  1. nice .never fished dubbo but might put it on visit list.rick
  2. you can fish sps on mono..braid just gives you more feel..one of mates is old school in some ways he only uses mono and catches plenty of flatties..my advice is to just get out there and have a crack..rick
  3. I have a vsea and the easiest way of anchoring is to use a bridle attached to your tie off bollard on bow that is long enough to come round and into your boat..then tie your anchor rope to this and leave slack to hang off bow..when retrieving just drive forward to the left of the rope and pikup bridle and anchor rope and retrieve from inside boat..that way you can anchor and retrieve by yourself and never get wet out on a bow..if in deeper water attach a float with anchor clip and just drive forward over anchor till float hits end of rope then pull in floating rope and anchor..no struggling to pull heavy anchor from depths..rick
  4. a boat off port stephens this arvo was calling other boats over to a large amount of net floating in the water in 250mtrs outside the carpark..apparently surrounded by hundreds of large dollies of 15/ 20kgs..there were large marlin chasing dollies..over the next day or two it will be off Sydney..for anyone interested at 3.00pm it was at 33.05 .200 /152.25.200..i spoke to the boat on ch80 and the skipper said there was only a 1/2 knot current to the south so if you can guess the drift or want to go looking..my guess is it will be in between middle and southern canyons out of Swansea or norah in the morning..im not able to go looking tmrw so im devoed...hopefully someone can find them in the next day or two..rick
  5. nice...wot was the creek like for launching
  6. not a great deal of air footage but after freezing shot it has fixed pectorals..little black..rick..congrats
  7. what type of reel is it make..model..i have heaps of spools I may have one that fits..rick
  8. a rail mount as far back as u can get would be ideal..if u mount it in front of the rail midships and fish with arm swung out at 90 deg will also work but remember to drive straight or only turn towards the rigger line or you risk running over your line..rick
  9. glad u got it sorted mate happy boating...rick
  10. good stuff neil..incredible how addictive them little green buggers are hey...rick
  11. it all depends on where u fish and what u fish for...blackfish respond to burley well bream also..i burley on the beach when fishing for jew and nearly every one I get has burley in its gut..key factor is current or water movement of some kind to disperse the burley and make a "trail" for the fish to follow to your offerings on a hook..rick
  12. thanks mate looks really good have to put it on the visit list..rick
  13. if you fish the entrance stick with small sps..55 wrigglers or paddle tails..i wasted a day recently stickin with big 100/125 sps trying for a big fish and got donuts..rick
  14. nice one what area are the caves ive never heard of them..rick
  15. listened to ccgf skeds today not many marlin a few sharks with one boat still fighting at 5.30...port stephens boats raised a few out wide but guys were complaining water was too hot wide of carpark and were heading in closer looking for cooler water..reports of 26.8/27.2 off the shelf...water is 23.5 up near big gibber so little blacks should be showing now..hope to go up wed/thur..tomorrows skeds should be interesting...ch 80 if your on the coast..rick
  16. wow..the references to large snapper in lake mac with a school from the heads to pelican blows your mind..also schools of large mackerel in broken bay and Sydney harbor..maybe Spanish or spotties ??..also reference to plague proportion leatherjacket of the large yellow type...interesting reading to say the least..wow...rick
  17. if im not wrong its a pike not a snook..there are two species locally long and short finned pike..thats a shortfin..rick
  18. hi neil..yeah they are the fmj from tassie..cheap but effective..orange was goin off as well as green yellow..water had a bit more colour than normal...the surface luring was unbelievable..i caught three fish standing in the one spot..and missed multiple boofs..we have been told there are larger fish in the still water we fished but we didn't catch any this trip..hopefully next time..
  19. the knot itself may be stronger but the line is still only 6lb...so wots the point when a good uni knot is about 97 % knot...if you use 50% drag your only pulling 3lb so therefore you should never break a knot...me thinks too much thinking...rick
  20. just seen foto of 166kg blue weighed on xmas eve out of port..their out there..rick
