  1. I showed Cassie the photo and the year 5 girl is in her class...although Cassie's in year 6...they have that composite class thing going there for the last couple of years...they'll be swapping fishing stories today no doubt...
  2. Well done to the girls...I recognise one of them...I'm sure that's St Johns blazer they're both wearing... Cassie also goes to their school and will be showing off her fishing club trophies this Tuesday...
  3. Bummer...read this too late...and I was looking at the low tide times yesterday to go and collect some cabbage for a Balmoral Blackie session...but got busy with errands...then got an invite to lunch at the Brookie Hotel...which I went and got a few downs...downed some schooners that is...
  4. Damn Roberta...why didn't you tell me you were going to be at Balmoral...I ended up doing some errands and couldn't harvest cabbage as the tide was high and ended up flicking some plastics at Narrabeen lakes...trouble is there was a mothers group nearby and then I had 8 rugrats at my feet jibber jabbering away...still they were a lot of fun as company and everytime I bought my SP out they screamed with delight I had caught a fish...I ended up watching them for an hour while the mums gossiped away...
  5. What we need is hooks with camera's on them and then a screen on the rod...
  6. Damn...I had other things planned for my day off tomorrow but after reading that post and seeing those Blackies lying there...I'll be collecting some cabbage and hunting Blackies now...
  7. Harbord rocks just infront of the Harbord Diggers has a good supply of cababge...got to get there at low tide to get it...and I had a look around Dee Why rocks just around the corner of the sea pool and in front of it and there was long stringy weed and cabbage about...heaps of it... I reckon you'd be able to collect it just about off any of the rock ledges at low tide though...the above 2 are very accessible and a short troll from the car park... I haven't tried the lake for Blackies but know a couple of comfy wharfs up this way and have got some big ones...just want to pip Cassie for the biggest now... My hands up for a Kingy Session in the summer...especially a mid week session...
  8. Checkout todays Weekender Newspaper ludderick59 and anyone else on the Northern Beaches...Cassie's ludderick gets a mention...bad luck on the big ones getting away though mate...
  9. Great stuff Roberta...lovely blackies there...
  10. We were at our wharf spot yesterday at first light and got one about 2 hrs later...then nothing for another couple of hours till around 2.30 were we got 2 more Blackies...best one was a 41 cm specimen...we hit the spot again today at first light and got nothing...all up 10 hrs of fishing over 2 days for 3 fish...yet last wednesday and Thursday 3 hours for 6 fish with 2 thumpers amongst them...
  11. I hope they're still about this weekend...I need to catch a few...where you fishing off the rocks or estuary fishing...
  12. Fishing comp weekend for our club and the last one for the season....Cassie and I are hoping to take an esky full of Blackies to weigh in on Sunday afternoon...we'll be fishing first light Saturday and probably all day and also get a Sunday morning session in...this is a make or break weekend with several trophies up for grabs...
  13. My names James,I'm about to hit 40 in a couple of months and have been fishing for just on 2 years now. Never thought much about fishing till we went away about 4 yrs ago to Nelson Bay with another family who's dad was a keen fisho and bought up some rods for the kids to fish...didn't think much of it other than the kids were having fun and I was merely a bystander whilst the other dad rigged them up and baited them up etc... Then 2 yrs ago during the school holidays my youngest daughter asked if we could go fishing...she said she really liked it and was dying to have another go at it...so I ventured to my local tackle shop and bought a couple of cheap rods $25 and off we went... The flukey thing that she is caught a thumper bream and we were addicted from then. My local where I drink had a fishing club and the fishos had been harrasing me to join and partake so I did... 2 years down the track we are no longer novices and have been taught a lot and have had some great fun fishing together and competing in our fishing comps...Cassie has won the juniors and Ladies and is on her way to repeat it this year as well as possibly take out the overall estuary section...we fish with 2 rods each and apparently her bait tastes better according to the fish... I was taken down to the beach one night last year to be taught beach fishing by our club president and ended up putting a 6"0 size hook thru his calf hence they nicknamed me Capt Hook in our club.He still has the scars.I'm proud I got the top dog of our club and am now aiming for the treasurer... I am hooked on Blackies now after Roberta's and Roostermans tutorials and it feels like I'm starting all over again with this new type of fishing. This is a great and imformative site to learn about fishing and techniques. Tight Lines... Cheers from Me and Cassie
  14. He got washed in just off Dee Why...around a bit from the ocean pool...I know that area very well and it's a very dangerous spot...I don't know why people risk it. I do have to say though we frequent the pool almost daily during the summer and I see the majority of Fishos being of Asian background and I'm guessing many are ignorant of the real danger.
  15. Having your kid as a fishing partner is awesome and very rewarding...I only managed 2 girls and old fashioned thinking would have you expecting a boy to be a fishing partner for eg....but my youngest girl loves fishing and it's a great time out together...be patient with them at the start and let them "claim" the prizes...meaning reel the fish in and be their catch...and they will be hooked and the smile on their face and excitement of the achievement is priceless... My problem is now my daughter has beaten me in our comps and also for biggest fish...and we set who's rods who's at the start of every fishing session yet she seems to get the luck all the time...
  16. At 2 yrs of age he'll likely have forgotten about it in a couple of years time...there's hope yet...
  17. That's not a Blackfish...that's a Pigfish... Low tide just before 6 am this Saturday Morning Steve... Cassie and I are going collecting cabbage and hopefully catch a stack of these for the weigh in on Sunday afternoon... I'm hoping to pip her for the biggest...but she's fluckey...she's got me for size on a Bream,Trevally and Flatties so far...and didn't take her long to pip me for Blackies...
  18. Nice catch Roosterman...sheez...it does look like a fat one...no wonder it had some good weight to it... I hope they're still about next weekend...I'll be putting some hours in with Cass for our last comp weekend for the year and hoping to get some good points targetting these fish...
  19. Blackfish off any wharf I'd say are the go right now...apparently off the rocks as well... If you're talking off a boat...I can't help you there...
  20. Great catch for the little girl...bet she was excited...well done Chelsea...
  21. Nice Blackie there sails... ps...how big can these Blackies get...so far I have seen a few caught around the 42-43 mark...I thought mine was big till Cassie stumped me the next day with her one...was that a fish of a lifetime catch so to speak...I'm curious as to how big they could grow to... Mine went 44 cm but hers was 2 cm longer only but it was much fatter and easily 300 grammes more in weight...
  22. Hopefully your mate had it insured... It will turn up for sale somewhere...and could be identified...that's unless they don't repaint it and make it different to what it looks like now...looks like the work of pro's...
  23. Nice catch of Blackies there...well done...
