  1. G'day raiders, This morning I had the day off and thought I might just take the boat out and drift the bay for whatever. I told the mrs before she left for work and she said "that sounds nice, bugger it I'm coming! So we stuck to the plan and it was a beautiful day on the water. I threw sp's whilst the mrs used bait. I had a few hits and managed a couple of tailor that went back. We changed a few locations and repeated the process, when the wife says "I'm on" and proceeds to pull up a 20cm squire. What was interesting was there was a huge Flatty chasing it the whole way. I told her to leave the fish in the water while I retrieved my sp and dropped it beside her, bang I'm on! Now there was a dilemma on our hands. The mrs didn't know what to do with her fish and rod whilst trying to get me the net. So I tried to fight the fish and net it myself but failed and lost it boat side. Oh well. Change of locations again and this time first cast and I miss a good hit. The mrs says "sorry babe I'm snagged". Then the snag gain momentum and the reel was singing. After a great fight and some near misses with the net, the wife has a pb flatty on board! But to be honest, most of the day was spent soaking up the sun and just drifting around the bay with 2 lines dragging out the back! Congrats to the mrs on her PB. Thanks for reading, Cheers scratchie!!!
  2. G'day raiders, Very rarely do I have a Monday or Tuesday off from work but this coming week and next I do. So with reports of a few marlin about and the deployment of the fads a few weeks ago, I was wondering if anyone is heading offshore on those days that needs a novice decky to share expenses! I haven't bent a rod in ages and I'm hanging to hear that reel singing! So if your up this way and have a spot please send me a pm. Cheers scratchie!!!
  3. Welcome to FR! There's plenty of places in the Nelson Bay Area to take the kids fishing. The breakwall is a good start and this summer the beaches within the bay are always worth throwing a line in. The beauty with that is if you don't catch anything, you can always go for a swim! Best of luck. Cheers scratchie!!!
  4. Awesome work dave! Isn't it great to explore new surroundings! Keep the reports coming as I'm sure many raiders travel up to QLD each year! It also gives us a bit of insight to new species as well. Well done Cheers scratchie!!!
  5. Geez dave, you and the mrs love your breakwall fishing! Great report mate, hope you and your family enjoy your new surroundings. Cheers scratchie!!!
  6. I've caught flatties on poppers but that's not helping william target pelagics in pittwater! Try around the moored boats. I have heard plenty of kings come from there! Cheers scratchie!!!
  7. Opposite the log cabin! About 3 in the arvo. We used crank38 deep divers.
  8. G'day raiders, Had to travel to Sydney today to catch up with my family. I drove past the nepean river and it just so happened I had 3 rods rigged with a few deep divers. So I talked the wife into stopping for 30mins and sit and enjoy the sun while we walked the banks. Anyway, we had a couple of strikes but the youngs out fished me and they managed 1 each! I haven't fished the river in ages, so it's good to see there still about! Cheers scratchie!!!
  9. Newy is short for newcastle! Or to be novacastrian! Your equivalent of a merciesider! I think!
  10. At the moment, there are a few stripe marlin about. The dollies have not turned up yet but with the deployment of the fads and the unusual warmer water already, it is only a matter of time. There's plenty of snapper and kings at almark and your best chance of a marlin is about 10km south/east of this mark and work south to the carpark. You may also be a chance of a few jellybean YFT as well. You can catch your livies at cabbage tree island or 50m of the crack at Tomaree headland. There's plenty about. If your looking for the gps marks, I've posted them all on this site in the GPS section. Good luck and please report how you go! I can't wait to get out there myself. Cheers scratchie!!!
  11. Looking really sloppy out there now. I can't see it improving 10 fold overnight!
  12. Saturdays looking the pick up here too Noel. What a shame I have to head to Sydney for family commitments. Good luck out there champ! I hope you nail a few! Cheers scratchie!!!
  13. You will pay an excess but if you haven't claimed before they shouldn't put it up. If they do, change insurance companies!
  14. Good stuff damo! But tackling with those trout ain't going to warm you up for the marlin season! It should be a cracker this year! Although, it looks like a nice relaxing trip! Well done Cheers scratchie!!!
  15. An electric steel one and the tide was high to low!
  16. I was out on the hawkesbury one time with a fellow raider. We were chasing jew but had no luck, so we left 2 rods out, had a few more beers and went to sleep! We woke up and found our lines in a tangled mess. So we chop the lines, went to pick up the anchor and decided to chase some flatties. But as we picked up the anchor, low and behold we got our jew! Lol Cheers scratchie!!!
  17. Great work mate. A shame it wasn't a table fish. After putting the mrs off for dinner, it would have been nice to go home with something!! It's always those tight lines that make us go back for more! Well done Cheers scratchie!!!
