Last week I was out with my son chasing flatty, I hooked something that took a lot of drag! Never had to chase a flatty before, haha. It ended being an eagle ray! I felt bad that I’d hooked it. Go chase the jewies mate! Much more of a reward! WA is a fishing Mecca! Surely more to chase than rays! Cheers scratchie!!!

Ok that’s fine! Not completely sure of the rules specifically targeting eagle rays. Is there not another species you could target to give you the fight you desire?

Not really many reports of squid lately! Shoal bay would be your best bet.

Plenty of kingfish at the wall this time of year but they are very very difficult to entice! Key tips if landbased- fresh squid unweighted cast into current stickbaits can work at times but no bigger than 150mm 40lb max or they won’t touch it try fishing low boat traffic periods and good luck trying to land them as you have a lot of obstacles to deal with and these aren’t school kings, they have university degrees! Well done and great report! I have to agree with rick, my kayak is far cheaper to run than the boat. It’s also a total different perspective of fishing! Good luck on your next adventure! Cheers scratchie!!!

I get 9nm too! Either way, as my boat rounds the heads, it automatically turns left

Probably too long baz! It’s usually around the 20km mark but I think it’s a bit closer this year! Maybe 16km! It would have to be a really nice day to venture that far!

Thanks jenno! It actually took 3 attempts to net it, then it jump ship 20m from shore and then we netted it again! It was a hard earned fish!

Aggressive little buggers! I sort of miss that part of the world. I lived in the blue mtns for 20 years and fished the Nepean often! Nothing better than yakking around the place! Thanks for sharing! Cheers scratchie!!!
