  1. Thanks for your response. A very weird capture indeed. Maybe just one of those freak of nature things. What did you do with it?
  2. I'll ask you one more time jack, is this a real capture or a photo enhance one? Scratchie mod team
  3. For the record, luderick are blackfish. Did you mean drummer? Either way, weird looking fish! Or is this one of those computer hybrid one? Any other photos of its capture?
  4. Looks like a great day to be out with the little one. As for rods with children, I have 4 kids and take them all the time. The kmart specials don't cut it at all, so when Bcf have the special with the pro series and sienna reels, I just bought 8 of them. At least there a chance of landing a fish! Your daughter looks like she had a great day out with dad! Well done Cheers scratchie!!!
  5. Mate, I normally have caught a zillion by now, yet I haven't seen any since last summer. We normally get them year round up here. Yes, the slimies and yakkas have been thick here for weeks but still no bonnies. Hence, the fishing has been poor of late. Can't wait until they start up, it means the marlin season ain't fat away! Cheers scratchie!!!
  6. Yes it is mate! But they don't always want to play ball. Not tonight anyway. After reading this post I thought I'd go target a good snapper. Zilch!!! Not even a panny. Grrrrr
  7. You only gave yourself a triple uppercut??? Must be slowing down in your old age! Lol Unlucky champ, there's nothing worse than knowing you lost a good fish to an anglers mistake. At least you got out and had a go! Cheers scratchie!!!
  8. That will be an awesome trip! Look forward to reading your report!
  9. Great report once again John and you made the newspaper! Talk about 15mins of fame. Your description of a soft plastic had me rolling on the floor laughing! "After a few fruitless minutes decided to change over to a jellyworm fished behind a drilled bullet." Great story! Cheers scratchie!!!
  10. Wow seamus! Congratulations on your member status. This is not an award that admin bestow willy nilly and is something you should be really proud of. Well done Cheers scratchie!!!
  11. To answer your question col, I don't think they have a preference other than "fresh is best". They will also take cuttlefish, yakkas, slimies, stick baits, poppers, pilchards and lures! It all depends on their appetite at the time! Cheers scratchie!!!
  12. A 3kg would be better. I caught one about two weeks ago. I have 6 in my family and once filleted there was just the right amount for us all. Cheers scratchie!!!
  13. No they didn't. They put them on ice, then when needed sliced them horizontally. They removed the barb and pinned them with an 8/0 hook through the tail.
  14. Awesome work hodgey and good to see you get a line wet! Congrats on a stonking PB there. Cheers scratchie!!! P.s don't forget cotm!
  15. Your never wrong mrs swordy! That was the most computer technical word I knew. Sounded good! Lol On reflection, that was for something else I was looking at. My bad!
  16. I agree with the sadness of this tragic event. I think it's the realisation that you are vulnerable as a human being. At 25 years young and dying playing the "gentlemans game". Wow. That's sad! Rip!
  17. All there fush are bigger! Let me tell you, it looked the goods. It provoked a bit of thought in me. I fish very similar terrain as they were fishing in. Hmmmmm!
  18. Of course you can. You can use any fish you wish too as long as it is of a legal size limit as far as I'm aware! A few people think I'm mad but I use large whiting as live bait for jewfish. Works a treat!
  19. They smashed it. (6-8kg reds) What was quiet interesting was the way prepared the bait. Basically just sliced it in half horizontally.
  20. G'day raiders, With the wind blowing hard this arvo, no chance of getting out for a fish. So I sat down to watch "big angry fish". The boys were using leatherjacket to chase snapper similar to the way I use unweighted slimey mac. I've never thought of that before, maybe a good way to get rid of those pesky things. Has anyone ever tried using them for bait before? Or is that just something you do in NZ? Cheers scratchie!!!
  21. Agh, the beauty of game fishing! I love the sound of that reel screaming, magic. I'm not sure how many rods you run but when skipping we use 3. Two with slimies and one with bonito. The bonnie is out the back and makes a bit more movement and gets them curious. Maybe worth a shot! Other things you can do are working temp breaks and current lines. Trying marking fish and dropping live baits. And for some reason, all captains love a lumo sprocket in the mix. I've never tried switch baiting, think I'll leave that to the pros! Cheers scratchie!!!
  22. Galini, I'm no expert either and far from it. But from the limited experience I've had with really experienced game fisho's, they all say the same thing....... You've gotta put in the time(hours on water) and $$$(fuel). I've been on many fruitless trips of covering 300-400 miles and then we've gone 4-4-4 before lunch. I think if your already skip baiting and using mixed technics, lures live baiting etc, there's not a whole lot more you can do that put in the time on the water. Good luck and SWROCKS is an awesome place. Cheers scratchie!!!
  23. Me either. You need adobe reader to view it.Well done Cheers scratchie!!!
  24. Your not wrong Ryder. I've never chased gars myself but after reading this thread, at least I know how to do it. Well done Adam, that is a fantastic result from start to finish! Cheers scratchie!!!
  25. Sorry to hear of your woes Ian. I guess it makes getting out on the water when you can even more enjoyable! Take care.
