  1. Hi Mate, good points and yes time will tell and do not worry once I get one of these G2's you are more than welcome to experience one for yourself and make up your own mind then. Yes the 557 is thinking outside the box and from what I have heard they are impressive engines too, just doubt we will see any down under, which is a shame because I would love to try one of these too. BRP have plans for bigger but I think the next platform will be smaller due to the 150HP market being so big over there-they sell 150HP's like we sell 15HP's. Cheers, Huey.
  2. Hi, no not at all, as mentioned there is a 10% variance allowed and trust me one 200HP, say a 4 cylinder 200HP, will not have anywhere near the performance of this new G2 we are discussing here. It has been this way for many many years and a classic example is the 90HP class where back in the carby days one brand had a V4 platform where the others rang I-3 and the performance difference then and today with these carby engines is alot. Cheers, Huey.
  3. Hi, I agree with Iceman, they are great fishing platforms and not many if any Aussie builder build them anymore because the US bass boats are in another league. The brand mentioned like Ranger etc are fantastic boats and just last Sunday I got to run in a Ranger Walleye boat and that down under would be a perfect style of fishing boat for our waters. The boat itself weighed just shy of 2.3T(I know I had to ask the driver if that was right-he reckoned it was 5500lbs as it was loaded) and even on a bad day on lake Michigan this thing felt rock solid and with the engine one the rear the turn of speed was something to experience. Well worth doing some homework on a new or even second hand one from over there. Cheers, Huey.
  4. Hi Whaler, on some of your points you drag up the golden oldies-the service, in saltwater or fresh water, is 3 years or 300 hours on G1 and longer on G2, says so in the latest owners manuals-of course some people like to say can not happen and I say to them if that is the way you feel then service that engine sooner if you want -it is their engine and no one is forcing them to go that long but most miss the point, in that you get the warranty and you do not have to do yearly services. We have been doing this over 50 years and I have driven them all and this engine is on another level so you should try and get a run in one when they come down under. The steering is alot quieter than the Verado-yes I drove them back in the day at the Merc Expo when they first came out and have driven them since and they still whine. This new design is silent with the engine running and the transom assembly on the engine DOES not move an inch when running at big speed in rough water-saw it with my own eyes on the trip Scarab at insane speeds for the condition last Sunday. As for fuel burn, again saw it with my eyes on the display and at certain RPM it was even better. As for CO, if you do not worry about it then your call but us humans do not cope well with high CO in the air and more so with the old station wagon effect at low speeds where these fumes get sucked back in to the cockpit-at the end of the day the G2 mets and far exceeds today's standard and future ones. As for the DVD, it would not surprise me to see another one and nothing stopping the other guys coming out with their own if they think it is smoke and mirrors and the "average" boater, the one that might be buying his/her first boat or are not very mechanically minded like to see this sort of thing. Why do you think Merc or Yamaha have not done their own and again I for one have been on boats powered by the different technologies and just like in the DVD, one brand was able to plane the boat when it was just running while the other brand was not-no smoke and mirrors there because both were propped to hit the right WOT RPM when both engines were running. Have have the videos to prove it if you ever want to see them. As for larger ones, they have a STRONG 300HP at present that would holds it own well against the other 350HP's with less weight and even in the States there is not much of a market for 400HP's, but that said talking to one of the two guys directly involved with the new powerhead, adding two more cylinders is not hard due to their lost foam technology. As for price, the market with any product will determine that and when you factor in all the features of G2 like the displays, the steering with load sensitive steering that actually tightens up the faster you are going or the operator can adjust, the controls with the brilliant I-Trim-that actually trims in itself in tight turns, the warranty and service costs then it is very good value compared to the other guys. I agree this new engine has raised the bar which is good for any industry and it will be interesting to see what the other guys do over the next few years to come out with a totally new platform. Keep your eyes out and I will have a demo engine late this year and you would be more than welcome to come for a spin with me and then, only after trying this engine for yourself, would be able to make an educated opinion on if it is a good engine or not. I guess this is just one person opinion and you can take it or leave, but I have been lucky enough to be around boats ALL my life and have driven them all and this new engine exceeded my expectations by a fair margin. Cheers, Huey.
  5. Hi, no problem but I disagree with that last statement, but everyone has their own opinion on what they believe is better. Cheers, Huey.
