  1. Hi All, Been fishing pretty hard the past two months trying to get my first jewie. I tried numerous nights out with no luck. Only new to Lake Macquarie so trying to figure it all out as I go along. Last week I decided to take the boat out by myself and fish a spot I've been eyeing off on Navionics. Launched the boat about 1PM to do my usual hunt for Squid. Generally I have no issues getting squid however this day I managed 0. Countless drifts and jigs for nothing. I was unable to get a good drift going which made it that much harder.I managed to pick up a good sized tailor so decided I would butterfly him. Just before sunset I decided to give up on the squid and head over to my chosen spot. It was pretty much glassed out so an easy run and anchor in 15 minutes. I had two rods with me. My 1-3KG bream & my heavy outfit. i butterflied the trailer and threw it out the back then decided to chase some bream with the smaller outfit with prawns. Half hour past low tide and well past dark one of the reels start screaming...and sure enough it was the 1-3KG with 1000 reel and half a spool of line. This fish just wanted to run. One way than another back under the boat..around this way and that. This went on for about 15 - 20 minutes until it eventually was too exhausted. That feeling when you first see leader then the fish is amazing. Especially when you see silver and not a ray or some similar. Managed to net a nice jewie at 86cm. Couple of quick photos then back into the water to swim away. Now I have an understanding on the area I need to focus on hopefully getting an upgrade won't be so hard! Cheers
  2. Hi All, Had a good day out on the water on Saturday. Went out in my mates tinnie from my local ramp Summerland Point. Launched around 10am and was out at Pulbar not long after. Just drifting for flathead with prawns. Good mixed bag. Fed all the neighbours pretty well. Might try head out again later in the week on my boat depending on weather.
  3. Not a big fan of Chinese made engines and I'd be even more concerned when it involves water! But that's my take on them. Here is a good article. I haven't read it but seems to have a lot of info. Note the article is in regards to a 4stroke but still have some relevant info https://www.australianboatmags.com.au/pdf/previews/COLUMN110_prev.pdf
  4. My mothers place backs onto Tuggerah lakes. Whatever is in there can stay in there. Not enough water movement. Probably why the snapper got so big..couldn't get out!
  5. Try and match what bait is around. If you say mullet are about then they would be gun bait for you. Plenty of ways to catch them. Youtube will help you with that. Live is best otherwise on a snell is good too.
  6. You need to put in the hours to find spots. It's not that hard though. Use navionics and find areas where it looks like a water highway. Shallow areas next to decent drop offs. Eventually you will find what works and what doesn't Right time, location, baits, what you had for dinner, who you voted for..it all adds up with chasing jews so it would seem.
  7. Jewies are definitely around in winter, Bream and flatties are about but harder to snag. I'd say their metabolism slows down when the water temp goes down.
  8. If you're in a boat and want some spots pm me
  9. Not sure about west side but Summerland Point is pretty popular. Take your own LED tube light that you can put into the water. Small jig size dont need to work it much.
  10. Thanks for all the info guys something to think about Cheers
  11. Hi All, Been pretty crook the past year so haven't been very active however finally got another boat which I'll be using to hit up Lake Mac. Only fished lake Mac once so I'm pretty keen to get to know the area so I can start chasing Jews of a night. Anyway the reason for the post is I'm after a spare wheel bracket to mount onto my trailer. I have looked at the ones at a shop but they have pretty poor reviews so hoping someone has a recommendation on brand?

try plumbers tape around your bung plugs. Works for me.
  13. Although I wouldn't eat from these type of rivers in the first place I would keep clear of the affected area until it's had a good flush. https://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2018-10-30/parramatta-river-sewage-spill-prompts-health-warning/10442906
  14. Just off the beach. I will do graves during morning sessions to try and avoid the rubbish fish. I just use the yak around bottom end lake mac... Yeah cool cool best to shoot me a message 0424 009 442
  15. Yeah I go fairly often because its close and easy to manage regardless of swell. Its alright for bread and butter but you get A LOT of rubbish fish at night. Going to focus on North Entrance at night I think. If you want to go graves just give me a yell Cheers
  16. Took the new yak out early yesterday morning for a flick around my local Chain Valley Bay. Perfect morning for it no wind so was a relaxing paddle. I was limited on my choice of lures so unfortunately so I didn't get to hook up to my target species although I managed a nice pike. The plan was to take the pike down to North Entrance last night so I gathered up some live mullet and started to make my way however was greeted with semi consistent rain so decided to call into Hargraves instead. As expected Graves only provided rubbish fish / sharks but none the less was a good night out. The pike didn't get used so once this weather clears up he will hopefully find his way to a jewie! Cheers
  17. Quick google search came up with; https://www.outdoorlife.com/articles/fishing/2010/10/fishing-fronts-how-storms-affect-fishing
  18. If there is a storm coming the fish tend to go a bit crazy and I would think the change in pressure is what tells the fish to feed.
  19. Not sure about the rocks around there but Norah Head seems popular. Bit of a mission to get to the rocks with the stairs. Shot you a PM anyway
  20. It's probably a little slow fishing though I don't fish it as much as I will be now I have a yak. From what I have read due to the low water flow it also takes longer for the water temp to rise unless we get a lot of hot days close together. If you are land based soft plastics would be your best bet in the lake just walk along the banks I'd start from Terilbah Island and work my way around. Heaps of old guys fish for black fish on the other side past the tackle shop its amazing how many they catch. Plenty of mullet school also around this area also.
  21. No worries, I have moved up north but from what I hear there's still plenty of good fishing down in that area. Good luck
  22. fish north entrance find a gutter and fish live bait or fresh. Pretty sure there is very little water flowing from the mouth
  23. Bit far for me to go for mullet. Possibly could get them at Toukley bridge I'll have to check it out. Might have to check out some of the rocks for yakkas. I have tried Norah Head for yakkas last season but didn't work out.
  24. Happy to get mullet also but they can be a little more tricky to get..at least for me they are.
  25. Hi All, I am hoping someone could point me to somewhere I have a chance to get yakkas land based. Hoping somewhere around Summerland Point / Chainvalley bay or even through to the entrance. Keen to get back onto the beaches this season but as I am new to the area and now boatless I need options for live bait! Cheers
