Nice report, Bob!
THAT ALBINO CRAY IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!
At first, I thought that it might be going through a moult, but it certainly appears pure white and shark hunter says he's caught it before!
I'm sure that fisheries, museums and aquariums would be verrrry interested in it - it's probably worth a few bucks too! It's the only case of albinism in Murray Crayfish that I can come across - a historical catch!
One of the most interesting catches I've seen.
Flattieman.
( shark hunter ) has still photos of this cray from the previous years and the reason we know its the same cray as one of its main claw is stumped and is the same in all the photos bit hard to see in the one i have posted

Hi just a quick report
I finally made it to the bidgee
to some fishing with (shark hunter)
Left Campbelltown 6pm Tuesday and arrived on togg at 12.30am the trip was only a short planned one.2 days to be exact
Day 1 woke to find that the river had no water in it
so cod and yellow belly fishing where out
So plan 2 come into play and that was crayfishing, first thing was to get some fresh bait this was also a bit hard to come by which resulted in some scrub bashing on foot till we managed to find some pray that
Took us for a bit of a hike threw the scrub.
Now that bait was gather it was time to bait up the nets but time had gotten away and it was late in the afternoon
So first day’s craying was short and not real fruit full but did manage to get a feed.
Day 2 was a little better with a few good crays caught but a lot returned as they where females.
But here is a strange twist to the whole adventure there is this one cray that was caught and it is pure white and for any one that has cray fished knows like this is one in a million.
But the best part about this is that this same cray has been caught over the past 3 years now buy (shark hunter) hows that for luck
Buy the way as the previous 2 years it was happy snapped and released.
But all in all had great time just ashamed it could not have been longer
Cheers
Bob
p/s this is not a photo error this thing is white

Sounds like your boat would be fine for gettin out to the shelf or even browns,as long as your motor is reliable, serviced and maintained, you have a working 27meg radio, epirb, life jackets etc, sufficient fuel say at least 80lt minimum to 100lt for browns and back to be on the safe side.Pick the days you decide to head out and knowing weather forecast prior is important, also if you decide to go get on the water early and make the run out there while the conditions are calmer and at there best as it cuts down on running time and fuel.
My boat is a 5.5m stessl bluewater with a 115suzuki 4stroke and regularly make the run out to browns, the far fad and southern canyons from botany without any problems and average 60lt of fuel, the most 80 litres for 10hours trolling all day non stop. The shelf takes 25min from botany heads in good conditions, the far fad is 40min while browns takes me around 1hr to cruise out there. As i mentioned your safety comes first that far out, pick the days if your not sure dont go a better day will always come, and something else i like to do if i go out, is together with mates or people u know in another boat or even two it does 3 things ;its safer;the
more company makes it more fun;and it helps in finding fish easier as you can spread out and use radios to communicate between yourselfs.
goodluck and take care,steve
top reply there steve i could not have sumed it up any better.

Glad I didn't waste my time! Unlucky fellas.
you may think we were unlucky
but really we were lucky, even with no fish the weather was just so good
and we were out there enjoying ourself.
thank good that browns is a distance of shore as the
does not like to go that far
and hates trolling.
so i belive that i was the luckiest bloke on the week end
thank god for fishing
cheers
bob
p/s i would do it all again even if the reports where negative as i have always looked at fishing as my escape and the fish are only a bonus

Hi fellow raiders
Well after putting a post in desperate and boat less (spare spot) and no takers it was going to be a solo to browns.
Saturday started at 2.30am arrived at b/b ramp approx 5am. Where I see netic and friends having brekkie (I think it was him) boat on the water by 5.30 and head for the live bait grounds.
Half way to moll point I reflect back to my last few attempts of fishing for live bait and that was hours wasted for zip. So decide to head for brown's with bait I had and my arsenal of lures.
The conditions that I was presented with at the heads were just unbelievable so decide to take advantage of the great condition and throttle up and headed for mountain.
I maintain a good 45km all the way except for the last 2 to 3 clicks as it started to cop at this point so back of to about 30km arrived on the mountain approx 6.45 to see that is was starting to become a car park.
So out go some lures at head east of browns, as there did not seam to be much happening, trolled approx 10k’s east of browns for zip slow u-turn completed and back to browns still trolling hung around the mountain for a while but zip.
But to cut rest of the story short the day finished as
Trolled from browns to wide fad. Fish the fad for zip and mind you it was a car park and some diver creating havoc for us boaties
Trolled from wide fad to close fad. Fished the fad for zip only one hook up but hook pulls, and only one other boat
Trolled from close fad to Sydney south head 1 slime
Trolled from Sydney south head to Botany Bay heads (in hope of a king or 2) zip
Total distance covered 157km’s and total catch 1 slime
B/b heads do one drift to see if I would get some table fish but only 1 poor man’s lobster
But all in all a great day on the water arrive b/b ramp 4.15
He is a picture I took about 10 clicks of the mountain it does not get any better than this
And here is one of a pod of dolphins that keep me amused for a brief 5 mins this was taken about 3 clicks heading back in from browns.
Photo not the best as was solo and trying to drive boat and take photo, but if you look you can see them in the distance and one under the water just in font of the boat.
Cheers

