  1. Hi Raiders, I was in Bali last week enjoying some time away with the family. I thought I'd give the fishing a go and head out on a charter. I booked a charter and was joined by another Aussie and together we spent six hours jigging, trolling and bottom bashing for a big fat donut......very disappointed that we couldn't even get one fish on board. The charter guys worked hard for us but there was just nothing biting. Very frustrated, I decided I'd have to have another go so I arranged another charter a couple of days later. This time it was just me and four crew, so five rods in the water jigging away madly. We snagged a nice snapper on our second mark and brought it into the boat for a few pics and to keep for lunch. It was a nice little fight and great to see such a big fish. This got me excited for what the remainder of the day might bring, but unfortunately this was it. We had one jig bitten off (the crew reckon it was a barracuda) and also a lure bitten off whilst trolling by something big. So, good fun being out on the water even if the return was only one fish! The Bintang beers helped. The crew were all good and very helpful as well as keen to find me a fish. They reckon March is a better month to fish with GT's aplenty. First time for me doing jigging and at depths between 70 and 120m and 600g jigs it was hard work! I could feel it the day after. Back home now and looking forward to getting out again and wetting a line.
  2. Yeah, well done Sgt on helping out the young kid. Always nice to see young kids bringing in some fish and great that they released it as well, even if no way to bring it home, teaches the catch and release practice early.
  3. Great fish and well done on the release
  4. I'm so unused to actually catching anything, never expected the rod to do that! Where were you when I needed someone who could haul me back into the boat!
  5. I was on the flats not the channel. Tide was so high so plenty of depth to drift on. Unfortunately no rod holders in the hired tinny! Not had much luck in the Wonny so was very happy with those flatties.
  6. Lovely work there and its great to see landbased fishers getting into the big fish...
  7. Hi Raiders, Well I learnt a valuable and expensive lesson yesterday! Managed to get out for a fish either side of the high tide (and it was really high yesterday, bottom of rail bridge pylons at Como covered with water). Hired a tinny from Como Marina and motored up the Woronora to Bonnets Bay to have a crack for some flathead. Not had huge success in the past and had just bought some new SPs to try. Threw out a bait as I drifted and also flicked around with the SP. First up the bait produced and a nice 42cm flattie is in the boat. Feeling pretty happy with myself as my normal fishing buddy captainlukey is always taking the p!ss out of my special chicken! Next cast with the SP and I'm on for another flattie this one at 43cm. Two keepers and nice size for eating so that's dinner sorted. Stayed a little while longer then decided I'd head back to the Georges a go and try for whiting/bream/tailor. Set the boat up and got the burley trail going. I could see lots of good size whiting but they wouldn't take my special chicken or prawns. Threw out a popper and was retrieving it right past them but no interest at all. Very frustrating as they really were a good size. Anyway, decided to put both rods in and soak some bait. Sitting there with one rod in my hand and all of a sudden the other rod bends over and leaps up and out of the boat. I make a despairing lunge for it, but its too late. For a split second I contemplated diving in after it as I watched it sinking down in the the murky depths, but decided that would have been a bit foolhardy! Thought I'd left the baitrunner set so that it would just pay out line, but obviously I hadn't. Not sure what was more frustrating, losing the rod combo or never knowing what it was that ripped the rod out of the boat. So, at around $250's worth of rod plus the hire boat cost they were two very expensive flatties!! At least they tasted great!
  8. Hi Raiders, I'm off on a family holiday this weekend to Bali and want to do some fishing while I'm there. Has anyone else used any charter companies over there and have any recommendations - good or bad? Thanks, fiveflies
  9. What a fantastic trip and great write up. Not jealous at all!!! Well done and must get up there one day and have a go
  10. Great to have you back and fishing again. Girlfriend's car much better than the old public transport!! Beggars can't be choosers when you're land based and you've always had great persistence, so there will no doubt be some fish soon.
  11. Beautiful whiting and a "hands on" approach to landing it!
  12. Great job and lovely work! Haven't managed any success off the rocks myself yet as only just starting up, but love to see these types of returns from others. Keeps me motivated!
  13. Fantastic flattie you got there jenno. I've tired land based along the beach there and off the groynes at Kurnell but apart from an undersize flattie, had no luck. Must try again!
  14. Great bag there linc, nice work.
  15. What a fantastic morning and well done for getting those boys up and onto some great fish.
  16. Great work as always Gianni. Always bringing home a feed!!
  17. What a great morning's session and can only imagine the excitement onboard. Brilliant write up, can feel the adrenaline coming through!
  18. Lovely work again yowie, very envious! Like @NaClH2OK9 said in the prawn thread, you have caught all the fish in the Hacking!!
  19. Better than losing your breakfast over the side!!
  20. Great work and well done in this weather.
  21. Yeah, true. Was a bit lazy I guess and got unlucky !!