  6. Hi Daryn, the second figure will be much closer to what you should expect once you get the new girl. Enjoy it and let us know what she goes like when you get it. I would not listen to people saying she will only 25 Knots. Cheers, Huey.
  7. HI Mate, they will but not in immediate future and the current 60HP is a solid performer already for good fuel burn numbers, emission outputs and performance-all plus cash-back at present, high performance SST props and lowest ownership costs. Cheers, Huey.
  8. Hi, can not comment on that but as per the EPA testing done for the marine industry the Evinrude brand of outboard is the cleanest when the HC+NOx and CO are included and why they are the only brand of outboard to win an award from the EPA. All modern engines are clean and the Gen1 are up there with the best and the new G2 taking emissions to another level. If you want to learn send me your email via a PM and I can send you all the literature you like about this subject and even the name of the guru in the States that knows all about emissions for the marine industry. I could bore people here with all the details but at the end of the day the brand we are talking about is the cleanest without sacrificing performance or fuel economy-a win-win situation for a boat owner. Cheers, Huey.
  9. Hi, DI is Direct Injection and in some form or another has been used in combustion engines for a very long time. In the outboard game 1996 saw them first and this new G2 design is the first block to be built to suit DI and that is why E-TEC G2 gets the best fuel economy(and I do not care what other brand you want to compare it too), the best emissions by a long way with very low CO emissions, like it's G1 brother- CO does not do anything to the environment, but us humans do not like CO and you maybe shocked what some brands and technology pump out at idle. All this plus performance that until you experience it you will not believe it and I have driven fast boat all my life but this new G2 is better than any production engine made. Yes we will see smaller HP engines, do not ask me the time frame because I honestly do not know but the current range of outboards are already leaders in most field, especially total accountable emissions, the two G1 and G2 will be side by side for a few years yet. As for starboard/starboard block design, simply put it is a new way of getting rid of the exhaust, because all mechanical devises using pistons have a thust side and on a old design V block the port bank had the pistons have this thrust and exhaust on the same side so a lot of stress to deal with. By making the exhaust like this new design the performance, fuel economy, noise, emissions, longevity and reliability is very much improved and JUST one of the many things that this new engine has that the rest of the industry does not. Going from the first generation DI, that is the one before E-TEC, to the current platform saw big improvements so going from E-TEC G1 to G2 the improvements are huge too and the rest of the industry are around G1 figures in terms of economy and emissions. If you are wanting to buy a larger HP outboard in the next 6 odd months my advise would be at least wait till these hit our shores and you need to experience these and if you still want to fit another brand of outboard then no problem but if you buy another outboard before at least trying these you would be foolish. Cheers, Huey.
  10. Hi, as usual some people bring up other brands when discussing a topic like this. The simple facts are, and I have used all brands and all technologies, and just got back from the States the E-TEC G2 IS the cleanest, most fuel efficient, the most powerful, cleanest rigging-you have to see what they have done, the best to use with in built power steering and I-trim, the cheapest to own and operate (yes it is a 5/5/5) and I am not worried about service cost because we have been doing so long we get plenty of service work and as I have always said when people bring this topic up, usually non E owners, if you want to service it yearly your call, you just do not have to and you get the best warranty. These new 200-300HP engines will blow anything else out of the water and being the first engine designed from day one for DI with is starboard/starboard design it is a gamechanger-simple as that. The others still use things like transom brackets from basically when Ole Evinrude devoloped the first outboard over 100years ago and really not alot is new from these guys in terms of mehcanically advancement-they are basically automotive designs tried to be made as an outboard and they are all the same really. The new G2, whether you are fan or not (and I for one can not believe how some people have all these ideas without even experiencing or even seeing one), they are innovate and will be the engine of choice if you are open minded. There is to be an Oz release in early November and shortly after that I will have demo unit to come and see and even try if you are serious and I for one like the look, yes at first I was in two minds, but after seeing this engine and running them on about 15 different styles of boats (they had about 25 boats in the water) I have no problem recommending these new engine and can not wait to get one myself. If you have any questions, aside for the usual my brand does this-if you want to learn more about this totally new outboard then ask and I will answer. Cheers, Huey.
