  1. It really was a tough game. How hard did Gallen work? Glad to see the Sharks get up although I reckon if the game had been 1 minute longer it might have ended differently. I thought Smith was a gentleman in defeat and there is no doubt he is an extraordinary player himself. Next year is the year of..........(don't hate me for this) the Sea Eagles!!!!! Gee we were crook this year.
  2. Used to live there and it was a great fishing spot.
  3. Gee they are good fish. It is years since I have been blackfish fishing. Isn't it funny, I decided not to post the nick name of these fish given the negative connotations of the word.
  4. Congratulations for being able to get out with the kids. This weekend we didn't have time to think about the boat as we had so many things planned. Mind you with the wind I wouldn't have bothered.
  5. well that is different, whats next fly's eyes?
  6. Get a pet white pointer, that will keep those pesky seals away.
  7. Well I moved us out of smiths creek about 4.30pm and we have gone to a mooring near bobbin head. Can't remember the bay's name. Less wind and I caught 1 giant reddie which went about 10 cms. Put up a hell of a fight! I see there is a small window in the wind tomorrow morning about 0630 so we will go in and forget the fishing we didn't do. Hope every one had better luck than we did.
  8. Well we got on the boat about 5 pm yesterday and as it was getting dark we headed over to smiths creek. We read it was going to be windy today and realised we wouldn't be able to get out of the berth without hitting a few other boats and that didn't seem like a very nice thing to do to our neighbours. We woke up this morning to a wind that has gotten stronger as the day progresses, if it gets any windier they will name it! So far we haven't wet a line, can't launch the dinghy and I can't see the sense in launching kayaks as we won't be able to paddle against the wind. The forecast says it will start to reduce this afternoon and if that occurs we hope to catch some bream and flatheads. I did notice some very large garfish last night in our underwater lights and we will have a go at them tonight. Just watched a smaller Riviera try to pick up a buoy where we are, he gave up and moved on, too hard to keep the boat on line. Sigh.
  9. There are still Jewies around but it is a bit hard to compare years to each other because there are factors other than trawlers that affect the catch. Still it is an interesting hypothesis that you raise.
  10. Plenty of salmon around the basin late afternoon into evening.
  11. one can't argue with success. Good work.
  12. Wonder what the insurance company does with such a new car that is written by immersion in salt water?
  13. Thanks for the ID. And thanks to Donna for helping me post it. It is the first time I have ever seen one of them, it really was very cute and happy to be returned to the deep blue.
  14. Wish I could help you wth this. All I know is if the wind is low I am fine by myself but if it is blowing I need my wife's help or I don't try because who wants to pay for unnecessary repair bills? We are in a berth rather than a trailer so it is not really a fair comparison.
  15. The reef travels out about 100 metres. We went past there this morning about 0700 and there was only 1 boat there. In summer there can be dozens of boats there and it can be difficult to find a place to anchor. And the advice re the tide is accurate but it doesn't mention the fact you have swell coming in all the time and this is interspersed with the wash from big boats going past. We always go down to idle speed when going past there.
  16. We motored over to the basin Friday and arrived just as the sun was setting. The idea was to drift for flathead on Saturday and have a go at the Salmon late in the afternoon. We launched the dinghy Saturday morning and pushed off about 10am. The wind was pretty strong and we were drifting in excess of the speed limit! I tried to get us out of the wind but I just couldn't find shelter. By 11 I figured if the wind got any stronger they would give it a name so back to the warm boat we went. The rest of the day was pretty much the same then as dusk approached it started to drop and Jeremy started to catch rat salmon 35 to 40cms. As fast as I baited his hook he would catch another. We called it a night about 8 and slept and dreamed of catching 1metre Kings this summer. Bring on the warm weather I say.
  17. Sam, we fished out of the basin from our mooring and our system is to leave a full pilchard out on a treble about mid water which is 5 metres there and we have it on a light sinker. We caught zilch during the day but as night hit we were catching rat salmon hand over fist. All circa 40cms and a couple smaller. The first fish Jeremy caught was huge and blow me down he had it at the boarding platform and I could not get the stupid landing net out from under deck, it was under the hose and a bunch of other stuff plus it had got caught up on something, by the time I finally got it out the fish had gotten off. He is still yelling at me tonight. We kept a couple of the salmon because Mimi knows how to cook them (she is from Hong Kong) and the rest were released. Jeremy also caught the weirdest little squid like thing in a bucket off the back. We took a pic of it and I am going to see if I can find it on google.
  18. Good work Sam, we also have given up for this year. We will target salmon this weekend out of Pittwater. Mind you there seems to be a bit of interference from the weather gods. Seabreeze shows a bit of a northerly for tomorrow and Saturday. Curiously, the weather app on the phone shows no rain but the Fox weather channel shows rain all day Saturday. Guess we will get out there and find out for ourselves.
  19. good work and 55k is pretty fast. What you got on the back?
  20. Don't let anyone tell you it is hot out here tonight. Brrrr Thanks Jeff. Will post how we go
  21. Well, we arrived at JB about 1.30pm and it was a bit windy. We anchored, had a late lunch followed by me having a sleep and the lines went in about 4pm. We got taken a couple of times then we hooked and landed a 37cm flathead. About 20 minutes later Jeremy hooked a hairy and got him to the back of the boat and off he got. No big deal as it would have been less than a metre. Lines back out and nothing for the past hour.the barbecue is on and the bait is out so we have high hopes for the evening. Last night fishing for hairies, next week to the basin and salmon is the go. Enjoy your night.
