  1. We definitely fish the same location, haha! Keep in touch!
  2. That's right, light tackle is important for one to enjoy the fight with these guys.
  3. Congrats on the success with metals Mike, I haven't caught a leaping bonito before, beautiful looking fish. Yes, change to singles, I have trust issues with trebles.
  4. Quite the opposite for me, haha! I have been fishing in Sydney for nearly a year now and seriously have some luck problems with kingfish, probably because I fish the afternoons mostly and not first light? I have pulled quite a few decent kingies from a boat but landbased-wise, only a single rat. Nearly every time I pull the big guns out with the stickbaits and poppers, I only get salmon. Have not even had the chance to lose a decent king landbased... About fishing together someday, sure thing, maybe we could learn some stuff from each other.
  5. With the warm water is pushing in hard, the small pelagics are have become more common over the last two weeks, with small to medium sized mac tuna, bonito, leaping bonito and frigate turning up. I guess longtails won't be far behind, dream big, right? These are some fish I caught this week, bonito and mac tuna caught on shore jigs and the yakkas using sabiki. Yakkas (horse mackerel, "aji" in Japanese) make beautiful sashimi but are grossly underrated and usually neglected. From a culinary point of view, I prefer them over kingfish.
  6. My technique only works good for small pelagics like bonito and mac tuna, but big kings not so much, haha!
  7. Congrats on the Kingie! Great report, and thanks for sharing!
  8. Nice catch and good report, thanks for sharing.
  9. Good report, thanks for sharing!
  10. Ah, fan bellies, I remember catching these when I was a kid, bizarre looking fish.
  11. Yeah, we took turns backing the boat, but the fish weren't on the bite, maybe too strong a current puts them off... No run no fun, Too much run also no fun... I hooked the stripey on the drop, around 30 meters. I had it on the surface within half a minute, but it was still very strong at the side of the boat. It took a minute or two to gradually wear it down and finally the net man can go for it. I hear Port Kembla is a good place to spin, thanks for the tip. Might give it a try, as well as Kiama, though it's a bit of a drive down there.
  12. Yeah, every now and then, probably going to head south and try my luck soon.
  13. That's a good size, very delicious too.
  14. Went out to the reefs today and found some good patches of fish on the sounder but the current was very strong, it was very hard to slow jig in such conditions with the line being at a very large angle. After lots of hard work, only managed a few small longfin perch. Luckily this stripey nailed my jig on the fall and saved me from a doughnut. Will probably focus more on landbased for now...
  15. Happy New Year everyone! May the fish be with you. XD

  17. Decent bag you got there, nice!
  18. Thanks for the report, have been waiting for these guys to come back for a long time...
  19. Yeah, I think at least one is a fellow raider, though I am the only one there who is always bragging about my catches here, haha!
  20. Thanks Scatchie! Haha, it was more of a gathering of fishos from our Wechat group really. We had plenty of Coral trout, ruby... so saved the trevally for later.
