Great report Mike, enough fish to keep you interested and your 'eye in'. They reckon that tackle shop is the largest in the world (certainly Australia's largest)- first time I went in there I swear I heard Angels dropping from the ceiling playing harps. Promised Derek if I win lotto I'm going to take him in there for a full day shopping- you need a full day to check everything out, it really is mind blowing for lovers of fishing/tackle

Hi Bob although this isn't in relation to Berowra specifically we used to do a fair bit of fishing for Mullet, both as teenagers and later when land based game came into the picture. When fishing for Mullet in the upper reaches of the Georges River (particularly around Landsvale) we used to use small Luderick style floats, set about 4ft deep with the lead (sheet-lead) about a foot above a size 8 bronzed treble and fresh white bread squeezed on to almost hide the treble completely. The float would go up and down a couple of times before disappearing totally and we'd strike hard. If you fished shallower you got much smaller Mullet. We used to stand on old car doors in the water (it was really muddy) and consistently catch plenty of good sized Mullet. Quite often when there were about 8-10 young blokes fishing there in the afternoons and you had to watch for flying floats as some of the common ones used were aluminium stemmed and became 'missiles' that often stuck in the muddy bank behind where we stood. Closer to home, around the bay at Fivedock we fished same way, same depth with the only difference being a size 6 suicide was used instead of the treble as these were kept alive for use as bait the next day, whereas the Landsvale ones were caught for fillet bait. Around the Harbour we've caught plenty on mince while Yakka fishing around Leichhardt and bacon fat with the rind on is also extra good sometimes. Of a night we've found they go for the floating bread but they don't like getting too close to the boat/wharf. @kingfish101 is probably the guy to chat with re Berowra Mullet

Nice bag of fish as usual. Those pick-handles (couta ) aren't bad bait- they just smell a bit. Good feed of Flatties and personally, like fresh Tailor on the bbq

My first lure caught fish was also a Flathead caught on a 'Wonder Wobbler'- I remember well, being told it was a fluke to catch a Flathead on a lure but had a complete change of mind when I caught another one on the same lure in the same spot a week later- that was 50yrs ago. There were probably more of these lures produced than almost all other lures in Australia's fishing history, 'Wonder' produced chrome, gold, blue and many other colours including 'multi-colour' and their main competitor was 'Alpha' who produced 'Alpha Wobblers' that were virtually identical, with the exception that Alpha added a small, harder plastic red 'tag' that sat on the rear split-ring adjacent the hook eye- same as those pictured in Mike's original post above-, which 'fluttered' independently and was marketed as the 'advantage over other similar lures'. Virtually every fisher had one in their tackle box and if the call came 'they're getting them on lures' it was the go-to first choice for many. The abundant east coast Tailor population of pre 1980's was always vulnerable to these types of lure. FrankS kindly made me some out of Stainless and they are way better than the original version

That's terrible Mike- hope you heal up quickly- getting all the broken edges of the oysters out is a bugger, reckon most fishers would have similar (but not as bad) experiences with oysters. Hope you get revenge and eat a few

Hot out of the oven! Fresh batch includes mega chip- 185mm long (7.5inch) -almost trolling size? Plus the rare and potentially deadly 'Green Chip' - as kids we were warned of the dangers of green chips- could they be the next killer? Chips shown in their natural habitat of white fish-shop paper

Thanks Pete- I'll get some down to you shortly- I only used jewellery 'memory wire' for the wire forms and although stainless it wouldn't be genuinely rust resistant or very strong. The only genuine wire forms I have found were in the USA and postage from there is a killer. More research to do now! Love the full monkey, still laughing!

Already have three different configurations worked out- 'Bent Banana', 'Slow Pitch' and 'Half Banana' which could be the surface popper version? Then there's always the 'half peeled' skirt type to consider, mmm leave it with me and watch this space in a week or two

Am currently waiting for the yellow pigment to be delivered which of course will make a consistent colour instead of all the variations so far- might be a week or two to get the banana happening, but I'll let you know when I have some ripe and ready to go😁
