  8. Hey Raiders, Yesterday me and my dad decided to hit Wisemans Ferry, aware of the brewing storm ahead. After going to 5 different shops to find some Aerogaurd we were finally on our way. Driving up the Old Northern Road, RFS had closed it at several sections due to fallen trees. After eventually getting to Wisemans Ferry, we came across another problem, there were wires down on Singleton road. After navigating around them and 4 million trees later we arrived at our spot. 30 mins later and no bites the second big storm came through. We packed up and headed to Wisemans Beach. By now it was already 6:00PM and not much light left. Through in the rods and not long after noticed one of the rods being touched. I picked it up and stuck it but I was to late. As night came I started looking for prawns and out of the wind make out a zzzzzzz noise. I look up and my rod is bending like crazy. I ran and started winding and this thing had some decent wait. After 20 minutes of fighting I bring the beast to shore. My mouth dropped, "a stingray, a $*& stingray!!". You can imagine my disapointment when I was already thinking Jewie for dinner. After that I manged to net a live prawn so I gave it to my dad who put it on his cheapo Kmart rod with a ten year old Shimano reel. 5 minutes of the prawn in the water and he feels a small touch in the line. HE pulls the line and bang ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ its off. I told my dad just to wind the reel like never before, I mean lets be reasonable, there was no way this thing was going to be landed using that crappy rod. As expected the the line snapped 10 seconds later and we were left devastated and wondering what this monster could have been. Any Ideas?? At least I managed this picture of the storm approaching. Cheers, FishingGuy
  9. Mate, as a St John Ambulance Volunteer the best thing to do is to carry a small thermos with warm water in it in, just incase you get stung or bitten. Carrying a Camping or Fishing first aid kit is another good recommendation. Biggest no no is DO NOT remove the stinger of a ray. Calling an Ambulance is your best option. Best thing to do is to complete a First Aid Course. Remember fishing in not worth risking your life for! Cheers, FishingGuy
  10. Haha, good luck either way. Cheers, FishingGuy
  11. From my experience rain doesn't affect the run much but sure that can be argued. I know warmer weather and warmer water is a bit better. Good to see they're about. Cheers, FishingGuy
  12. Hey dale91, Mate Kurnell can produce at times but from what I have heard they're still pretty small there. In Port Hacking you are not permitted to use and type of net or trap (except a landing net) so no prawning there. If you really want to get some prawns you might need to put in some travel time to go to places like Lake Illawarra or The Entrance. I have occasionally seen and caught prawns in the Georges River although if you plan on eating them, best not to take them from here. As for the time, if you can't get out in December and January your chances of catching a decent amount of prawns do decrease a bit. But in saying that, you never know what could happen so I wish you luck mate and report back to us on what you get. Cheers, FishingGuy
  13. Mate it's absolutely disgraceful, good on you for cleaning it up. Cheers, FishingGuy

  15. Hey Raiders, My friends gave me a call at 2:00PM during maths and said they had a spare spot on there boat tomorrow. Only problem they leave at 7:00AM but I have two tennis games which will go to 10AM. Not feeling very happy at the moment! Has something like this happened to someone else? Cheers, FishingGuy

  18. Hey Raiders, While I was down at Bass and Flinders Point on Wednesday I arrived to quite a disgusting sight. Rubbish everywhere! Fishing lines strangling trees, bottles and cardboard everywhere, a dead undersized Bream and grass growing through fishing line. This is completely atrocious!! Out of all people to respect the environment anglers should have the utmost respect for it. The worst part of this is there is sign which says, "It's Your Fishing Spot, Keep It Clean" and the fact there is a bin 20 meters away makes the matter worse. I wasted over 20 mins cleaning the spot when I could have been fishing. And this isn't the first time this has happened last time I came to the spot it was very untidy and there was a dead stingray rotting away in a box. I know and hope that no raiders were leave there spots untidy like this, but I hope if the people responsible for leaving messes like this are reading please stop and pick up your rubbish. It's not mine, the council's or anyone else's responsibility to pick up your rubbish, it's yours and yours only. Cheers, FishingGuy
  19. Nice mate! Cheers, FishingGuy
