  1. Hi, +1 to the above NZ show, being the Extreme boat dealer for NSW I have some inside knowledge of the "Big Angry Fish" show and it is one of the better shows and I think the boat they use, the Extreme 650 Gameking is the best hull money can buy. Keep an eye out in the local fishing mags for some write-ups on Extreme boats. Cheers, Huey.
  2. Hi, yes I stock and sell Lowrance, as well as Simrad, Humminbird, Raymarine and Furuno-pretty much them all and as I say to people all the time, depending on budget one brand maybe better than another brand at a certain time. It is forever changing with marine electronics. Cheers, Huey.
  3. Hi, by the "book" that would be what some manufacturers say and some dealers will charge that because you make ALOT of money out of servicing these engines. As for what it really takes I will not go into that here but that is steep is all I will say. PM me if you want more info. Cheers, Huey.
  4. Hi Leo,in what way? If sounder readings are not what you expected changing the frequency setting can help as can getting out of auto mode and adjusting manually. Also have you tried running the transducer at different height and angles because that does affect returns. If you have tried all that and do not like it fair enough but in this price range this is about as good as it gets for a 2D and DI combo and that was my point about comparing this unit to ones further up the price scale. Cheers, Huey.
  5. Hi Leo, yes mate if money is no object there are better units around-that is for sure, but comparing say the best 7 inch colour combo at present being the new Simrad NSS7 Evo 2 with structure scan at around $2,400 to the Elite-7 HDI at around $800 is not an apples to apples comparison. I used an Elite-7 HDI the other day on a new rig going out and it was OK for what it costs. Cheers, Huey.

    Tinny Help

Hi, as the guys have said licence is all to do with speed and it is grey area because just because you may be pulled over at a time doing under 10 knots, if the boat is capable of doing more than you can be fined if you do not have a licence. That is why when we set up hire boats we have to restrict them to under 10 knots at WOT. Also that boat will need to be registered, which is to do with HP. Cheers, Huey.
  7. Hi, in the $1K and under price range the two to pick from are the Lowrance Elite-7, especially while on sale and the new Raymarine Dragonfly7. If the budget can stretch a little and you want SI too the run out sale on the Humminbird 798SI are hard to beat for both DI and SI. As you will find out there is always something better for a little more money. Cheers, Huey.
  8. Yes, sure have mate and once you have used a modern colour combo unit with DI say like the Elite-7 you can not believe how even in a few years they have improved. Cheers, Huey.
  9. Hi, 3D has not been around since Humminbird had the units many moons ago. If you are talking about Down Imaging and Side Imaging then yes worth every cent in my opinion and now pretty much all the brands have them and the cheapest is around $650 for a 5 inch DI only and traditional sonar colour combo upto "sky's the limit" Tell me the budget you have and I will tell you want the best unit is in that price bracket for today because as with any electronics it is always changing and what is the best and best value today could be different in a week or two time. Cheers, Huey.
  10. Hi, a can of worms, but as simple as it gets deeper water capabilities in 2D-all else being equal. Great prices on both versions at present and the best unit in this new price bracket. Cheers, Huey.
  11. Hi, as mentioned it is all dollars and when he went from the white engines it was due to the marketing budget was not large enough to keep him and ET (and others) on board all at the same time so they had to let someone go so he went to black engines, for a very short time and yes I see he is now with grey engines because perhaps they had a better deal for him-it is all business with these guys. Cheers, Huey.
  12. Hi, a new piston and some rings / gaskets and no reason why this engine will not be good for many years. Around the 115HP would be about the max and good luck finding someone good for about the same money as repairing this engine. I bet it would not be hard to hone and clean up that cylinder. As for the VRO (which is a term that has not been used for many years-OMS is more accurate) they disconnect because most people in this industry do not have clue how this works. Ask where you took it to as to what he thinks caused this because I bet he will most likely blame the oiling system and if so walk away. Cheers, Huey.
  13. Hi, the genuine Telwater supplied rigging hose that your boat would have had from new is $10/Mt and we have it in stock. Cheers, Huey.
  14. Hi, the second and third last letters of all J/E outboards since 1980 till 2012 have used the word INTRODUCES to let you know the year model. In your case, those letters being ET does. as you say, mean your engine is a 1993 model. Yes as you also pointed out the model will indicate many other things too. Cheers, Huey.
  15. Hi, no problem and for the home handyman it is easy to replace a control cable. Cheers, Huey.
  16. Hi, you pull back the collar and then it will come off the ball joint. Cheers, Huey.
  17. Hi, we are at 1131 Pacific Highway Cowan. To remove the cylinder head and inspect will be less than $100. As for any repairs impossible to say what that might cost without knowing the damage. Cheers, Huey.
  18. Hi, got nothing to do with reeds and very easy to remove cylinder on that engine and see what the bores look like. My bet would be water in that bottom cylinder (if by fourth you mean no.4 cylinder) and you maybe able to give a good clean up and get the compression back up. If you find signs of water ingestion then you will need to find out where it comes from too so it does not happen again. Cheers, Huey.

