    Berley

I have a berley bucket which i put pilchards, pellets and a splash of tuna oil in, mush it up, put two heavy ass sinkers in it then drop it to the bottom out the back of the boat off a reel with 30lb line, then i fish the bottom, never fails to bring me fish! Cheers, Mark
  3. That's extremely crafty Geoff, alot of thought went into it. I have a half cabin and what i've done is as followed. In front of the u-bed as you walk into the cabin (where you stand and steer), from one side of the boat to the other i've built hard wood storage. One half (or just over) of it is lowered to allow for easy access to the cabin, it's used for life-jacket storage, plus it's a good level to sit on while fishing. The other half i've raised about 50cm and installes a 20L plastic box live bait tank. Drilled a hole underneath where i've connected a hose to drain it and ran the hose out through the side and down to the back of the boat. As it sits high, drainage is no problem as the water is running on a down hill slope. The water input runs from the back of the boat (Bilge pump) with a two way on off switch for either a deck wash or the live bait tank. I've connected a hose from near the top of the bait tank drilled a hole in the side of the boat and ran it out the side to stop the Live bait tank from over flowing keeping the water running constantly. I have also installed a detachable metal basket that hooks inside the live bait tank to put other baits such as prawns, squid etc, keeping them out of the sun. This gives me alot more storage, which we all know is priceless in a boat, extra sitting room and good bait options. Will post photo's tonight. Cheers, Mark
  4. Love a good fishing story. You must have been gob-smacked! Not surprised though, plenty of Bull Shark sightings in Hen and Chicken Bay not even 500m away from where you were. Cheers, Mark

    Flathead

I caught a nice lizard up in Jerusalim Bay a few weeks ago and hearing the thumb on the bottom lip method is the way to go i went for it and the clamped down on my thumb and didn't let go. Didn't exactly hurt but it came as a hell of a shock at the time! I now go for the gloves and grab them under the belly with my thumb on the back of the neck. Cheers, Mark
  8. to the site mate. Good efffort on a terrible day. I got to Clifton in my boat at about 7am and it was practically un-fishable with that southerly. At one stage my outboard stalled and i was drifting towards the Naval pilons at about 8 knots but luckily it kicked in. Congrats'. Cheers, Mark
  9. Nice table fish there mate, sounds like a fun couple of days, congrats'. Cheers, Mark
  10. Sydney 1.Flathead 2.Whiting 3.Snapper/Leather Jacket (dead heat) Fave' in the whole country has to be the mighty RED EMPEROR! Cheers, Mark
  11. Hi Raiders. Well i'll be preying you guy's have better weather for the Kingy Social next weekend than we had yesterday. I can't attend because i have a work function to go to so good luck to all. Got out on the water about 7am and the southerly was causing absolute havoc with the boat, but we proceded anyway. Tried a couple spots for livies but did it tough coming up empty handed. Headed to the wedding cake to try for some Yakka's. Came around full turn to pull into position and anchor when this boat comes flying in full speed and just drops it straight into my spot and starts hurling lures at the Cake. Suddenly a handful of boats came from nowhere so we moved on. Had some frozen squid left over from the last trip so we cut some big strips and hooked them up and bounced around off South Head for a bit for one just legal Kingie which went back to fight another day (no pics sorry) The rest of the day just didn't pan out, the weather was a nightmare, one of the worst day's on the water i've had to endure! Stopped by Clifton Gardens on the way back to use up the rest of our live nippers for for a 40cm Flattie and a large Flounder which covered dinner at least. Once again good luck for the social and hope you all catch plenty of fish, just leave some for me to catch on the Aus' day long weekend! Cheers, Mark

    Flathead Pasta

Sounds awesome. I'll go with the Gnocci! Mark
  13. Stan. It depends which direction you come from and how much you like to drive. I come from Parramatta and i go Victoria Rd to Epping Rd and put it in at Northbridge. It's got a 2 car space ramp and a launching pontoon. A 5 minute boat ride and your at the Spit, no more than 10mins from the ramp your at the Heads. Cheers, Mark
  14. Wow, that is BS mate. New location for the next trip? Cheers, Mark
  15. Mate a Yakka is a Yellow Tail (small bait fish). Burley up with bread, a small hook with a small (and i mean small) piece of Pilchard or prawn on it and you should be on your way. Cheers, Mark
  16. Nice Sydney Harbour Jew mate, congrats'. Cheers, Mark
  17. I'm jealous anyway. Nice flattie. Hope the water temp get's up for the weekend. Cheers, Mark
  18. Yep, they do the trick for me as well, as long as you don't hook yourself, those hooks are sharp as! Mark
  19. Moz. Like Mondo said, there's nothing around at the moment with the cold water. I fished Dee Why on Saturday for a couple of Tailor and a heap of baby Salmon which became a real pain. They were hard to get away from as well. Most Northern Beaches fish well for Bream and Whiting and even the odd Jew and it will only get better in the coming weeks. Good luck. Mark
  20. Cheers, i will definately give that a go. Your right too, they certainly do put up a good fight for such a little critter. Mark
  21. Hey guy's. Just got back from a trip down Narooma and was curious to know if there are any grounds where Slimies frequent in Sydney Harbour or up Barrenjoey way? Loads of them down south and the Kings couldn't get enough of them. As far as i've heard they're more common in Southern waters than up this way but i'm not 100% sure. Cheers, Mark
  22. Why don't you just keep the squid for the barbeque, i've got a double ended tree stump saw you can use to cut him up Cheers, Mark
  23. Great stuff! I've even heard reports of Slimie Mackeral off Clifton Gardens at the moment, don't know if it's true or not.
