  1. My guess would be a kingie
  2. Hitting up lake mac for the first time. After voting of course =/
  3. I haven't done it in awhile and if I do I just get work to put me up in a hotel haha however when I have done it in one day it usually takes an hour 45 there and roughly the same back. All it takes is one accident though and you could be stuck for hours. I'm moving to Blue Haven in a month or so. The area has some bad parts however has greatly improved over the years. It's close to Lake Maq and Newcastle. Basically all the suburbs on the coast have there good parts and bad. You can usually tell whats what by driving around the streets on a Saturday night. Good luck.
  4. The rigs are alright but get tangled easy which drives me nuts. I use weetbixs for burley which works well. Around here they don't show up until there's sunlight. I use a size 1 sinker and keep dropping the line half a meter every few minutes until I find where they are sitting. Sometimes they are right under the boat and other times they are a fair way down. I only really have success using pillies for bait for them. Cheers
  5. Somewhere between here and there. You'll never really get an answer to that question however head to any beach find a gutter and you are in with a chance..
  6. I moved to Narara about a year or more ago & work in IT in North Ryde. I get the train daily from Gosford which is alright except parking is joke. Trains are pretty reliable nowadays and it's not hard to get a seat. We have two large production sites in Smithfield and Wetherill Park that I drive too now and then and it's easy enough providing you leave early. The fishing in BW is a bit of hit and miss at times and it's a real challenge for a while due to how strong the current can get. Outside the fishing is good as long as you pass the 50mtr mark otherwise it's also a hit and miss because of the trawlers. No kingies in brisbane waters however as mentioned you can access pitt water in minutes. Also have direct access to a number of FADs (One is missing at the moment though) & the hawkes I'm moving further north soon which will bring a new challenge of fishing Lake Mac. For me the positives and negatives are as follows; Positives: - Lots of fishing options, Never ending really - Fantastic beaches and rock platforms - Some great boat ramps to choose from - Cheaper then Sydney (For now) - Growing community which comes with the usual perks of transport upgrades etc - The feeling of living out of Sydney Negatives - Can be a pain to get to work - Some areas are really dodgy at times - House prices are going up (Home owners will see this as a positive) - lack of large shopping centers apart from Erina & Tuggerah.
  7. Hey Ben. if youre interested in fishing from a boat send me a PM
  8. I wish. It was on a cheapo Jarvis walker rod which was broken.
  9. BW has been really poor latelty for me too. Saturday I only ended up with 1 flattie and about 50 pinkies. my cousin was on his boat and ended up with 1 flattie and 2 crabs. Sunday I went out and it was hell on the water, The swell inside was the same outside, Nuts. Didn't catch a thing however the missus ended up catching a new rod with a sedona 2500 reel. If you are interested in trying out lake maq on the weekend give me a yell.
  10. Too bad as it was glass conditions warm blue water. We found a lot of bail balls but nothing really around them. Next time maybe
  11. Only place I can think of is the one at long jetty
  12. Yeah I was out at the fad too. We were the last boat to leave it late morning. Similar result as you
  13. Good life jackets, I think I swapped 3 of mine in early summer.
  14. Hi All, If anyone it heading out for a few hours or the day on a weekend around Lake Maq and would like company let me know! I may be moving up that way soon and would like to get to know the lake more before I move up there. Might start taking my boat up that way however would rather deckie with someone who has experience on the area first if possible PM Me. Thanks.
  15. Ahhh sounds like we didn't go deep enough we tried to keep our livies in the top part of the water. The traps were a few k's East of were the sydney north fad usually sits.
  16. Hey Scienceman, I'll remain an active member, Probably just not as active! I'll soon be building a new website for the club so that'll keep me around for a good while! I
  17. 28/2 Had the opportunity to head out to the fads on Saturday with a friend of mine who also captains the fishing clubs boat. the aim of the day was to catch my first dollie and then troll for something bigger We launched at Woy Woy at 5:30am and headed straight over to box head to pick up some livies. It was slow going until the sun came up then it was fairly easy. Picked up a dozen yakkas around the 10cm mark which I was told were perfect for dollies. Once the bait was sorted we headed straight out to terrigal fad. The conditions were so good we managed to do 25 knots the whole way. Here is a photo not far from arriving at the fad.. The fad was busy but not too busy and every boat seemed to be on however it seemed as though everyone was only catching undersize fish. We managed around 10+ dollies with only 1 being legal. All were caught on 2-4kg gear which made it very fun and tricky at times. The dollies seemed to shut down quickly so we decided to troll south. The water was a steady 25 degrees and it was the bluest water I've ever seen with very clear current lines. We had 4 rods out hoping for a marlin with no luck. My friend managed a striped tuna which will be donated to the bait fridge. Arrived at the fish traps after a slow troll however it was holding similar sized dollies as Terrigal. We called it a day around midday and took advantage of the glass conditions and were home in no time. Club boat; My first dollie which was good fight on light gear even though it was only a baby! Slippery buggers too! ---------------- 01/03 Took the old man out in my boat for a flattie session yesterday morning around brisbane waters. I was lazy and didn't prep the boat the night before so after stuffing around Sunday morning we eventually launched around 8AM. We were only using soft plastics which were getting demolished by tailor, pinkies etc. I refuse to use any lure with a tail that has a lot of action due to the bite offs. Probably went through 2 packets of different SP's! Manged a few undersize flatties and a few keepers as well which will go well with the dollie caught the day before. Looks like I might be moving to Blue Haven so Lake Maq might become my new fishing hole. Brisbane Water has been a real challenge lately so hopefully things will improve up north! Cheers
  18. Thanks, I was at terrigal fad on Saturday which only seem to house small dollies, trolled up to the fish traps for similar size fish. Tried for marlin considering the water was so warm and very very blue however no results. Picked up a nice striped tuna though which was a bit of fun.
  19. Hi All, This this FAD still missing? Cheers
  20. Will do, Hoping to hit up the fads this weekend however over the coming weekends I might try a trip up there.
  21. Holiday period is over but it's still very popular. The weather looks good on Saturday you should head outside for a bash and keep the entrance for a day where it's not so nice out there! I haven't been on a boat at the entrance, Find it hard to take my boat that far when I have a ramp 15min down the road lol! But it's pretty productive area for the club members. I just know there's a lot of shallows and the tide goes out pretty quick! I think I might take my boat up to lake maq soon
  22. You can use traps in the lakes, Entrance is good however just be wary of shallows. The Entrance has been hammered recently with holiday makers, Not sure if it affects stocks but might make it a bit annoying at the ramp etc.
  23. I haven't had much luck. Might need to give it more of a chance with a variety of baits.
  24. forget the soap just use the flathead frames you have been catching.
  25. That works too however you'll probably find more results in the lure is worked as they will smack the lure as it sits on the bottom or while sinking. But if they are feeding they'll take on just drifting past for sure