I can say is your grand dad is right
they are good eating and the part about the rays and shovle nose would make sence as they are both rays.
But i also think that your grand dad is throwing the good part away by not eating the fillets

Hi fellow raiders
This is a bit of a late report but its here now
Day starts as usual 3am Campbelltown heading for port Kembla
Arrive at port Kembla approx 4.15am but yet still to get ice, fuel and bait find out there is no bait shop so head down to Windang. Now that all that is taken care off back to ramp at port Kembla arrive 6am.
As time is getting on am in hurry to get all the goodies into the boat so can hit the water, on the water by 6.30 am.
Headed out the break wall and could not believe the milk pond that I was presented with. It was at this point when I could not believe the day was looking so good as I have not seen these conditions for such a long time.
Head straight for NE corner of pig and Sow Island where I was told to go for snapper did about 8 drifts
Off the NE corner for only a few reef fish but they were fish. This took up about 5 hours.
So as not much really good happing I ring (white caps) to see if he had any GPS marks for this area and he gave me the marks for the wave boy. So off to the wave boy as the condition were so good.
Arrive at the wave boy to find nothing on the sounder and the current running like a bull out of a gate
Try a few drifts but for zip, this was properly because the current was running so hard and we could not hold bottom.
Troll back to pig and sow for a few drifts but our luck had run out, the weather had changed and the wind was starting to come up.
Approx 1.30pm and the wind is now really picked so head into toothbrush to try and seek some shelter but this was not to be. So at this point was going to call it a day but the partner was not happy so stopped to do a drift between toothbrush and the entrance to the boat ramp, by this time the wind is now hitting 30 plus (this is by the coast guard radio report)
The drift was so quick that it did not take long to go from the ports entrance to the other end of the beach (not sure of name),
But to our amazement we started to catch some snapper at first there were a few throwbacks but then on the second, third, fourth and fifth drift we started to get keepers.
Not huge but keepers.
By the time we had done the drifts across it was coming onto dark.
So time to head in on the way back we were just about at the entrance when we see shit loads of fish on the sounder and my partner wants to have another drop I explain to her that it is getting dark and we should head in.
But this was not to be so she wanted another drop and said only for five mins but I tried to explain that in this wind the five Min drift would take us 15 mins to get back to the same spot in this wind.
But you guessed it she won. 5 drift 15 back zip
Arrived at ramp approx 6.30pm for a total of 19 fish and 1 cuttle fish, but all in all a good day
Cheers
Bob
P/s and the cuttle fis and shark ( ray ) was yum
her are some more photo's

did you bleed them before you put them in the kill tank?
No.
As I did not think it would affect the fish
Does this really make a difference to the firmness of the meat?
I can tell you that I tried to fillet then but the meat was just to soft
here are the dollies i am talking about not huge

Recently I caught 3 dolphin fish, which were caught early in the day and were put in the kill tank with ice and seawater.
I spent the rest of the day fishing and arrived home approx 7pm so this meant that the fish where in the kill tank for approx 8 hours.
The water was still quite cold when I removed them from the tank. But when the fish were cleaned I found that the meat to be very soft, mushie.
I was wondering if this is normal or was there something I did not do right in handling the fish in the first place
Cheers

Well I can say that I have caught a few shovel nose sharks ( ray ) and have released them till the other day down in port Kembla when I had the partner in the boat and we caught one which I was going to release but she said no.
The fish was taken home and cleaned which mind you that took some work. It was then cut into short pieces
And marinaded in some stuff which I can not tell you. This was left for approx 4 hours in the fridge.
It was then crumbed and deep-fried.
And believe me when I tell you I am not a great fish eater but it was very very good so I would recommend.that you try it.
cheers
