took a trial run this arvo..33knots flatout with 17pitch..revs out to fast need 19pitch..taco not workin properly yet.still sorting harness...jumps out of the hole so going up in pitch should be fine..rick

well I picked up my motor yesterday ..pulled the 60hp off this arvo..put 90hp on transom resikaflexed round bolt holes and connected all wiring..for reasons unknown my throttle and gear cables are different in length than the ones that were on the 90hp..i have to swap the cables over in the throttle housing then im ready to test run her ..hopeful to give run on wed arvo..will put fotos of before and after up tomorrow ..rick

fished the creek for six hrs on sunday..beautiful spot..clean sand bottom heaps of nipper holes..seen heaps of flatties most were only following the sps..caught a few small fish a couple of bream thrown in and seen a couple of absolute crocs layin on the bottom that would have pushed a metre..warmer weather will see us back there for another crack..we put in at gumma and worked downstream..will try upstream next time..cheers for the info dave..I ended up finding success with gulp crabbys worked slow..small clear poppers worked on bream...rick

if noreaster blowing use coalshaft..if southerly blowing use eastern corner of long beach on north west side of island..when you go in go right up into corner past the mooring bouy and you can put anchor on reef front and back..its shaped like a cove..rick

ive caught flathead on weed when fishin for blackfish..they are like bakers they hit things that move..the silhoute of fly or weed looks like small fish..rick

this thread is about anchoring in a sheltered bay at broughton..ITS SHALLOW..ITS PROTECTED..TWO ANCHORS FRONT AN BACK IN MY MIND ARE COMPULSARY WHILE SLEEPING,, forget your spot lock forget hangin off one really good anchor use two anchors and sleep peacefully...end of conversation for me..rick

I find one anchor doesn't suit all areas some of the nasty reef I fish I wouldn't be game to drop a coupla hundred bucks into the rocks an ledges..my mooloolaba picks cost me bout ten bucks..fotos in previous anchoring threads check search..havnt lost one in years..i carry two .one on short rope for shallows..one on long rope for deep..and a sand anchor..i only have 4.8 vsea but I make room..ive seen sarcas lock into reef and have to be cut off..ive dived and recovered a few.ive also found a few with ten mtrs of rope attached having been cut off cause they couldn't get it off..i think I will stick to my system with a ball an clip and pull loose floating rope in rather than pulling by hand or using a winch..each to their own is the saying..imo theres no one fits all in anchoring..rick

I run a 17''pitch prop on the 60hp get 30knts flatout with two people..19 pitch I drop700 revs no good..90hp im hopin to run 19 pitch..should jump out of hole and give24knts cruise for less than 4000 revs.so I should use same or less fuel..if I use a bit more it wont bother me cause I have the extra oomph when needed..the vseas travel beautiful in a following sea but the 60 is sometimes lacking when trying to climb out of a trough ,I shouldn't have that prob anymore ..rick

as flickn said could be stripping guide is closer to reel or smaller creating more friction..knots travelling thru smaller guides...with small jigheads you shouldn't be overloading the blank...one blank may be a fast taper the other mid to slow taper..i use either a 1.8 solid tip rod or a 2.1 carbon rod for cod and have basically same distance with both throwing hardbody cod lures an spinnerbaits...I wouldn't be too concerned but you can always go heavier on your jighead to get more distance...rick