    15 hp parsun

Hi, yes no problem doing a boatcode. Cheers, Huey.
  20. Hi, it will be suitable to "in the harbour" use and with common sense be fine on most days-as we all know some days you would not want to go out in any trailer boat. Cheers, Huey.

    15 hp parsun

Hi, most Chinese outboards are made by the one company and trust me I have seen where they are made and it is impressive. They would of built more old tech powerheads last year than pretty much any other company and not quite right about who they copy-it changes depending on the HP and very much like the Japanese did back in the day-they just copied OMC designs. We choose to stock and sell the Vortex range, same as Parsun, but are imported by the biggest company in the Oz trailer boat scene, being Telwater. What that means to me and the end customer is the 3 year warranty means something and at present there are about 10 Chinese brands coming down here but none have the backing of Vortex. We have sold around 80 in the last two odd years and have not had one "let go" for a better word and as mentioned buying a new carby 15HP Vortex for less than what some people try and get for second hand is a no brainer due to the warranty. Do not let any one tell you their basic carby 15HP outboard runs better or worse than the next-they are all pretty much the same and the Vortex is where the price of the other carby old tech engines should be and is the main reason Telwater decided to do this-you guys were getting rip off by the other old tech manufacturers with what they charge down under for a new carby outboard. Long story short I would not have a problem using a Chinese outboard if you are just wanting a basic carby engine and there is only one brand I would use and that is what we choose to stock. Cheers, Huey.
  22. Hi, has been discussed many times and has always been the same on all outboards since the early days. Wing nuts by nature are done up by hand and they will vibrate loose and cause many problems, from expensive parts needing replacing to fires on board. If you have wing nuts get rid of them and fit nylock nuts that need to be done up with a spanner and will not vibrate loose.
  23. No problem and you can be added to the list of problems caused by wing nuts on batteries and you will need the charging system checked to determine the parts needed to fix the problem-having a faulty regulator will not stop an outboard so perhaps you have damaged the ignition system as well-that will add up quick. I sure hope you get rid of those wing nuts and who ever fitted the engine should be shot for fitting them.
  24. Hi, your outboard does not have an alternator like a car that is driven via a belt. The charging system is made up of a Stator and regulator and you will need to see what the charging system is putting out via a DVA meter to see if within specs. If you have wing nuts on the battery then a very good chance the regulator is gone and around $250 gets a new one of these. Cheers, Huey.
  25. Hi Mate, hard to say what it might cost but yes if both the helm and cable need to be done that is about what those two parts cost and then there is the labour to do the job and trust me some boats require the engine to be removed so that the old and new steering cable can be installed in the tilt tube. Then some engines require the tilt tube to be reamed to allow the new cable to work freely. That is why it is very hard to quote any job without seeing the boat. Being a Raider you will get trade prices on parts so we will look after you. Cheers, Huey.
