Haha sometimes they don't play by the rules!
Can I give you some advice? Never anchor near a marker, if they are there they are there and you will know within the first 2 minutes (if using squid you caught that day) then just drift past as this allows you to drive off the marker once hooked up.
If you catch a few rats at one marker don't waste your squid go to another marker and have a go for the bigger fish.
Everyone in sydney are just sheep and 90% of the guys out there catch nothing but rats, anyone can catch a rat it's not hard. But to consistently pull nice size legal fish is another ball game.
Take the other weekend for example, wedding cakes and yellow can had around 8-10 boats around each one, no one hooking up and all tangling each other's lines and fishing ontop of each other. Even if someone did hook a decent king you'd never land the thing anchored up, even if your using 80lb you'd have a hard time holding them off the marker.
So I went to another marker where there was no one, within 1 hour pulled about 8-10kongs to 75cm just drifting past, and got done once on the marker. Some boats saw me and came over so I watched in amusement, everyone throws there anchors down, fish go off the bite, people ask how I'm catching them all and what there doing wrong etc I up and leave back at the ramp by 10 with dinner
