  1. It's alright Pete, I'll be giving the tips from now on! Lol. I tell you something, a yak would be a good and inexpensive alternative fishing method that you would love! You can't use bait from them (not really) and being at low level is a great way to fight the fish! Cheers scratchie!!!
  2. This was fingal bay alight yesterday! One photo is from my mates house, the others are from the gan gan lookout. What wild weather we had up here yesterday and yet I still managed a fish early morning! We had a beautiful morning followed by winds, fire, storm with lightening thunder rain and then a blackout. Global warming???? Cheers scratchie!!!
  3. Agree. And if I could work out how to upload the pictures I have on my iPhone some are amazing!
  4. Yeah, he got a nice bream and a couple of flatty. But I think my sp won the day. Would have liked to spent a bit more time in the water but with the weather the way it is up here is scary!
  5. Can u tell me have to upload cos I'm struggling too! Cheers scratchie!!! Btw..... Big fires up this way too. Salt ash and fingal bay alight.
  6. G'day raiders, After what was a disappointing trip to black head, I was in serious need to get a bent rod so I decided to head out this morning with a mate in our yaks throwing some SP's. We got to our location at tillagerry creek about 630 and launched the yaks. It was half way on the outgoing tide and I was really looking forward to trying out my new gopro! My mate was using hard bodies over the racks and I was fishing the fringes with SP's, my weapon of choice was a 3inch nuclear swimming mullet. After 3 casts, I lost 3 tails to some tailor and decided to move. I persisted with this sp for a while but no takers. Then as the tide was falling I changed to a 3inch minnow in pilchard and instant success, up came a nice 36cm flatty. I released it to fight another day. I then looked at my gopro and realised that it had run out of memory which was a shame because the next hour I was on fish after fish. (Note to self...Need a bigger memory card). The biggest one I got today was a great fight steering me around the racks and tangling me twice but with some persistence and the strength of my 8lb Fluro Carbon leader,I managed to get him in the clear and went a good 70cm. At the side of the yak, he was generous enough to hand me back my lure as I waved him goodbye. Dropped a few, released a few but kept 4 for the table, all brothers at 45cm. Great morning on the water until the wind kicked up and it was time to come home! Thanks for reading! Cheers scratchie!!!
  7. Nice work nat! Never caught an EP before. Do they fight hard? That is a cracker jewy there. It's a shame you couldn't have got your mum onto that! Cheers scratchie!!!
  8. First report, great read mate! Your wife sounds like a real trooper! Well done on the fish too. It's not the best feeling breaking a rod but if it's a kingy, well you get that sometimes! Welcome to the site! Cheers scratchie!!!
  9. It's a terrible feeling hooking one of those birds and I'm sure as regular/addicted fishos we've all done it. It is not something we intentionally do but it is a case where "shit happens". When it does happen I always try to release the bird with the least amount of damage. That is the best I can do. I feel no guilt as I have done my best. And yes they are very tough birds and will probably survive. If they continue to try and steal your bait, then as suggested move on! Just my opinion! Cheers scratchie!!!
  10. Hey mate, from what I've learnt yes they will. Just match the jig head with the lure. And try find the color they want on that day! Cheers scratchie!!!
  11. That's an awesome fish! Well done! It deserves a record! Cheers scratchie!!!
  12. Yes Krispy! Where I fish for whiting, a peeled prawn is the go and the shell and heads make for great burley. When fishing this way, I find they take the bait harder rather than just pecking at it. But as grant said, if there's nippers about, pump them out, bait up and out they go. Good luck! Cheers scratchie!!!
  13. Great report! Love the family vibe. It's always the way, you have 3 solid rods and 1 just incase rod and they always take the lesser! Well done on a great fish! Cheers scratchie!!!
  14. Great effort and write up! As for blurters, I'm with you. My best is 52cm and I thought it was a kingy the way it challenges me. They always punch above their weight! Well done! Cheers scratchie!!!
  15. Sorry about that. Forgot about the no camping bit at the moment because I normally drive the 500m to home! lol. Someone suggested mungo brush!!! That's not a bad spot on bombah broad water. The prawns are starting to run, you can fish the lake, or down at hawked nest or off the beach towards broughton island. Good luck! Cheers scratchie!!!
  16. Hi all, Found a few little fish today with the family. Was a really great day. We went back to taree st with a few prawns and watermelon on a hot day! My daughter caught the first fish a small tarwine but it really put it up the three boys! I was on next with a decent size bream and then the others followed suit. All team scratchie got something and all released. It was so hot and windy we all needed a dip so we winded the rods in and all had a quick swim! Great spot for the family and great day had by all. Cheers scratchie!!!
  17. What can you say about that haul......awesome! Cheers scratchie!!!
  18. Best place you can combine 4wd and beach fishing you can't go past Stockton beach. Cheers scratchie!!!
  19. Thanks Roberta! Don't worry, I'm all about safety! Today was blowing too hard for me to launch the yak and I just checked the weather, so it may just have to stay on top of the car. It's cool, there's plenty if spots to fish up here so I'll find something! If the weathers really really bad, I'll just have to have a few ales next to the indoor pool. Cheers scratchie!!!
  20. I'm thinking its a typo too, but I was snorkeling at fly point last week and I reckon I saw a luderick at least 55cm. Big, fat and slow and I was in a sanctuary zone! Oh, how I like to tease myself. Not to mention the bream that were that big they looked like snapper! Damn them regulations! Cheers scratchie!!!
  21. Fished the spot Roberta said in taree st today with the family but no fish. Looks like a great spot, but was there at wrong tide and wind was blowing its A off! My boys went spearing at black head beach this morning but no fish either! Hmmmm. Will try yak out tomorrow as long as the wind is down! Cheers scratchie!!!
  22. Hey mate, I'm at black head ATM for the next 3 days. I'll be trying the beaches around here, so will let you know of anything I catch. Never been here before so I'm fishing blind. See what happens! Cheers scratchie!!!
  23. Well done fellas! Your right brickman, with so many reports of marlin already, let's hope it stays that way and it's a cracker season! Better luck next time boys! Cheers scratchie!!!
  24. That UFO, as my son just put it....."is a sic photo!" Just got a gopro, can't wait to work it out and then use it. Cheers scratchie!!!
