  1. See what your selling dealer recommends and maybe they have a couple of different props you could try and also give Solas a call.

im sure your the not the first to have this issue.

    p.s

    nice looking boat

  2. All the talk of offshore is fine, but from the reading 90% of your fishing will be done in bays, harbour and estuaries and if you venture offshore it wont be on bad days.

I have the 4mm bottom and 2.5mm sides on mine (Stacer 539) and its great for pulling up at beaches in the Hawkesbury.

Mine is pretty stable at rest but being alloy a lot bumpier than a F/Glass, but I just throttle back a bit.

I can carry 7 but for fishing 3 is good and 4 only if 3 know how to fish and not get tangles.

  3. 95 as it’s easy to pull up against at my local BP. Mid range between 91 and 98.

only use BP where possible as be told two strokes and high reving motors which use Shell have varnishing on the plugs earlier and reduce plug life.

Will try BP 91 now the sevice station near me has had new tanks and pumps installed.

  4. BRAND: Evinrude

    HP (model): 115hp V4

    YEAR: 2016

BOAT DATA (length, weight): Stacer 539 Bow rider 5.39mtr Alloy

    YOUR SERVICE INTERVAL: 12mths

    FUEL: 95

HOW LONG HAVE YOU USED THE OUTBOARD (hours on motor): 80hrs in 2yrs

TYPICAL BOATING USE (boating, skiing, fishing etc): Boating, Tubing and Fishing, lots of Dolphin watching and whale watching with the family.

Great on fuel, Had a few issues since new and have now changed dealers, so hopefully they will be sorted after todays service. Biggest issue is having the right Tech to work on the engine, once you get that they are great, has plenty of power and I can do 3 days of cruising and tubing with a family of 5 on board and have about 20ltrs left (90ltr Tank)

Legal to carry 7 but with 6 med to big adults it rips onto the plane and still does 60km at 5800rpm, pretty quiet on idle to med revs after that its at full song which its not ear splitting but not as quiet as my mates Suzuki 4 stroke, but not as noisy like a old 2 stroke either.

    Issues

All my issues stem from a poor diagnosis & oil injection problem,

Plugs and Injectors cleaned at 15hrs for Misfire

15hrs - 70hrs  multiple temp sensor alarms, oil purge alarms, low oil alarms

Changed dealer 70hrs and oil sensor cleaned, oil system primed or winterised and codes wiped, pebble found in cooling port to EMM, thermostat stuck open so engine wasn't reaching temp, No.4 spark plug wasn't indexed. So after that warranty & repair exercise the boat has been running fine,

Dropped it in for its yearly minor service (More for Peace of Mind). Would I buy another Probably not, but . i'll answer this question again in 12mths.

P.s If you do check its mainly the V4 (90HO - 115 - 115Ho) which has issues, the 3cyl version 15hp - 90hp have some of the best reputations going along with the G2 models.

  5. Hi Jon

Do you not eat Leatherjacket, I watched a video on how to clean them and it was so it easy, They did give plenty or repeat warnings about the teeth and the spike.

I have never caught one but figured if it taste as good as they say and was that easy to clean then might give them a try.

  6. HI Andy

Nice going on the tinnie project.

With my old trailer, I wire brushed the crap out of it, flushed inside and out and use a rust converter, then used a Galmet spray (Thanks Work) and since I had a big tin I used some hammer tone Silver on the whole trailer. Came up a treat and lasted the next few years till I sold the whole boat and trailer.

Don't forget to check the underside of the axle, that's where mine had heaps of rust. I also replaces all the hubs, bearings, split pin, dust cap and seals which cost about $90 from memory.

Buy a spare hub seal, I then took the best hub, repacked the old bearings with fresh grease and wrapped in a greasy cloth and put it in a tubberware container and stored in the boat, just in case.

P.s Get a sticker kit for the motor and it will look 100% better than just plain black.

  7. If the boat suits your needs and its just that the cylinder is a little low on compression, you could run it until it stopped especially if I had a Aux motor.

3 mech has said the transom is in good condition, and since you have the Green light I would repower it including the fuel lines and keep enjoying it.

Unless you buy a new boat you could just be buying a similar issue in 2yrs

    Some Questions

Value of boat as it currently sits: How are the electrics and sounder, Seats and overall condition.

    Cost of Repower $

    Cost of new boat $

  8. It’s actually my fault Kiwi,

I moved to a new house demolished the garage and the new Garage hasn’t been built yet which means my boat is on the driveway and on Wednesday the builders were meant to start digging in our backyard for a new pool.

sorry the next 16 weeks are going to be wet, but it will also be the best fishing season on record as I also had a knee reconstruction on Friday and I am out of action for 10 weeks.

  9. I tow my 539 Stacer with my wife's FWD Pathfinder and haven't had a issue, I also find since its FWD the drive wheels are more than likely on clean concrete out of the sand and slime, so traction isn't so much of a issue.

What is the weight of the 440 as mine is about 1400kg loaded and I expect your would be a lot lighter than my bow rider.

I like the idea of the bowrider with some kind of removable cover so you could still camp on it and still use it for protection on those windy/wavey days when there is only a couple of us out the back fishing.

I spoke to my local Boat cover guy about making a like a pop up tent, sort of cover using those flex poles with plastic tabs for the poles to push into around the bow and two on the windscreen along with the press studs to give me a bit of height and keep light rain of me. This wasn't for driving or stopping waves , just some protection from a breeze or light rain if fishing or doing a hair tail night.

