  1. its very misleading when products over here use PE#. Using a table the number denotes the diameter of the line not the strength. PE5 could be 50lb for some manufacturers or in YGK's case PE5 is 78lbs. I reckon they should also give the max drag for the rod like the japanese specs. Just want to clear that up for you. But saying that any 50lb line should be fine
  2. actually bread itself works very nicely! i've caught luderick, trevs, silver drummer and bream. got a kingy to take a sniff at the bread but didn't want it. bread is a versatile bait and doesn't smell. also if you feel a but hungry, eat the crusts as you only what the white bits. heres a tip, give a fish to the baker and they might give a loaf of bread away. my baker usually gives me couple loaves of day old bread
  3. i like the seagull, thats what all non-fishos do when we rave on about fishing
  4. they're just sardines, you could put some on your jatz crackers haha
  5. you will only need to pay duty if the total cost of the package exceeds $1000AUD. The package costs includes items, shipping costs, insurance etc full details http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page5549.asp
  6. buy it and tell us what you think!
  7. besides the alvey and snyderglas, all my gear is japanese. i'm just a fan of japanese tackle, so i use both makers
  8. i've seen it a few times now, something must be going on in the control tower or pilots just not listening to instructions but they take a long while before doing a turn around, a jumbo dissappeared off to wollongong way
  9. apparently they have other uses other than just being food http://www.news.com.au/technology/story/0,...5014239,00.html
  10. probably next closest is little manly, but you'll need to be early as not many spots to park car and trailer
  11. if you want a lot more grunt. a catalina 4500H and catalina XH rod combo costs $849
  12. i reckon you did everything right. usually a popper or unweighted sluggo works just remember kings can be pickier than a 6yr old at the dinner table
  13. if you want simple and a fish that pulls hard i think you should go after black/silver drummer. for drummer, all you need is an outfit that handles 10kg mono, 15kg if you find big ones. bait is just white bread, cunje, cabbage weed or prawns (try banana prawn so pickers don't destroy the bait so quickly). rig is 2 - 1/0 hook with ball sinker down to hook. places to look for are rocky areas and places with a lot of wash. but when the sun is not fully up, you can also try calm areas that are filled with rocks. these fish lives amongst the rocks and caves so they are shy, so best times are morning and late arvo. also be prepared to lose a few hooks from snags or bust offs can't get simpler, no fancy rigs or the need to source the freshest or live bait, minimal tackle i still like live baiting for kings off the rocks but it could be days or weeks before getting a sniff.
  14. i'm sure you can get a longer handle and larger knob from daiwa. it only says for certate on their site but if its just a screw on handle, it should be fine. give em a call
  15. couldn't you use a stick and scrape some of that stuff for berley?
  16. they're heaps good fun aren't they?! thats all i ever target on the rocks during winter because its just so simple
  17. i never said there was anything wrong
  18. you should have bought the saltist with the levelwind if you need visual instructions, jump onto youtube. i'm sure theres a video somewhere
  19. The Wobbegong has a beard and the spots/bands are more pronounce, thats the description i recall from memory they are release only according to dpi
  20. the trevs were on a differnt rod. just a pea ball sinker down to the hook. it is a bit harder to feel bites when its this windy. i remember twice i was retrieving and felt something just slowly pulling away. i was live baiting for kings on another i wanted to put the trevs out as bait but didn't have balloon.
  21. dunno where the stradic CI4 would be made. I know the japanese version is made in japan. The body and internals are exactly the same. The spool is exactly the same as well but just different badging. i'd be interested to know where this one is made too. maybe they have two factories making the same thing? *shrugs*
  22. i just came back from DY and the whole time i wished i slept in. only came back with a few trevs, was hoping for kingies. i'm definitely sleeping in tmr as it will be the same
  23. i suggest you get the original and copy exactly the shape and size of the lead too. Stating the obvious, but any differences to the original can affect the sink pattern
  24. Its not a revamped Fireblood, its just one level below the Fireblood. Over here and in the US, it has been rebadged as a Stradic CI4. In Japan, the Fireblood is the Sephia and the Stradic CI4 is the Sephia CI4. I know the Fireblood has been taken off from the site but if Japan has released a newer normal Sephia, i'm guessing there might be a new Fireblood coming. Can't see any specs on the Shimano Aus website but i'm guessing the major differences are the Stradic will come with 3 less bearings than the Fireblood and you don't get the DLC line roller. I'm just using the Japanese versions to compare. All Japanese reels come with one spool, thats the sucky bit because some spools are almost half the price of the reel. Anyways, you'll have fun with this reel. I've got the old Sephia and i've nearly got everything on it. Gotta love the drag, its ultra smooth. The newer ones has a max. 10kg of drag!
