    Flathead!

Give the bait the flick and use plastics. Try any sand flats and work plastics along the sandy bottom, slow retrieve with the odd twitch and lift. I'm sure you will get a few. Are you in a boat or land based???
  7. Nah along the rock cliff face at Patonga going towards Lion Island, and then opposite there around the corner from Flint and Steel..
  8. Hi Raiders, today was the maiden trip for my mates new purchase. He bought a second hand Polycraft 4.5m with a neat little 50hp Honda 4 stroke on the back. The little boat went very well with no problems cutting through the choppy bits as she motored along so smoothly. He (Josh) was very pleased and I thought he had done well too and his Uncle Phil was also impressed with the ride and performance. Anyway today was a bit of a learning curve for Josh, he was keen to learn from a couple of old heads. I took him to a couple of spots for a fish, the first was Patonga and then over to the other side around the Hungry Beach area as well as showing him other spots along the way. It was very cool early but soon warmed up and It wasn't too long before we started catching some flatties. They are still a tad quiet at the moment but we did manage to land 14 ranging in size approx 35-50cms, all fish were released today, all taken on plastics and light weight jigheads. Josh had a bit of fun with a small salmon towards the end of our outing, he was glad to get a couple of fish on his first outing. Anyway that was it today, a bit of a new boat testing and learning day but still very enjoyable and good to get a few flatties again.. Enjoy the pics.. Josh's Polycraft Flattie pose A cool start A little lizard for me little fella released A nice flattie for Phil Josh's first fish from his new boat And a salmon to finish off the day

  19. Hi Raiders, spent this beautiful arvo fishing for blackies. Found a few as well as another pig and they were eating both weed and cabbage again. Kept them in my keeper net till it was time to go home, I despatched 3 blackies and the drummer, all the rest went back in to the briney sea. I took lots of pics to show the arvo, love living in this area. Enjoy all the pics.. My blackfishing buddy Gary My cabbage rig on a NO:6 Pan Gamagatsu Another blackie on the fly gear for Gary My simple blackie gear Kept alive and kicking, easy to release if kept in a clean rock pool
  20. They are fixed, one end is to my 10lb leader (50-60cms) and the other is to my 8lb mainline..
  21. Hi Raiders, I have been asked by a few Raiders about the floats and special sinkers I use. So hear are a few shots of it The floats are made by a mate of mine from Avoca, he also built my rods (2) and makes his own sinkers which are suited to the float. The line I use (8lb) is attached to float using plastic tubing at each end of the float, a simple system but very good, easy to slide the float up or down the mainline to vary depths required to find the fish. The sinkers as you can see have a loop of small diameter wire in the middle which is placed in the mould prior to pouring the lead. All this means everything is balanced and the set up easy.. The pics are not that good but you should get the idea..
  22. Mate firstly look to where the waves are not breaking, this will mean deeper water. Throw in these areas as fish tend to hang around these parts..
  23. Yeah mate the beaches are a tad quiet atm, any of our beaches with a bit of deeper moving gutter water should get you a salmon or two, get your whole or half pilchard out there early morning or late arvo/sunset, you never know what might pop up...
  24. Congrats, To all involved in making this a great website....
  25. Yeah he was gonna go during the lull, but he soon changed his mind when he saw the pics, dropping now (sat morn), might get a fish in later..
