  1. Hey Pete, I used sfactor and hardies matching the hatch, mate everything. This went on for 2 hours so I had plenty of time to think about it. I think this was a case where I needed some bait. It is still playing on my mind now and all bloody day! This is the first trip ever, that I haven't caught a fish and there was hundreds of the bastards at my feet! Grrrrrrrrr!
  2. Yep. Tried that luc. As I said, I really thought about what I was doing. I think in this instance, I just needed some bait!
  3. He'll get one when he mans up and gets his big A up here!
  4. I've caught them with bait, trolling lures and livies. My problem was I only took my SP's bag! I changed so many tactics and really though about what I was doing. Very very frustrating but don't worry, you'll see a kingy report shortly. I'm determined!
  5. No problem. End of the breakwall at Nelson bay marina. Now help me!!!!
  6. G'day raiders, This morning looked liked a really nice morning to go and throw some SP's and hard bodies. No wind and nice tide. I arrived at 6am with no one in sight at the end of the wall and there were fish smashing up everywhere! Anyway, I threw everything at them except for a stick of dynamite and only managed one hook up that was quickly spat back at me! It was so frustrating to cast lures into a frenzy of kings and not get a hook up. I matched the hatch, with SP's and lures, used different techniques and only managed 1 take but countless follows. Could I have done anything differently? And have many people encounted this? Mind you, landing one on my 6lb gear would have been a challenge. Cheers scratchie!!!
  7. I agree with you some what garyo! For the amount of fishing I do.....daily! And for many years, in popular tourist area and all, I have NEVER had my catch checked by fisheries! Cheers scratchie!!!
  8. I agree with Groper, you need to change your alias to the blackfish king! Well done! Cheers scratchie!!!
  9. Lol....It won't take him that long, probably by 8! I just tell my kids to remember who taught them and who takes them. So if they wanna keep coming out, behave! Lol. Mate, they are just memories that last a lifetime!
  10. I remember you telling me about these huge carp! Where are the photos mate? Cheers scratchie!!!
  11. Great to see you back on the water Mr Groper! I had a laugh when you dedicated this trip to SP's only and took a block of pillies. Lmfao I did the same thing. But great read, fish and recipe to go with it. How did the boat perform? Cheers scratchie!!!
  12. Great work champ! Looks like I've you a winning duo there! Cheers scratchie!!!
  13. Hey mate, Was at Stockton this morning about 5km down from anna bay. Had a lovely egg and bacon roll and then set out 2 rods. Forgot rod holders so my son gave in. Found a nice gutter and within 5 mins I was on, nice little tailor. Caught a couple more and dropped a sambo in the wash. The tide was 1hr on outgoing and there were plenty of gutters about. Seen a few other guys with some big sambos too! Good luck!!! Cheers scratchie!!!
  14. I always do the cooking, that way I eat what I want. Water temp...... As the warmer water pushes down from the north, with it come many pelagics and it tends to fire up the fishing. Just like with the cooler water from the south produces the yft and blue fin. When the water temp up here hits 23.5-24 all sorts of action happens. Kings, bonito, mahi mahi and of course the mighty marlin!!! So yeah, I can't wait.
  15. What an awesome experience! The food that was prepared for you looked delicious! Now be honest, what sort of a fight did those fish put up? Lol...... Great story, thanks for sharing it. Cheers scratchie!!!
  16. Hey Krause,As we know the birds are exhausted and basically die for this reason. The vet said that the re-hydrate the birds and release them after 24hrs. It was interesting to find out that they can not take flight from land. So if you do try rescuing, what you did was fine. Find a shallow non flowing water area and that will give them their best chance to rest and survive. There must be millions of them as there attrition rate is shocking! Cheers scratchie!!!
  17. Does anyone know when the migration finishes? I'm sort of over my wife having to rescue everyone of these birds she can! I know they are exhausted but so am I from all the car trips to the vet! Cheers scratchie!!!
  18. Yeah, squid is the go for bait up here. The fresher the bait, the bigger the fish. It was a shame the only thing open was the servo!
  19. Agree. But I don't mind at all. She's my lucky charm when it comes to fishing!
  20. We'll done on the trevs mate! They certainly are a great fight but have never really eaten them. However when the suggestion of a curry was made, hmmmmm never thought of using them for that. Sounds great! Cheers scratchie!!!
  21. G'day raiders, With the weather looking promising this morning and all the kids at school, I thought I'd take the mrs for leisurely drive around the islands. As we approached the heads the swell was a little up and the wind was chopping the the water. So plan A went out the window and we decided to troll over to fingal for no result except some free jumping whales off the headland. Oh what a sight they are full breaching and tail slapping. A sight I never get sick of and it put a smile on the wife's face too! After pulling up the lines, we found a nice drift on some reefs but kept getting our SP's demolished by tailor. We persisted and managed a few big slimies and one went out as bait. On the second drift, the wife's line come up tight and there's a few shakes of the rod, after a short fight up comes this nice little snapper! Great pan size and went 38cm and she was very excited to catch it on SP's. The water was still fairly cold at 20.1deg, hence the lack of pegalics about. Can't wait til this weather warms up! Cheers scratchie!!!
  22. Nah Ian, I wasn't quick enough! My two eldest joined me.
  23. Not lucky, I chose to live here. Got sick of towing the boat from the blue mtns twice a week!
  24. Mate I will be fishing Stockton in Saturday morning of the weathers good and will let you know how I go. Most reports I have are from 5km from Anna bay down to the signa wreck. They are generally the most productive areas! Cheers scratchie!!!
  25. 10mins! That's to hook boat up and all. I have the choice of 3 ramps too! But if I want to rock or beach fish, it's along 1 & 1/2 mins! Lol
