  1. Lol thanks guys! Frags it's really the only way to get enough squid for the day. Unless your good enough to get 15 squid or so in the morning. I'm not that good lol. If your unsure of how to do an all nighter or have any questions let me know more than happy to help, I quite like doing it to be honest, I sleep quite well and it's just like camping really, turn the radio on have a few beers and catch some squid quite peaceful really. Although there is a couple of regular guys I know who do it in the same spot as I do and we have a good chat while squidding.
  2. So over the last few weeks I've put in 3 nights of squidding and sleeping on the boat and another 2 sessions for not a single legal king. To say I'm going through a dry spell is an understatement, as annoyed and tired as I was with it I decided to head Friday night, fill the tank with squid and sleep on the boat. So headed out and within 2 mins of the ramp there were white bait getting smashed by mac tuna. Had a quick cast on my way past and hooked up on the 6lb gear and eventually got him to te boat. Not a bad start I thought. Not to waste time left the bait ball and started squidding, was really hard to get the squid and only ended up with about 8 big aarows before deciding to sleep. Woke up in the morning and grabbed a few yakkas just incase I hit a feeding frenzy and off I went to downrig. Tried a few spots and ended up finding them, landed 3 or 4 between 65 and 70. The dry spell is broken haha, with one in the esky I decided to look for hoods as that's what I'm really after. Last spot I tried I put a bait down which lasted about 10secs before the reel is screaming, nice 74cm fish. Ended up keeping another fish which was bleeding badly and the hook had torn down his stomach, I normally don't like taking more than one but it's a bit cruel to out back a fish you know will slowly die. I think I ended up getting about 8-9 fish all above 70 and popped a few tags in them before leaving them biting. Oh and sorry for the ugly head in the last photo haha Cheers
  3. Good work guys, that wind in the morning made it really hard to downrig. That's a massive squid and that head would make a perfect bait for next time, looks like you've got a feast there. Maybe you should order some tags from fisheries and start tagging them? You guys seem to be getting it more consistent in getting the kings well done. So you got them where I told you I had just got them? A lot of time in the harbour if you fish away from where every other boat is it can really pay off.
  4. For the bigger reel a saragosa 10000 will Do what you want mate I've got one caught countless kings on it.
  5. Nice work guys! Keep any for a feed? All caught on plastics?
  6. Yea hard to able to afford a house and sydney and pay rent. What happens when there are no tenants in te house you could be paying over $1200 a week before bills etc. Plus with the amount of foreign investors and people buying investment houses in sydney I'm starting to think the rent proces will soon struggle to pay for the morgage
  7. Hahaa crossfire your right I haven't! But I want to lol. Yep everyone says the love it up there and don't regret the move at all so might have to start seriously thinking about it
  8. Awsome thanks guys, I'm actually thinking of coming up Saturday with the missus for a drive around and check out a few suburbs we might be looking at and have a drive around Brisbane waters etc. Then might even have a look further north towards Lake Macquarie as I will find work easily in Newcastle I reckon seems to be enty of industry there. I ideally wouldn't want to drive every day to work in sydney but maybe I'll have to for a while while I find work up there. I live in winston hills now which is in the hills area. How long does it take you to drive to Smithfield or wetherill park of you go mate?
  9. How come the traffic earlier is crazy I thought the later it is the worse it would be? Have you good it hard to find work up there?
  10. I can't believe you said that!! Fighting a hoodlum is like a full session in the gym, fighting a Jew is like reeling a plastic bag caught in the current! I think maybe I'll make the move a little further north and work in Newcastle?
  11. Oh also another thing in worries about is the kingfish! All I fish for is kingies in the boat. Where can I chase them up there except for Texas reef? Are there closer reefs? As the boat is only 4.2m
  12. Hey guys so basically me and the missus are thinking of buying out first house and since sydney is just out of the question with prices we are thinking the central coast. Were looking to buy something for around $400k-$450k mark around Brisbane waters and surrounding areas. The missus works in the city so she can just jump on a train and be at work within 1h 15mins if I'm not wrong? Me on the other hand. I am a fitter/turner and would look for work up there but really don't have a clue as to how much work there actually is up there? So second option is to work in sydney at my current job which is in Smithfield. I can't imagine leaving the central coast at 6am there would be to muh traffic down the f3 and pennant hills rd? Am I mistaken? I can see coming home would be a big issue I finish work at 4-5 each day and I can see pennant hills rd would be a nightmare! Does anyone make this commute? If so what can I expect? I may even try and get a job up there on a commercial fishing boat as I have my ticket but again I really don't know how much work there would be and what the pay would be like. What's the central coast like for work? Is there enty around for tradies?
  13. I bought a 1600 lumen squid light to and fitted it to my boat. But I was wonderingn what sort f success people have actually had using them and if there are any tips to using then? Cheers guys
  14. Lol I wouldn't worry to much about it, no one else seems to.
  15. Yea squid are protected in the shaded area.
  16. Here's a photo of the aquatic reserve mate
  17. Mate I think your a bit confused on the name of spots, post up a photo of the area you were and I'll tell you the name and also if it's in the aquatic area. I'll try and find a map of the aquatic reserve. There wasn't a wharf where you were was there?
  18. Lol that guy is an idiot mate your doing the right thing. So I'm guessing he tied your braid to a swivel? That is a big no no. I run quite a short leader for kings, I also use mono leader not fluro as fluro tends to get kinks in it and is quite stiff when you go up in the heavier line classes.
  19. Good work mate! Where abouts it's hat head in sydney?
  20. Nice work guys plenty of fish there! Yea that was me I wasn't sure it is was you guys haha. I headed to the peak for only one rat. No fish there at all was a rough day out there that's for sure
  21. Cheers chewie Yea my sounder is the same as his, I've got it dialed in pretty good as well I would definantly see them on the sounder. I'm Normally there just after sunrise
  22. Hey guys, Ive tried a few times at the Annie Miller and Arti for slimeys and just cant find them there at all. I went on a certain charter in sydney and we hit the annie miller doing exactly what I did and cleaned up on the slimeys, pulling in full strings every drop. All we did was cruise around the wreck site until we sounded them and dropped. Every time I go i cant even sound them up! Anyone have any suggestions? Cheers guys.
  23. Awsome! Thanks mate for the help really appreciate that. So looks like I can do some runs off the coast the. When the winds are then just stay in the esturys and fish for barra and the smaller gt's etc
  24. Awsome! Have a great time mate let me know how you go!
