  1. thanks jewgaffer toby missed out on the bulk of the fish last week, but we don't speak about that anymore do we toby hehehe
  2. Robbie, myself and toby headed out from tunks this morning and tackled soem kingies. Got yakkas and had soem squid and managed a few hits and a few fish. We scored 5 kingies which all went back except for one for the table which toby expertly filleted and we had half for breakfast. The fish are not as prolific as last weekend but there are still a couple around, mostly rats though. Side note #1: we didn't break anything, lose anything, or drop anything down to the seafloor by mistake! Side note #2: I've never had a problem with sea sickness but I have a cold at the moment and I feel a bit off now... I think the cold may be a catalyst for sea sickness, so keep that in mind if you ae taking a deep sea charter ever. side note #3: Robbie may have to have his nobel peace prize for yakka conservation revoked as today he didn't drop any of our livies overboard accidently.
  3. times are tough eh... sick of kingies!!!! haahahaha
  4. oh my gosh stumpy! those bustoffs last weekend sure got to you hey a tiagra 50w on harbour kings!!!!
  5. I think we will be out? not sure yet.
  6. you can eat eels. They taste great but have a lot of bones
  7. Sounds like a fun day anyway! Don't big kings look amazing in the water! There are a lot of rats around at the moment, but if you have the bait and some time we have found you eventually hook up to some bigger fish... it's a shame you couldn't get more live bait hey. If you have a sounder then finding bait is usually easy. A well known spot for yakkas on the south side of the harbour is the wedding cake channel marker. You can restock there without braving the swell
  8. you always see dudes in japan fishing the little rivers, but I've never seen any of them with any fish. I haven't been out of the main areas though, but it seems like fishing in Australia is a lot better. I'd concentrate on the snowboarding. Hit up the halfpipe for me
  9. I would exchange it, when you're fishing big gear you want to limit the amount of things that can go wrong, however miniscule the chance.
  10. don't worry toby, threw plenty back in for you to catch next time here's the video of robbie and basil handlining/barking at fish. edit: gah! robbie beat me to it! here's the fish we kept.
  11. I was going to sms you but I didn't see your boat out so I was scared of waking you up! You said you didn't make it out right, so I'm glad I didn't!
  12. hehe well thats ok you may have started a trend... glad I've already caught my first kingy though uh yeah we did pretty good. Robbie is in the middle of writing up a report so I wont steal his thunder. You guys have a sweet boat by the way stumpy & co. Travelling in style!
  13. Good work steve, stumpy and jess. You can see our boat I think in the corner of the picture of jess after her ritual (hmm dunno how you fell for that one jess). Seemed like you guys had a good day, first kingy is an amazing thing, i bet you were stoked all day after that. I was the guy SMSing back and forth with Steve.

    Slimies

if you are specifically after slimies north/south head would be better than balmoral.
  15. you guys must sure love catching bass.
  16. The tyrnos is a good reel, you don't want to be jigging with it though unless you are the incredible hulk!
  17. give me an sms if you're out sunday, we should be about
  18. Should have asked them to pry it loose for you while they were down there. Divers as a general rule don't like fishermen because they eat the things they go down to see basically. There are quite a few exceptions to that though, and soem very reasonable divers who are fishermen too, but definately the dive charter operators don't like us too much.
  19. You guys did really well last weekend regardless though! Maybe the kings saw we had no squid and munched on our yakkas our of sympathy Thanks all for the kind words, hopefully we'll be back at it this weekend trying to break the new mark
  20. I fished friday (11-1) with Andrew snr my father in law, and we managed one king on the DR, but it looked like it would be a good day saturday (12-1) to get out and amongst some kings, so I jumped at the chance when Robbie offered me a spot on his boat! The crew for the day was myself, Robbie, Toby (unsure of FR name?) and basil the ever faithful canine deck hand. We had a late start as we haven't been getting any squid anyway, and picked up some yakkas and slimies quickly for bait and began downrigging. We ran into Oz and said hello, and not long after we were onto our first fish of the morning. Toby was on strike as he'd never caught a king before, and pulled in a 60cm fish to start proceedings. We reset the rigger and Robbie was next on strike. He didn't have to wait long before pulling in a similar sized fish, a little bigger than toby's, both fish were released promptly with much barking and jumping around from basil. I was up next and a good fish hit the rigger, pulling plenty of drag. It took me a little while to get it under control, and I was absolutely buggered by the time I got colour on it (personally I blame too much Christmas food). But we got into the boat, and it went 73cm which is a new PB for me. Over the next half hour a half a dozen more fish hit the deck all going back into the drink and we lost a couple as well, including a keeper boatside dude to a poor knot. Incidently, Andrew snr tied the knot, and he's been stewing around in his garage all weekend furious with himself Unfortunately the bite slowed and we managed to snag one of robbies bombs on a reef, which sucked. We decided to go back and get more yakkas at this point, as we were out of bait nearly, and we got another 10 or so while chowing down on some of the best bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches I've tasted for a while. We took our yakkas and hit some markers around the harbour for not much. A guy next to us hooked up to a king on soft plastics, which was cool to see... and we downrigged around the heads a bit more for nothing. All in all it was a great day to be out, with good company and something tasty to take home.
  21. Andrew snr and I were out on the water early this morning and managed only one squid til late in the morning when we picked up another two. Many people had only one or two. We ran into another raider whose name had many letters and numbers that confused me but exchanged numbers and went on the kingy hunt. We tried our usual spots and just got our squid picked, til we got an sms with the location of the kingies. Downrigged around for an hour and managed a last year legal which somehow I hooked through the nose punk rock style... was thinking of throwing him back down as live bait We were pretty stoked to get our first kingy on the new downriggers, after fishing at anchor for kings successfully for a year, you need some success to motivate you to pull them out And it was great to meet another friendly raider. Late in the day a couple of other raiders said hi to us, they'd apprently been out to the FAD. Hi to you guys whoever you are! I have a pic of our kingy, I'll toss it up tonight when i get it off my phone.
  22. I'm currently studying at southern cross doing marine science, and it is a pretty decent uni. I believe UNE also has some courses available that are similar, but for my course we pretty much spend most of our time at the NMSC at coffs harbour. There are a few Sydney universities that do marine degrees as well, but certainly some of my classmates are hoping to get into aquaculture. PM me if you have questions.
