  4. Wow, that's huge! Biggest one I've ever seen. Definitely would mind a bit more info chappo! Cheers scratchie!!!
  5. No rules mate. All about personal experience. With snapper and kings I'll pump and wind but with flatties or bass I'll maintain pressure and reel. Always trying to feel for the fish. That's what has been successful for me! You'll work it out! Cheers scratchie!!! P.s trevally have very soft lips so pumping and winding will increase the chances of you pulling hooks!
  6. Mike, I think different methods apply to different fish. From a boat, the pump and wind technique works well as the fish is generally below the boat and you need to lift the fish through the water column. Land based IMO, is more about keeping the pressure on the fish and steering it with the rod. Sometimes I'll pump and wind and other times, I'll just keep winding in the slack but always trying to maintain pressure. I think sometimes, we panic when the fish makes a run and we try to wind or apply to much pressure hence pulling the hook. The answer, each fish is different but there's more chance of landing a fish by maintaining the correct pressure! Cheers scratchie!!!

  14. G'day raiders, This is my 4000th post on this site! I would sincerely like to thank personally Donna and Stewy for allowing me to be a part of this amazing site sometime ago now and the way they run a community forum. It is a credit to you both, the longevity and increasing membership of this site. My journey of Fishraider started when I was introduced to the site by diesel sometime ago and like many members using it for the first time, the knowledge and willingness to share information was exactly what I was looking for. I have been fishing since I was about 9yo (maybe younger) as the creeks near where I lived in Western Sydney were full of carp and eels, with many of arvos and holidays spend trying to catch them. As a teenager with a licence, we would go everywhere south/north and sleep in the car but the destination was always to go fishing somewhere! As an adult, the passion for fishing only grew more and the need of a boat and better gear was a must. Then after some years and progressively travelling more and more to the coast, the need for a "bigger boat" was there. Having been fishing the Port Stephens area for about 15years, I just had to move here! Since joining Fishraider, I've met many, many members that I now fish with regularly and I can call my mates! There are still many more I will meet in the future and I look forward to that. So in brief, it's really amazing where our passion and sport of fishing can take you! I feel that Fishraider has contributed to some positive outcomes in my life. I enjoy reading all your posts as much as I enjoy going out and creating one! Thanks for having me, Cheers scratchie!!!
  15. Nice work Trevor. I'm still yet to master the art of black fishing but every time I read a post from you and the boys, I feel I should give it a go! Well done Cheers scratchie!!!
  16. Short, sharp session! Prefect! Home before the wife even knew you were gone! Well done yowie Cheers scratchie!!!
  17. One thing that may help. Make sure your spool is full. If it is only half full, then this can reduce your distance. However, over full can have an adverse affect also. Cheers scratchie!!!
  18. Nice one! Good to see the flatties starting to chew in my area too! Sounds like a great day! Cheers scratchie!!!
