  1. are you fishing off the rocks? get rid of your swivels. a pea sinker with the hook tied to your main line. i use that method on pigs with 10kg mono. hasn't turned them off. i do get line twists but never to the point it twists back on itself i use tortue if it helps at all you can use an eggbeater, in the end its upto you whether you feel comfortable with it
  2. unfotunately sydney won't be getting it fortunately the ultimate fishing show will be on tonight
  3. whats your budget? can i suggest a heartland xa 4000 with a 7'6" catalina rod? i use the lightest catalina of the 3. i've spooled it with PE2.5 and according to manufacturer it breaks almost at 40lb they are not ultra smooth like a stella, but i reckon its not far off from a stradic. daiwa reels feel alot more sturdy too, especially the air bail. i had the sustain, which is supposedly one step up from the stradic. i gave that away after one use as for the rod its long enough to be used land based and also short enough to be used on a boat.
  4. if the guide is moving inside the epoxy, then definitely go back. but if you mean bending the guide, then its easily possible to bend them, espcially if they're single footed guides like most light tackle rods
  5. Thanks for the tips slinky I might give this a go on drummer, just wondering how i go with baiting up a prawn. Don't see bread or cunje would pose a problem
  6. Anyone own a boat that has been bought with a loan? Who are you with at the moment? Or any recommendations of a broker? i know it may possibly differ from people to people. But i just want to get an idea whats out there. I've googled some but i want consumer experience too
  7. are you after high or low end stuff? the one suggested deals mainly with low end stuff. although squid jigs and rapala lures are much cheaper than here
  8. a lot of my large lures bought off the shelf with treble hooks causes it to scratch the body of the lure as you're casting or when it lands in the water. if you run the hook around the lure, you'll see the arc matches the path of the swinging hook. as what Greg said
  9. its your treble hooks. its very common. no way around it really unless you use singles
  10. they are beautiful to watch in the water. they look like possessed footballs darting around
  11. Even in Japan i'm guessing you would have to search very hard for a shop to stock MC Works. When i spoke to the importer in HK, he said its practically just one guy making the rods. I've ordered them back in Feb, so hopefully when i goto HK next year, they'll be there waiting for me. Ripple Fisher is available is OZ, they are the same owner as Yamaga Blanks.
  12. Actually one of fishing journo had written exactly that technique. I think he's is Steve Ng. I think the article was based in Sydney. Try getting a MC Works rod! They will ignore all requests if you are overseas even if you can read/write Japanese. After 2 yrs of trying i've managed to track someone down in Hong Kong who can import them. But the waiting list is as long Ferrari's waiting list, and thats for the standard models.
  13. I got a pack of VMC hooks of various sizes. I've never used these type of circle hooks. What species of fish are these hooks good for? and how would i use them? I can't imagine they would be easy baiting up cut fish flesh. They're 7381's from VMC if you didn't get the mag
  14. i use pr knot as well. i was also taught to finish it off what similarly looks like a snell knot rather than half hitches. it just looks so much cleaner and smoother. with the pr knot, you can use a bobbin or without. without takes a bit longer
  15. female crimson banded wrasse if you ever catch the male, they are a lot more prettier
  16. i use beads for float fishing. somewhere along my line i have a float stopper bead or knot but i like it small. however, this usually lets the stopper go through my float. so i usually put a bead above the float, the hole in the bead are a lot smaller, so it stops the float going further up my line.
  17. The Basin, its along Pittwater. Only annoying thing is, you'll need to lug all your gear via the ferry as theres no direct road access. The ferry departs from palm beach. You can drive but its a long walk. You can flick plastics along the beach.
  18. to me its light because i use an alvey with a heavy fibreglass rod. and i haven't heard my bro in law complain but then again he's a labourer in the construction biz i think they have one 5-10kg, check their website. but since you've got the 4500, don't you want to fish heavy?
  19. check out the ugly stick platinum 8-12kg my bro in law uses it as heavy gear for drummer. its half your budget too
  20. I've snapped a live fibre too. as i was rigging up i got the line thru the last guide and then pulled about 2m of line so i could tie on a hook. i then see a 15cm piece of the rod slide down onto the end of the line. the tip just snapped like a scotch finger. i've always protected my rods so i doubt it had a hairline fracture. On another live fibre, although not serious, the tip guide fell off. Don't think i'll ever be a repeat customer.
  21. it works in high current areas when using plastics with a paddle tail or wriggler. stickbaits won't work the guys at slam reckons it works if you cut it in pieces but has never work for me. altho the leatheries love it, but they chew anything that has an atom or dna or whateva this world is made up of
  22. could you please tell me where you found that? if its a store, pls pm me instead.
  23. fishing isn't banned. at night if you don't mind the walk, you can still walk to it, but its a long walk. the gates are really there to stop the hoons from entering. i've only fished once and i'll never go again. negotiating those boulders with 10ft drops in between...no thanks
  24. Twinpower! Sustain feels like sh!t after using the Japanese designed reels. Even though they're same brand, the origin of its design in some models has a vast difference in quality or feel The extra money is well worth it
  25. If you want some nice rods, look into the Japanese market. Many produce long rods meant for the boat but can be used LB. Just be prepared to pay at least 3 times your budget and then add shipping. Maybe this is something you want to think about one day.
