  1. You don't need SP's to catch fish in the river, however i would suggest pump Yabbies from maianbar or Grays point they are the better bait to use. Also try and use Yellow tail instead of pilchards, they can be caught at any boat ramp with a small bit of squid or prawn, use them alive they work really well on Kings and Jews, here are some other fish i have caught in the river this year on bait such as Yabbies, Squid and Yellowtail All in a years fishing!
  2. Yea, there is no need for the loop knot, the flatties are coming back aren't they. Well done as i have read some stuff that you have been saying and you haven't had much luck with the soft plastics. I like to use Gama jigheads or TT jigheads.
  3. Hi mate, thanks yea its always nice to get into the fish even though the weather wasn't too pleasant especially when casting light jig heads into the wind. I fish the Port Hacking, the reason why i fish so much is that i do go land based, the spots i have been fishing wouldn't be the best in the system im sure there are spots in the river where fish are aplenty but i fish where i can, just look for the usual hunting grounds for flatties, drop offs, weedbeds and other spots that hold bait. Ok, fish on the quiet days (Weekdays) If your fishing Lb and you want to get into some flatties fish the run out tides over the drop offs, Miainbar and Lilli pilli are good points to start. If you are fishing Maianbar its always good to walk up and down the channel trying to entice a flattie to jump on the hook if using lures, if your using bait Maianbar is the Ports most plentiful source for nippers, fish them unweighted if you can in the last 2 hours of each side of the tide, you will pick up bream, whiting and flathead.
  4. Thanks mate, yea i have an extra spool so i might get some 8lb on it... I fish with those lures, what colours? I know it all depends on the day, but my favs are, smelt, pearl, and bloodworm, they should work fine right? O fair enough, ill have to concentrate on that, because im working it really slow i suppose i need to go finesse with the jigheads? Yes structure is the key, they hold fish, but should i be bouncing the lure off the bottom or fish as i would with bait? (1m above the bottom) Thanks heaps.

Thanks mate i do that, its just i fish 3-4 times a week and with that load i would have thought that i would need some extra care.
  6. Thanks for the reply, does anyone know any LB spots that i can fish for bream with SP's. I do have a boat but not an electric so thats abit hard.
  7. Went out for about 1 hour managed one flattie that went 55cm, caught 3 other tailor to 33cm. Pretty quiet day today.

Should i be applying this to the guides? I was my rod and reel after every trip but was wondering if it would have any effect on the rod/ line?

    Port Hacking

Thanks mate it was, some of the best that you can get in the port hacking, nah i was using a small lead with nippers drifting over the flats.
  12. She went 64cm, i was going to release her but she kept on bleeding so there wasnt much i could do.
  13. Thanks for the tip, yea i think i might have to wait till i get the money for the Stradic to start targeting them, what do you think, are they as hard as bream are on Sp's?
  14. BTW the whiting was caught on Nippers.
  15. Went out today for a 45 min fish on the run out. Fished SP's and metals over the flats, as i got to my spot Salmon and tailor were breaking the surface, dispite this i decided to fish for flatties using SP's. I wasn't getting any hits on my Pink lemonade plastic as i was the other day so i decided to fish with my favourite 'pearl white' 3 inch bassminnow as i was working this a school of salmon started to bust the surface in front of me, so as i see them i cast my SP into them. Straight away im on. After 5 mins on 4lb this is the result My new 1000 stradic and t-curve really stood up today.
  16. Nah that water is ankle deep i got her in about 1.2 m of water so yea its not deep at all, you find that they do feed at your feet.
  17. Thanks mate, yea it was great fun, and i reckon catching that one again would be way more satisfying than 3 flattie meals! These days i release all fish bar the odd one as i like to catch them again and fishing flatties on SP's can be easy so i could easily overkill them. Thanks mate, it really was like a dream session, however i have been catching consistently this season they can't be too hard. If one plastic doesn't work vary it change colours, think outside the square, check out spots before you fish them, look for baitfish, weedbeds, current flows and drop offs. Best of luck.
  18. My best, released for the record its 80cm worthy of a place. 64cm Salmon 45cm whiting Plz put them in the record books
  19. Thats fine, every day i find they go for something else. I.e Baitfish hang at the drop off, so i try and match the hatch, however doesn't always work. So far in this particular spot i have used, 3' Smelt Scales Bassminnow 3' Bloodworm Bassminnow 3' Pearl Bassminnow 3' Pink lemonade Bassminnow 3.5' Firebait in natural 75mm Squidgie black and gold fish. So its really a hard task to find out what the fish like and where they are sitting, of course once you get one, then i find that i get 2.3.4.5.6 Now im practicing C & R so if you happen to come across a 60 cm model with a ' Pink lemonade' plastic in its mouth you know its mine!
  20. Thanks man! I waded in, but im sure you could snare a few if you drifted the flats with a yak or something. Try places like Lilli Pilli, Maianbar, and Swallow rock ( Grays Point)
  21. Went out this morning at 8:30 to try my new combo ( Stradic 1000 and a T- Curve bream spin) i was fishing the run out tide on the drop off. Lures used 3" Bassminnow in Pearl white 3.5" Firebait in natural 3" Bassminnow in Pink lemonade I finished fishing at 10:30 with a total of 3 Flathead (all released) Biggest went 67cm. 60, 47cm The only colour that the flathead would touch were the Pink Lemonade, they go really well. Also there was a lot of surface action taking place, salmon were hitting the whitebait, shame i couldn't christen my new combo on one of them!
  22. Very nice, the port hacking is fishing very well now, don't wanna ruin it for you but i did land a 45cm one 1.5 weeks ago at lilli pilli. Boy do they go hard, almost like a small jew.
