  1. Best thing you can do is get rid of those trebles in place for some 5/0 hooks, nothing worse than trying to unhook a undersized gutted hooked king and basically kill it in the process
  2. There hasn't been anything at the whale fad since it's been out I was out there last weekend and the water was only 20.5 and green, I'd wait another month I teckon
  3. I just put a rapala CDX White body red head down at south head today and got 2 rats and a salmon within 5 minutes.
  4. Awsome cheer a mate will have to give it a go, love to the bonito as sushami, make sure they are bled straight in ice and there a top table fish despite what anyone says
  5. Good work mate, whih part of south head is known as bonito alley I've heard f people naming it that before but aren't sure which part exactly they mean and also how far out for the land do you troll?
  6. Thanks for that mate I'll have to zoom in on the bottom in mine and see what I can see. It's a hds 7, it works perfect for sounding kings and bait etc etc even on my hds 5 I was never really able to tell if I was over reef or sand in say more than 15 metres of water it all just looked the same. I'll have to have a play and zoom in I think is the key.
  7. Do you guys ever sound any fish when bottom Fishing? I never see anything on my sounder even when I am getting bites and there's fish there
  8. Good work mate I had no luck at all I couldn't get any sort of drift going. What area were you fishing?
  9. It's been quote a good summer season so far except for today, a few weeks ago the current was moving nicely, the water was blue and be temps were up, oh also there were plenty of jellyfish in the water today which generally go hand in hand with terrible king sessions I've found!
  10. After a mate saying they want to go for a bottom Bash (which I never do) I was more than happy to take them Out. Got a text at 4am saying there not coming anymore, good start. So since the rods were already loaded for bottom bashing I decided to he a go and see if I can get some fish for Xmas lunch. Headed out about 6am and tried the fad and some traps for dollies nothing there. So onto the bottom fishing at dee why wide, long reef wide, mugs. And various other marks around those locations. All Coming up with nothing, well except a nice snapper which spat the hook boat side and a some bakers. The water was green and only 20 degrees with no current what so ever and no wind to push you along either. It's hard bottom fishing when there's no current let me tell ya. I haven't been out and it's been that quiet for a long time. Spoke To a few boys chasing kings and they hadn't had any luck either. As they say no run no fun!
  11. That's awsome mate well done looks like they are finally turning up, when you say south fad are you talking about the one off botany or off manly beach?
  12. It's electricity building in the air mate it's pretty common during storms. I know if be packing up and heading straight back in if it was me!
  13. Most of the time I use aarow squid but prefer to use green eyes, because they are generally bigger and bigger the squid the better when kingie fishing I believe, plus there more tasty than the aarow
  14. Just buy the veratis rod the reels that come with them are horrible, they corroded very easily and just aren't a nice reel really. The veritas is a very nice rod but I have 2
  15. Haha, I'm inpatient I know! I've tried twice around the fad and a few traps over the last 2-3 weeks and haven't found anything yet. They are taking there time this year!
  16. Most wondering if anyone has caught any dollies off sydney in close lately! There plenty of fish traps out there and the fads are out, the water temp is perfect so where are these fish!
  17. Maybe they specify different oils? They run different plugs? There must a reason for it. I don't think would like there outboards to be te known for only lasting 5 years or 10 years even, if they had that teputation no one would buy them, if you bought one and got 5 years out of it why would you buy another one?
  18. Think of it this way, you mix it 100:1 and you can't go wrong it's what the manufacturer has specified, they know what is best for there engines. And you save money on oil. Have a think about it why would a manufacturer specify you can run a leaner mixture of oil if it was bad for the motor? They don't want to see there motors lasting 5 years before needing rebuilds that would look pretty bad on them.
  19. I'd use a good quality oil like penrite (because it's readily available and everywhere seems to have it) or they yamaha oil and mix it to what yamaha says. No one knows the engines as well as the people who built them, this is how things normally go wrong some backyarder thinks he knows more than one of the biggest outboard companies and doubles the oil. Using to much oil can be just as bad as not using enough, clog carbies, create a lot more carbon throughout the motor, foul your plugs and destroy them, make the engine less fuel efficient. Create way to make smoke etc etc. From my ( a mechanics) point of view is be doing exactly what the manufactures states.
  20. What were you using for bait mate?
  21. Best part about squidding also is if they don't get eaten there great dinner
  22. Good work on the king mate it's always hardest to get that first one. Best advice I could give you. You need to be in the water a lot earlier, you want to start downrigging as close to first kith as possible. Also if your in the harbour or the headlands yakkas are not worth the space the take up in the live tank, you need to get live squid. The best kingie fishermen are also the best squidders. Good work mate keep it up
  23. Good work mate, don't you hate it when you have to have your head down and it's rough, worst feeling in the world makes fishing horrible!