  11. Hi, impossible to quote without seeing the engine but as I said there is a lot to getting the swivel shaft out and then you do not list serial number so hard to quote on the price of the part. Labour, if it goes according to plan and no bolts are seized, which can happen with a Merc, would be around $500 and parts on top of that. I do not understand what you a are trying to describe either because the swivel shaft goes thru the stern bracket and has a yoke on the bottom that then holds the mid-section on. The only way to accurately quote on such a job would be to see the extension of corrosion and even then things can pop up when you start to dismantle the engine to get to this part. Cheers, Huey.
  12. Hi, not sure how replacing a corroded/rusty swivel arm "would do more damage to the engine replacing this part" that does not make sense and yes I agree it will could be surface rust and a clean and re-paint is all that is needed, but I have seen this part break too and then it will not only do damage to the engine, but to the boat and also possibly to the operator if it fails when up on the plane and you loose steering. To say it will be fine without seeing the extent of the rust is a big call to make.
  13. Hi Anthony, yes our site is down at present, the joys of websites-you pay people to do work for you and then it does not work but they claim it is not their fault. Our micro site on The Tradingpost site has is the best site for what boats we have in stock both new and second hand. You can to PM me here or even call if you have a question. Our so called "IT" guy is meant to be working on it. Cheers, Huey.
  14. Hi Steve, replaced many of these and it is a big job. The powerhead, midsection and gearbox will need to be removed to allow you to replace the swivel arm out of the transom bracket. If you have some mechanical skills and an oxy (there maybe seized bolts) it could be something you could tackle yourself. Cheers, Huey.
  15. Hi Gaz, yes I know a little but all will be revealed once we hit Milwaukee. The marketing department, like most big companies, like to talk things up but from what I know technically about this new platform the reality might live up to its hype. One thing for sure is the current range is going very well for us with an engine that ticks a lot of boxes so I think we will be able to get these engines for a while still and due to our location I doubt we will see these new engines until the after the US demands has been met. The simple facts are that is the biggest market in the world and they sell 150HP outboards like we sell 15HP. Down under we just do not have the volume and the amount of dealers and engine sold in that market is amazing-from all brands. I was told last time I was there at HQ about 4 years ago, during the GFC BRP lost around 1500 dealers due to closures, to put that in perspective, the Australian marine industry would be lucky to have about 500 trailer boat dealers. Cheers, Huey.
  16. Hi, the oil topic comes up a lot and the average user is going to spend about $100 on XD-100 per year, even less if you do less than the average 40-50 odd hours. If you buy it in bulk too it will be cheaper again. On one side you buy a G bottle of oil and on the other side you need to drain and replace the oil/filters and trust me they are about the same costs per year. Cheers, Huey.
  17. Hi, from what I know I am pretty excited to see this in the flesh in Milwaukee in a couple of weeks. BRP do not like to follow and offer what everyone else does-they like to innovate and are always looking to offer the end user the best in any of the fun things they make. Cheers, Huey.
  18. Hi, the AE60 is an older aerial. They know have the aerial base and whip separately-different P/N's. The right new design one would cover the old holes and be a better system. PM me if you would like more details and pricing at present, Cheers, Huey.
  19. Hi, different aerial will be needed. You can get cheap ones or good ones and the GME GX600 and the aerial is the one I would fit and if you post a picture of the current aerial I am sure you will be able to get a VHF the same. A band splitter can be used to get Am/FM and VHF or 27 meg with the same aerial. Good prices on the GME stuff at the moment. Cheers, Huey.
  20. Hi, if you want 2D then yes you will need another transducer and the Airmar transducer from the Furuno will not connect to the HDS unit. Cheers, Huey.
  21. Hi, you should speak to Gary at Seriously Stainless and see if he can help. As mentioned with that Lancer you will want to be careful how much weight you add up high. Cheers, Huey.
  22. Hi turtleman, your engine is a very straight forward engine so should be simply to diagonise the problem. We can look at it for you and let you know what we find and Cowan is about 1/2 drive from home at Strathfield so not that far to come. Cheers, Huey.
  23. Hi, if you have gone to the Cal2 and added the fuel tank capacity and done the calibration via the best way-being the empty to full way then yes the sender could be at fault. If you can readily access the sender you can check it but if the sender is working the analogue gauge I doubt the sender is the problem though. Cheers, Huey.
