  1. We used to use a tin can, small holes punched in the bottom (used a nail and hammer) and soap in it for bait. This was the best thing for catching freshwater shrimp both in the Darling north of Bourke and also at Mungindi on the Barwon. J
  2. Cracker night was the best. I can always remember having a great time as a kid. We would spend weeks before building a bonfire out in a paddock with our friends, we would drag out timber from the bush and then on the night the parents would gather to oversea our charades, we would untie all the tom thumbs so we could let them off one at a time...none of this all at once rubbish. The parachute fireworks were the best!. After it was all done and the fire had died down, we would bury some potatoes in the coals and wait for them to cook, then you would scoop out some of the potato and fill it with butter, salt and pepper and talk way into the evening with the littlest of the kids falling asleep on the rugs our parents bought out. It was usually 4 or 5 families together and even now, I can still remember some of those conversations and the cold, crystal clear night with the sky full of stars. Getting up early in the morning to find stuff that didnt go off or collect up the parachutes and spent rockets was always fun for us as well. J
  3. The mounting should be the same. The AE 60 aerial is also GME. J
  4. A lot of the ramps have taps located near them. I always carry a hose and the muffs onboard, if we are a fair way away from houses, I will often do it there prior to going home. J
  5. I forgot to do this bit sorry. My name is John. It all started many many years ago with chooks and horses. I learned you could tie flies from the chook feathers and get into some back country with the horses...the chooks took a back seat and fly fishing became my relaxation. Living on the bay it was easy to learn salt water fishing from the old guys that used to live in the area. We always had a tinnie to muck around with and the freezer normally had fish in it, the weekend would find us catching prawns or crabs and cooking them up on the beach. Now the horses have gone, the chooks have taken over the stables, the dressage arena is now vegie gardens, recently bought myself a boat and now I am one of the oldies that taught me so much. Many thanks for letting me join up, if you see a new Quinnie Sea Spirit hanging around on the bay, get out of the way or stand on the ramp, it is the safest place to be. J
  6. If you are fishing from the beach, also try the village side of the oil wharf. The lights come on at dark and you can usually spin up some flathead or catch them on a slow retrieve with bait. If it is low tide try walking out off the beach in front of the car park near the reserve (right hand side of the oil wharf). Plenty of weed beds with big sandy areas through them which is another good squid or flathead area. If you fish the groynes, the one straight at the end of Dampier Street, about 2 thirds the way out on the left hand side as you head out is usually pretty good. J
  7. Firstly, do you have the login details for your site? If you do, then you would FTP it down to your PC. If it simply text based you should be able to make minor changes, like names, using any editing software and then copying it back up to the webservers again via FTP. J
  8. I will also be on the bay tomorrow. Hopefully you guys have left a few flatties around. J
  9. Paikea, I have sent you a PM. J
  10. Many years ago. as kids, we used to chase prawns out off Bonna Point and when the tide got low enough, hunt flathead in the shallows where the sand met the weed. You would invariably stand on a numby ray and jump when you were shocked. It never stopped us having fun and was very funny when it happened to someone else. J
  11. Paikea, Just went through some of my stuff. I actually have a cast iron smoking box for a gas bbq. If you want to try that instead of buying one, you are welcome to it. J
  12. Or try Barbeque Factory down on Parraweena Road (there is also a cast iron box), just behind the RoadTechMarine place. I use a Hark smoker for fish, bacon and hams but also use a webber charcoal with wood chunks.
