    Older Johnno

There a funny setup those electronic boxes. Ive got OMC workshop manuals from about 1968 up to the mid 80's at home, ill have a look tonight and see if one of the manuals has this motor in it. Ill let you know ASAP. Cheers

    Bigger Cav Plates

I would say the reason is that not all boats porpoise. It is not the fault of the motor but the fault of the boat/motor combo. Your outboard fitted to another hull probably wont porpoise therefore there is no reason to change the design. Its a common confusion that the motor is the fault, because it is the motor we modify to fix the fault. Some motor to boat combinations just seem to fight eachother. Why? who knows. The problem seems more evident in v-punts over 4 meters with decent size motors than with any other boat. Hornets have the same drama. A commen fix for Hornets is to change the height of the motor to rectify porpoising, so it does'nt surprise me that when you altered the height, you got a problem. I see Permatrim's as a last resort, and should not really be used until your sure your boat is set up right. Even then I dont like it. As far as I know they were originally designed to get a boat up on the plane quickly, good for skiers etc. Only in recent times do they seem to be used to cover up boat set up problems. Its good that your boat now rides well, so I suppose they do have a place, and im sure many people will attest to their rectifying many issues. Why did you change the motor height anyway ? was there a problem ?
  3. Theres very accessible land based spots around that bridge. Youve inspired me to check it out.
  4. Ill have a guess and say you looking at Bennets Head or Cape Hawk in Forster.

Hexam bridge as a first guess
  6. Nice duck breaker Joe - top fish Cheers
  7. Thanks Martin id appreciate it. Heres another question. Is there any negotiating tricks I should know or possible traps for a new boat buyer. I used to sell boats on consignment years ago but ive never bought one new. I know all the traps in the auto game, are there any with boats ?
  8. Martin does it list which ones, sounds good to me
  9. Lee im going to try and look for a demo thats a good idea thanks, it will be interesting too the difference in price. John, mate i looked at bow riders but like Target said you loose too much space in the back. I do like em though but you have to get a big one to compensate. Havent checked out the Webster as yet kik. I tell you what though im just happy to be looking. 1 year ago the missus wouldnt even consider it cause I kept talking about specific fishing boats. When I asked what she would get recently, it was quite interesting because once she had input it all became alot easier. Asking the wife to pick trims, colours etc and have a say in the boat type was a great comprimise and she is enjoying looking at all the options, like decorating a house !. May not be exactly what I would get on my own but its a boat nontheless and one I can fish from and also take the family out in. The missus is really exited now about getting one. Maybe a lesson there if you are in the same boat ( pardon the pun ) Comprimise and get the other half involved, everyone wins.
  10. Thanks Jethro you just saved me a trip to Toukley Ill head to Morriset instead. Cheers
  11. Thanks Pedro thats a kind offer. I may take you up on it if I go that way. Cheers
  12. Good pick up Pedro. I meant Bay Raider 455 not 475. Not Bar Raider which is 475. Only got one ankle biter at the moment under two years so I dont think I need anything bigger just yet. I will now look at min 50 hp from what your saying thanks. Dont want to be underdone. I hear you with the leccy but im just gunna have to cop that. The missus wont have a bar of a platform boat, but likes the runabout. Ill take the comprimise.
  13. Good call Jorg I like it too. In fact im going to go and see Huetts on Saturday. A mate of mine has bought two boats off them and raves about their service and the Stacer product. By the way Im a big fan of the Elite, nice one. I will though compare all boats and if they are roughly the same it will come down to service and the sales experience, and who I like dealing with the best. Cheers
  14. Yeah was thinking of you when sussing out motors, looking at Honda or E-Tec Evinrude, although a 50 Johno would do the job at the end of the day. Thanks for the info Martin. Looked at cuddys but they just dont do it for me. Getting a bit big and heavy for what I want, only need a river boat, although these boats im looking at would handle BBay on a quiet day no worries, plus I can fish the racks as well. Joe custom just sounds all too hard, only need a basic boat . I think Ally have beefed up there hulls cause the thickness is the same in the spec sheets as the rest. I saw your boat at the Roso social it does look good. Target, didnt think there was a Bluefin dealer up my way so I counted them out. Must of had my eyes shut cause theres one at Toukley. Checking it out next week. Thanks for the replies
  15. GDAY Fellas, Looking to purchase a new boat soon. Going to get something for the family that is a bit multi purpose and ive come down to a few options. What do you guys think of these boats, bad, good , faults etc. Quintrex Coast runner 460 Ally Craft Bay Raider 455 Stacer Sunmaster 460 Sea Jay Capri 475 Sea Jay Classic 475 I like all of these runabouts and they are similar in price, Quinnie probably the dearest down to Ally id say. They all look pretty much the same. Takes a 50 whatever depending on where you buy. Anyone got any thoughts ?
  16. I know you have to pay to get into the Penang Gardens but I didnt know you had to pay to fish the dam. It is not fenced off and is easily accessed at any time. At least it was when I was out there 5 months ago, maybe it has changed since then. There was always people fishing there when I went out ( only to run my dog in the park there )
  17. Well done to the winners. I was just happy to have caught a fish to enter, albiet only a barely legal one. Cheers

    Engine Tilt

Im pretty sure most power tilts have a filler plug on the pump itself, the old ones do anyway. I will say its not a job for the faint hearted try to find a manual for the correct procedure and filling technique. Once its got oil in it, it then needs to be bleed properly as well. Question is wheres your oil gone ? Why are you having to fill it ? If its leaked out it needs to be fixed first. Cheers
  19. You can use straight unleaded in the old merc no probs. The lead is essentially only used to cool the valves in a 4 stroke engine. Which is why LPG cars burn valves. Pre mixed unleaded fuel with 2 stroke oil is ample engine cylinder lubrication for an old outboard. Cheers

    Battery Chargers

Hey Jethro You probably don't have to spend a lot really, any decent quality one will do the job. I recommended Durst simply because they can take some abuse and are idiot proof which I need for my application in a large shop. I have to buy good gear for it to last, but for home use they might be a bit much. I dont really think an expensive charger will extent battery life, its simply just a better built charger with addition features which some people like. Good luck

    Poo Eaters

Thanks Swoff, I thought it might be something like that. Was going to ask at the local tackle shop but I thought they would think I was queer and send me to Fyshwick ! Cheers

    Poo Eaters

Hi all, Ive noticed a lot of you guys mention "poo eater" as a soft plastic lure type. What the hell is a poo eater ?
  23. Hi Weasel, Mate the channels uner both bridges are about 20 metres deep and the current can be very strong, use plenty of rope and a big sand anchor for your boat size if you want to hold in the channels.

    Battery Chargers

GDay Jethro, Mate if you really want a good battery charger then buy a Durst one. Check out their web site here Durst Their not cheap but they are the best and have a charger for every type of situation required. I have used their equipment for many years in a large workshop and I can vouch for their quality.
  25. Taken in Lake Macquarie today on a 3 inch grass minnow, definately not a biggun but it is legal, and my first on Ecogear placstics.
