Flatties are a great choice for a first crack with SP. Almost anything works on flatties. Use as light a jighead as possible in the prevailing tide. All the advice from other Raiders here is good. Another tip is to leave the bait behind so that you can only use the SP.

As someone with very fair skin, I can only agree jeffb5.8. Over the years I have had many skin cancers burnt off. I also had a melanoma removed from my neck. I am big on slip, slop, slap.

I absolutely hate being wet and cold. I use thermals top and bottom, a good fleecy jumper, trackpants, and either a coat or rain jacket (worn outside the waders), depending on how cold it is, or if it is a lot of dew or spray. Fingerless gloves and a good Thinsulate beanie are also good in the cold. I use waders which have an adjustable strap at the upper chest region to prevent large volumes of water entering the waders should I fall over. I haven’t used an inflatable pfd as Captain Spanner suggests, but it is a good idea.

Yes the Millennium hull (now called Blade) cuts through the water nicely, and throws the water away from the bow, but with a head wind it still is a wet ride in my Top Ender.

Jighead weight is very dependant in the depth and current of the water you are fishing in, and the species you are fishing for. In general, the lighter the jighead the better, providing it is getting to the bottom, and not just being effected by the current. There are a heap of You Tube clips on fishing SP. It is a very addictive method of fishing. Ask for advise at your local tackle store.

The circuit board, which is a known problem, in my 50lb Minn Kota packed up. The first sign was the motor rotating backwards and forwards about 300°. There was no hesitation from the dealer to have it repaired under warranty. They provide very good warranty and back up service.

G’day Neil It is great to see the increased numbers of cod, and trout cod in the Murray Darling Basin. I was going back to fish the Pirtek challenge in a couple of weeks, but unfortunately that isn’t going to happen now. My mates mainly fish the Murray, from Mulwala to Barmah. Some big cod have been caught on pink hard bodies. One bloke caught 5 cod in one session. They went 80cm, 60cm, plus 3 between 40-50cm. He also lost two big fish at the back of the boat. They have been catching yellas to 51cm in the same water, using Oar Gee lures. Another mate caught 3 good cod in the Main Channel out towards Violet Town a couple of weeks ago.

I have been waiting for your report Neil. 29 outings for 139 Murray Cod, 14 Trout Cod and 2 Carp is a great effort. After last season it must seem like a fishing paradise. My Victorian mates are also reporting good cod numbers, so the floods appear to have made for an explosion of cod numbers.

Can’t comment on bait as I never use it, but soft plastics definitely work at Forster/Tuncurry. Flatties will take almost anything when they are in the mood. Fish the drop-offs for flatties. The stuff you have in your tackle bag should do the job. Hard body and surface poppers work well on bream, particularly around the oyster leases. Whiting have been going on SP worm with a light jighead, and surface poppers, but from my observation, the bait blokes get more whiting than lure anglers. The breakwall is a bit tricky to fish, the tide stops up to 2 hours after the indicated tide times (depending on the difference between the tides). Good jewies are regularly caught on both breakwalls. I am not too sure that the sandbar would be an option for a land based angler. Forster is a great place to fish. Tight lines.

Looks like being a much better cod season than last year Neil. The floods have made a difference.
