there was no drift and today was the same but we did catch 2 keepers at 37 and 39cm not great but better then a duck egg. my mate feeling a bit sea sick so we went for a troll' headed over to the light house and trolled in close catching a pike and a butchers both on CD9's trolled all the way to little bay and back I must say it was kinda disapointing was hoping there would a couple of rats as my mate has never caught a king. the wind was starting to pick up so we went over to whatts reef where we caught a couple of keeper bream 26 and 30cm and a heap of little bream and baby snapper, we went over to mol point for a look see and the bloke from the downrigger shop was there and releasing a little king. well thats about it not much but a feed.
  8. was with a mate that caught a15kg yellow fin the same area trolling for bonnies in the mid 90s so you never know, but thats fishing
  9. as a general rule when bottom bashing outside i fish 15kg braid and use lighter leader / sinker weight as required but if fishing inside i tone down too 3 or 4 kg, unless targeting kings then its 15 kg again
  10. nice feed there, used catch lots of those butter fish [as we called them] when i was a kid at evans head, many happy memories there
  11. We were on the water by 4am and went looking for yakkas and didn't get a touch till day light, over an hour manage to catch 6 yellow tail they were a bit on the large side but better than nothing also one huge pike. Went over to mol point put out a couple of livies one deep one mid water waited for about 2 hours and not a touch but on the bait fishing side there were a few flounder about caught 7 or 8 but only one of legal size, headed over to the patches for a spin with plastics had no drift and only got a fouled hooked little tarwine, thought we would try our luck outside and went to the flathead grounds out the front of botany not much drift there either, got a few little flatties and one keeper of 45cm also caught some almoster snapper of 28cm' we decide head back in and do one more drift from the cans to the third runway, hooked a good sized tailor that bit me off near the boat switched too a 3 hook rig with a pillie hook 3 more tailor but they jumped off the hooks and the tailor were well over legal size, so pulled the pin midday 8 hours on the water for 2 keepers not to flash but better than sitting a home.
  12. yeah mate thats it but if your coming from the gong maybe the hole in the wall which is at the end of hawkesbury esp or the dolans bay ramp in port hacking might suit better. http://www.sutherlandshire.nsw.gov.au/Recreation/Boat_Ramps/Hawkesbury_Park_Boat_Ramp_Pontoon_Sylvania_Waters
  13. YA GO THE KURNELL SHARKS
  14. eastern side of botany bay at the top end of silvers beach cronulla
  15. got sick of not fishing so got the family talked into a picknick over at bonner point, I haven't fished the bank in better than ten years and didn't have any expectations of catching any thing "just sick of not fishing " turned up about midday and got the family settled and went and had a look at the ramp lots of work going on plenty of parking, new lighting going in, a new dunny [not ready yet] the ramp still looks like it will be a bitch at low tide but a vast improvement on what been there in the past. I don't know if there will be cleaning tables or not or a washdown area but looking up. Grabbed a couple 3 kg outfits a bunch of lures and headed over to where there is a bit of a spit the tide was running out pretty hard I thought I would try these new beaut blades first off' span for about an hour without a touch so decide use what I know best and stuck a plastic on 100 mil suidgie riggler in silver fox first cast second lift hook up! I was so surprised you could have knocked me down with a feather, worked fish to the shore a flatty of about 40cm being a bright spark I left the tape measure at home, the fish was just lip hooked so it was an easy release took a pic with my mobile not a clue how to get it on the puter, span for a while longer then got another hit a slightly better flatty of about 45cm and as luck would have it my sister turned up with my camera so I have fishy pic to post. Had to pull the pin if I didn't come get lunch it was going in the bin but a couple of very enjoyable hours. ps the other flatty was also released

  19. as he said that was his first flatty so he is just newbe to fishing and he also agreed that he needed to be more careful with fish sizes so cut him some slack