Ive always assumed that was deliberate. If water comes over the bow it can drain out the back via the scuppers or bildge pump

That reminds me make sure you flush your bilge with fresh water when washing your boat, that way you know it works and isn’t full of Sand or Salt.

sorry OP for thenthread hijack but we are starting a Bowrider owners and modifiers appreciation group. ?

  12. Agree my kids do the same, the door should go lower.

i haven’t build a casting platform yet, and if i do I will get a cushion made up for it so it’s like a day bed. Which will give some storage underneath.

  13. Same reasons as above

I have the Stacer 539.  (5.4m) and it’s a great all round boat, I’m not a hardcore fisherman and spend most of my time exploring and chasing Doulphins.

it has high side so I can go outside, that same as any centre / side console.

The front is great for lazy days watching the kids swim and my wife likes it for reading when anchored.

if you get a bow cover it makes them even more user friendly as my mate has one and it’s great at deflecting waves when he is out wide and creates a weather barrier when he sleeps on it in The Hawkesbury.

    i like the bow rider

  14. HI David

I did the same thing as you 2yrs ago, I went out to buy a Quintrex 480 or 500 and came home with a Stacer 539 Bow rider. Mainly because of the number of people it fitted, I can take two families since the kids are all under 12yr.

    My Tips>

    1. Get the biggest bought you can handle by yourself, Friends and family never come as often as they think they will.

    2. If its going on holidays with you big is not always best, especially if you go a little off the beaten track

    3. I went the bow rider as it takes more people, mine fits 7 in the rivers and 6 in open water, even then fishing with 4 is the max, I don't and wont go outside unless its a nice day, I'm not that hardcore of a fisherman.

    4. Work out what you want, casual fishing with family leisure days is what I wanted, So I went the Bow Rider, there is advantages to having the run about with the extra room at the back and there is advantages for the bow rider with room at the front, my wife doesn't fish so she sits at the front and reads a book, away from the bait. Kids sit at the front when underway so I can see them, unless its rough.

    5. Get the biggest fish finder screen minimum is 7" but a 9" is better and a good radio to listen to sport, music or the news while floating around having lunch and waiting for that rod to buckle over.

    6. Drive on drive off trailers are great

I use mine in the Hawkesbury / Syd Harbour and the kids fish for maybe a hour, then its exploring and finding beaches to go swimming and bush to explore, We do the same in Port Stephens we leave the crowded Shoal bay beach and cross the bay and find beaches with only a few people or go looking for Dolphins.

Then get the 3 person tube out and everyone has a go.

There is so much you can do with a boat and so many different boats to chose from, but don't panic, whatever you buy you will enjoy and love it.

    @jeffb5.8 has had issues.

I would go a 4 stroke if I got a good trade in price and if it was at least the same horse power or bigger than my 115hp. My boat is rated to 130hp max but I must say the 115hp Etec when running well does power it very well with a top speed of 70km with 2 adults and 3 kids.

  16. Nothing showing on the FishSmart NSW app about it being restricted so I would say that it’s ok to fish there unless there is local signage.

any fish caught there would be fine to eat as it’s East of the Harbour Bridge and close to the heads.

Check out fishing reports from Rose Bay which is nearby for any tips about fishingbthe area.

If you want to flush with warm water in silent mode, and if you can run a hose from an indoor tap, say in the laundry or kitchen, you can buy a fitting from Bunnings for about $5 that replaces the aerator in your tap. You just snap the supplied hose connector on when required and snap on your hose. I have one in our ensuite (for cleaning the shower), one in the kitchen (for cleaning the verandah/watering plants) and one in the laundry downstairs (for washing the dogs etc). ? I don’t think my ETEC has the silent flush option like on the Merc, but if it does, I’d use it only on those late night arrivals at home, followed by a follow up full flush next day.

My 2016 115hp ETEC has the silent flush, I haven't used it but you screw in the adaptor into the back of the motor where the water normally comes out when running.

The silent flushing adaptor I have was taken from the kids multi water bomb filler, each packet has one and it is the correct thread and has no restrictor in it.

The adaptor must not have any restrictors inside and must be 3/8" or more especially if you plan to leave it in when running, it is a weird concept to push water into where it normally comes out and you must not have the hose full bore it only needs 10 - 15 psi to get passed the thermostat by pass and get through the small bleed holes inside the powerhead to flush. That's how the ETEC gets round the thermostat open issue.

The water goes down the leg to the water pump and out the drain holes and through the power head, the motor must be vertical when doing it and left vertical for 5mins to drain afterwards.

you can use Saltaway to help dissolve the salt when doing this silent flush

This is also only for certain sized Etecs something like 40hp to 150hp so check with your dealer before hand.

  18. Going to see A framer who has done work for me before about making up two displays

one for me and one for my wife’s cousin is getting married and I thought since he likes fishing and it was his grandfather as well he also might like a few items in a display as they were very close and went fishing together.

  19. Thanks Wazza and Blackfish for the awesome details and numbers, I guess my wife’s Grandad was a blackfish fisherman.

there is a Capstan reel as I read than on the engraving.

i thinks once I move to my new house I will clean them up enough to look good without making them look like new as I want to hold on to that used look for the display and not to lose the fact they were used by the Grandfather.
