    Motorbikes

Jim, I had a similar occurrence last year. I was riding up the old pacific highway from the central coast to Sydney and I was passed by a couple of young guys on sports bikes. For some stupid reason I decided to show them that my FJR could out accelerate them and it did but lo and behold a tight corner was looming and I was well into 3 figure territory. I hit the brakes for all I was worth and managed to get around. The sports bikes left me in their rear view vision mirrors. I scared the you know what out of myself. It was weird really because I usually just potter around. wretched motorbikes do that to you.
  2. That is seriously scary. I feel for the guys in the boat but there is a big lesson to be learned for everyone from that video.
  3. What a great day's fishing. I love catching and eating flattys although I have always let the big fellows go back home to fight another day just like you.
  4. That is a very good fish. What bait did you use?
  5. I am so proud to be 1 of the 27,000 and will support the other 26,999!
  6. Just read that a bloke called Connor McGregor has challenged Folyd Mayweather to a fight. The bloke has never fought in boxing and he has challenged a very talented boxer. I wish him luck but wouldn't bet on him winning. I know someone who sparred with Mayweather years ago and he tells me he is very fast and accurate. What do you think?

    Hairtail?

Did I read somewhere that there is a Hairtail social on again this year or was it wishful thinking? Hope so as I love freezing to death trying to catch the ugliest critters in the ocean. anyone else interested? I reckon if enough of us say yes we can pressure Donna and Stewie into putting it on.
  8. Donna, it is interesting as the Fishraider analytics spread is pretty similar to ours with IPhones being over represented.

    Motorbikes

Does anyone here ride a motorbike? i have been a bike fanatic for years and would rather go for a ride on my bike than drive the latest, hottest supercar. There is nothing like being on a winding road as you exit the corner, laying right over, you wind on the throttle and immediately feel the power of the engine driving you on and upright to the next corner. I ride a 2014 Yamaha FJR1300 and had a 2007 BMW K1200GT for 7 years before that and i cant remember what order all the others were owned in. How about those that ride share some of their interesting stories for the non-riders to enjoy. Keep the shiny side up.
  10. Years ago i was told something by someone who is a well known self made Australian billionaire i used to do work for. He said "if something costs nothing then it has no value to the customer." Those that have attacked the scheme to save Fishraider see no value as it has historically cost them nothing. How can someone reject a proposition when they have no idea of the detail? It is a bit like my lovely wife when i say "hey Mimi can i...." and she immediately says "NO" without hearing what i was going to say (mind you i do have history). I say to you all, as a mature (read old) guy, collect all the facts as they become available then weigh up the cost versus the value. If the value is higher than the cost then the decision to pay will be easy. If you do not see the value then remain a non paying member. Donna and Stewie are giving us all the option as i understand it and when they say a veryyyyyyy modest charge you just know it is not going to be like registering your boat or buying a new reel. Looking forward to the next year as part of a thriving community called Fishraider.

    Plan C

    Great result.
  12. It is fantastic news. I had never thought about how the bills get paid on Fishraider for Internet hosting, web site development and all the other costs such a site incurs. I wonder if anyone has thought about Donna and Stewie working from 6 to 12 hours a day on the site moderating, fixing problems etc. out of the love of Fishraider and us, it's members. I for one would pay to stay in the fishraider group and benefit from whatever the new changes bring with them. I belong to the Ulysses club and pay $100 each 3 years and that provides nothing like the enjoyment or belonging like Fishraider does. I take my hat off to both these guys and the moderators who work so tirelessly to keep this site decent. It is a site I happily allow my 13 year old on without having to worry that some intellectually challenged person is going to sprout filth and garbage in type.
  13. Jeff that is staggering. I lived there from circa 1973 to 1983 or thereabouts. Lived in Muru Ave, the street next to the nursery on Hawkesbury Road. When I lived there we were the second house to be built. Now i believe it is all built out. It was a great place to live and bring up kids but i formed the conclusion after 10 years that if you lived in the mountains you needed to work in the mountains. The trip to Sydney just became too wearing day after day.
  14. 40 years ago I lived in winmalee and I used to go fishing down at the bridge. We used to catch some great perch down there. Mind you that was then and I am sure it has all changed by now. Used to catch a lot of yabbies around the creeks at winmalee too. Bit of cotton with meat tied to it. So much fun but they did stink when you cooked them. Great memories.
  15. Fishraider will survive and go from strength to strength. I can see it becoming global with 100,000 members. To those that can't see that enjoy your journey.
  16. It really is a sad announcement. I have enjoyed meeting everyone I have met and it is a testimony to Stewey and Donna and all the Mods that everyone in here is nice. I will think about Fishraider over the next month and who knows where my thoughts will take me.
  17. if you are not sure if it is safe then don't go. There will be plenty of other day you can go fishing.
  18. all roads lead to Fishraider!!!

    Time o move on

Thanks guys. From where I sit it made sense. A boat like Eeyore costs circa $60k a year in berthing, anti fouling, servicing, maintenance and finally fuel. If you are not using it often stuff goes wrong as it is just sitting in a corrosive environment. I am sure we will be back on the water in something before the next Hairtail comp and HBA will still remain involved with Fishraider. Now go and catch some fish!! PS I think we have some other competition for a Fitbit. Will find out off our marketing team and post it here, would be good if another raider won again. HB

    Time o move on

Well after agonising for the past year we decided it was time to sell the boat. With our son having sport that is mandatory on Saturdays we simply don't have the time to use the thing any more. So Eeyore will be paid for in the morning and we will be boat less. We will stay in touch here and who knows, we could pop up in a dedicated fishing boat such as a Signature 702L any time. I had one of these years ago and liked it. stay safe and I look forward to reading of everyone's success over the summer months.
