  2. Haha. You would need a few for a feed. When they are small they ball up in large numbers, like 100. On the move, they look like one big fish
  3. Well done on the PB. Thats a good fish. Glad you got amongst the fish, on a pretty quite weekend. Your mate looks absolutely shattered. Ryder
  4. Catch that 50cm blackfish. Catch anything on sp that's not a Gulp Get Sgt Bundy that beach Jewie (next weekend) Meet more Raiders who share the passion. Have a happy Hogmanay.
  5. With the metal, if you're casting at a school on the surface, use a fast retrieve. Rod tip down, even in the water, to keep the lure on or just under the surface. If the fish follow but won't bite, stop winding, and let it hit him in the face, he'll bite. They will turn after the strike, so set the hook when you feel weight.
  6. 3 places I would recommend for the fishing you mentioned are Yamba , Forster or Nambucca heads. They each have great waterways, breakwalls and beaches. I can't comment on the camping prospects
  7. Well done mate, great session. Sounds like they're on down there. Sound like you could used a fly fishers net to help land fish when wading. They're small, light and you can hang the off a clip on your back, or just down your belt. It could save some heartache .
  8. Great job getting your first. Well done. The mighty Lane Cove River does hold a few. I reckon the smell is like Iodine, I've only smelled it at the beach.
  9. Graphite rod? Similar thing happened too me a few months back. The storm was still a way off but the rod dicharged a good Zap. St Elmos Fire.
  10. Yeh you can see it, that dark shadow moving quick from the top right, towards the centre. 0 to 7 seconds. Never doubted it, fishermen aren't prone to exaggeration. Haha
  11. Oh so close mate. The hook must not have set, too bad. The other shovel nose is a common by catch chasing Jews. I'm sure it won't be long now.
  12. Up the leader to 10lb at least . The big ones go hard once they hit the surface or see the net. They will run again and again. On the light line you should be ok, it's the leader that will give way. Set the drag before, and resist changing it during the battle.
  13. Yeh Ron I got a nice rubber lipped square mouth. Long in the body, true ocean fish. No complaints, Royce took great care of me, getting in and out. As for the Mrs, i didnt wake her, I woke the cat, which woke her. She's punished me by bringing home 2 more foster kittens. I've only a short window tomorrow.
  14. More surprising, his 3rd Blackfish ever. He knows how to fish, or he wouldn't have landed it solo. Well done mate.
  15. With the recent rain the squid will be a bit harder to get. The kings will show up in numbers, just a matter of time. But it's like kids waiting for Christmas. Haha Sorry about the rod, a similar thing happened to mine. I offered it to repair sydneyfisher12 s rod. Maybe we should have a Repairs and Spares section.
  16. Good to see you got your first salmon. There are alot turning up with tailor mixed in. Look for the seagulls working the surface. That is one of the wedding cakes , any of the large marker will hold kings from time to time. I think your Ray is a Banjo Shark
  17. Hi Raiders, It was a very early start for me this morning. Up at 3am meet up with Royce and Reg at 4.30, We headed down south to Tabbigai, and arrived just as the sun was peeping over the horizon . These guys have heaps of experience, so I took all their advice on board. Safety first. We watched a lower ledge for a while, the swell was low but it was still a bit Iffy, so we started on one of the higher spots. It was a bit slow, but we managed a fish each. Then the call to move was made by Royce, he had been watching the lower ledge the whole time. We got the berley going, and the boys started pulling in the fish. I was having just a little trouble casting a fixed float set at 12ft ,but they got me sorted, and I stared getting fish. For a while it was a down a drift, and usually a fish. We left them biting around 10am. Thanks guys for a great day out, and all your help and advice. Ryder
  18. He looks sick and starving . Could be a broken spine, lower half of him is dying
  19. Well done one the first legal whiting. And for Daddy, Daughter Day.
  20. That fish of yours just wouldn't give up. He went back under the pontoon again and again. Flat out refused the net, and I thought he had you on the pylon. Great little session.
  21. Tears, for a life so short. Bat is out!
