    Lures

Well I believe that you will get lots of input from Raiders here but if you go to your local tackle shop not a department store type but one that has fisho's at the counter then they will steer you in the right direction, this way you can get great advice on how to rig and what is the best way to use them. Be prepared to spend a few dollars as well.. My input would be to start with some plastics and jigheads as they will catch your flatties and bream.
  2. try some white/pearl plastics, catch more bonnies than everyone else..
  3. cast out as far as you can as straight as possible then crank back as fast as you can, stop a few seconds then do it again, lots of times the bonnies will smash it when paused. Look at the people around you and cast where they don't...
  4. looks like a common old kelpie to me..
  5. 18 only for me from numerous attempts... Next week after the big tides maybe...
  6. G'day raiders, I found this little kids necklace thingo at Avoca last week. I looked at it and thought I could make a lure out of that. So tonight was the night I constructed this super killer bonito lure hahaha. It will be out in the water on the weekend to see if it can catch a fish.. Results to come so stay tuned... The start The result
  7. hahaha that's great Roberta...The queen of Forster...
  8. Hahaha, just the beginning mate, there is always something else you will need, I cant even go into my local tackle shop to say g'day to the chaps without coming out a few bucks lighter..
  9. Hi all, the tusks come out of the gill plates, we extracted some from Black Jews we caught on a 4 day charter we did last year, we pulled out 2 sets of ear bones (jewels ) and tusks, the tusks slid out from the inside of the gill plate, the curved shape of the tusk is the same as the curve of the gill plate, the bigger the jew the bigger the tusk. I still have my 2 sets, the jewels are still nice and white , the tusks have dis-coloured though as they are more like bone/ivory colour now.. I am going on another Darwin charter in October this year and if I can manage it I'm going to video the operation of jewel and tusk removal..

  16. I too have experienced the smell of jewies on the beach, it was up at Crescent head. An old salty seadog named Harry told me that he smelt the jewies while he was beach worming that afternoon and that we should hit the beach that night at 1:00am on the high tide change, well guess what , it happened my mate Hutcho and I scored jewies between 70-90cms and it was one hell of a night, old Harry was right and yes there was a particular odour on the beach that night, don't know how to describe it but I would recognise it again easily...

  20. Very nice mate, love that place can't wait to get up there again...
  21. Mate the central coast is no worse than Sydney areas or anywhere for that matter, I have lived here for 30 years and a part time liver and holidayer for the other 25 years of my life. I did commute for 10 years but that was back in 80s, 90,s. I see a lot of Sydney holiday makers and they are surprised at how easy going it is up here and pleasant the people are. This is still the kind of place where you actually get to know people, like being recognised in the street or wave from an oncoming car, they even give way to you on the streets up here, not a lot of rushing going on. Park your car in the car park and still there when you get back don't even lock it sometimes. Schools are great, no probs with my 2 going all the way through, both finished now with good jobs.. Anyway good luck with your quest but for me 5 mins is as far as I want to be from the water..
  22. great fish mate, good effort off the beach...
  23. Nice work mate that's a lovely jew and a top story to go with it.. Good on you both..
