  1. Those damn frigates are friggin frigs! They are the biggest teasers in the world. I've had them chase my metal lure only to swim off at my feet. They've taken my pillie bait and swam off with it but never swallowed it. They bite my plastics leaving teeth marks. God i hate them! But they are so spectacular to watch, they look like darting footballs in the water BTW when you catch Watsons Leaping Bonito, usually their bigger cousins are not too far.
  2. would you be able test what your saltist is pulling? in your free time of course. i think i'll have to go to daiwa someday and get them to check it out. i must have did something wrong when i re-assembled it also with the ocea jigger, i used a pretty stiff jigging rod. would i be right to assume if i had used a softer rod, i might get closer to 15kg?
  3. Today i bought a spring scale to see what the drags are pulling on my reels at locked drag. And i got some very strange results, possibly i did it all wrong? 1) Daiwa Catalina 4500H. I directly pulled the line through around the bail arm roller and i got 10KG. Its the same as what Daiwa stated, so i left it at that. 2) Shimano Ocea Jigger 5000. I directly pulled the line off and got 10kg. I then threaded the line through a 5'6" rod and pulled at an angle, giving me just under 12kg. I didn't get close to the stated 15kg. The only reason i can think of is because i measured it with a full spool and Shimano didn't. 3) Daiwa Saltist 30TH. This one is really bothering me! I pulled the line directly and its giving me 2kg. I thread it though a 6' rod and its returning around 3kg! This one was also measured with a full spool. I read one Alan Tani's carbontex upgrade on the Saltist 40 and it pulled 24lb with full spool! So going on that i doubt just the carbon drag washers can make a 7kg improvement. I did open up this reel once but i'm 100% sure it was put back together the way it came off in reverse. Should i send this one to Daiwa to check it out?
  4. Let's not forget that it was a sad moment for Ross to lose his pride and joy. But thanks to Roberta, hope this article will weed out the scumbag
  5. Search up on Jack Erskine. Not sure if i am allowed to post his website as its kinda a store
  6. i've been to nhulunbuy a few times. my bro in law used to work for nabalco, which i think its alcan now. nice place to relax esp when you don't want a hectic holiday. fishing is great too.
  7. i think its more deformity than damage. i've seen many bream like that in that exact part of the fish top catch btw!
  8. try clifton gardens...i heard is open again or try the fingers wharves at woolloomooloo (sp?). i think its those wharves or is it pyrmont? can't remember but my workmate caught a kingy there on old pillies. both places you can get livies
  9. if you look at japanese specialised egi rods, they're all very soft and whippy
  10. thats excellent work with all your great catches, i reckon you should upgrade your camera
  11. if you can bump up your budget by $100 you may be able to get a daiwa saltist 4500
  12. Thats pretty bad. I've been out with Ross and other charters up and down the coast. We've always been given the option of a full refund, reschedule or if we did go out and had to turn back because it was rough, we pay only part of the trip
  13. The Bradia is a Japanese release model. Go with the Heartland XA, very similar
  14. i've taken jigs, just make sure you take away the hooks. i have taken a reel without line. however, this was leaving from HK. security did check closely with above items but let me through. i was also lucky that he was a keen fisho so that may have helped
  15. i'm guessing you may need to upgrade to Millerods, Stellas, Exists etc I was like that when i first started fishing, it was always zilch. But now i come home with something decent. A guide may help. Seeing people who knows what they're doing dramatically increases your knowledge. I've done it myself. Just keep trying, it will eventually come. I've fished for 3 yrs non-stop before catching a kingfish
  16. basically a current flow that loops back itself. maybe someone has a better scientific explanation. look for a whirlpool effect on top of the water.
  17. I've just bought a second hand Saltist 30TH on the net and i think something is wrong with it. But i want to check with you guys b4 i make a complaint. When i was trying out my Saltist i could actually feel the gears going around each other. They're not crunching but i thought it should be close to the smoothness of a Saltiga. Another problem i've noticed is when i push the clutch lever back to engage the gears, it doesn't engage 100% of the time. Sometimes i need to wind the handle a few times b4 it fully engages. Anyone expereinced the same issues?
  18. great fish! i've always wanted to try that spot when swells get a bit rough fishing off the rocks facing the ocean. are you allowed to park in the golf course parking lot?
  19. i'm with rockfisherman fishing off the rocks have nasty terrain, even bream can bust you up on 10lb line

    Fuel

do not use E10 as the ethanol attracts water. during phase seperation, the water is left on the bottom and fuel on top. and you all know what water does to engines. being in a marine environement, this can be extremely disastrous. there are fuel filters out there but just not worth the risk.
  21. i'm going to assume the branzino is same spool size as the luvias the spool only just fits 300yds of 15lb sufix. just enough left over for some mono backing. I would just fill it all the way up. Braid is less susceptible to deterioration and you won't run out of line so quickly due to leatheries or bust offs
  22. that would be a very nice combo i'm thinking of getting the luvias da 3000 for my magnum butt
  23. those kings are looking a bit malnourished. they seem to be getting a bit too picky these days
  24. why didn't you change it for a bigger hook and pin them on the back?
  25. what time are trying to catch them? its best when you just see the sun over the horizon
