  1. Probably not so good for aluminium. Anything that remains damp for long periods can cause the aluminium to corrode.
  2. You can try putting the sinker on the bottom dropper and having a hook on the bottom of the rig. This gets the baits closer to the bottom.
  3. On some reels I have braid as backing and a mono top shot of about 100m. This way I can boost line capacity/ use a smaller reel. When I have braid at the business end I usually buy a 100 - 150m spool and use mono backing of sufficient length to fill the reel. It's too expensive buying 300m or more when most of it won't see the light of day. I am not worried about introducing extra knots as the line is only as strong as the weakest point and there will be a knot at the terminal end. Also if you double the braid with a bimini twist (at least 40 turns) then use your joining knot to mono then the knot will be close to 100% strength.
  4. The price I saw on the Parsun 15hp would probably come under the cost of 2 x 42lb electric motors and 2 deep cycle batteries. Boat licences and rego are pretty cheap.
  5. It's worth getting one (it will need registering too). It's a pain going under 10 knots.
  6. There are still some 2 strokes for sale from the last shipment allowed into the country. Including a very good clearance price on a Parsun 15hp. This would be an idea size for your boat with 2 on board.
  7. But the advantage of a boat is so you can move around, I am not sure why you would want to give that mobility away. Even a 15 hp on that boat will use very little fuel on a trip. Also deep cycle batteries aren't cheap and have to be replaced.
  8. Why not a petrol motor? Electrics are usually used for sneaking around and not as the main form of propulsion. The battery life/ range is a limiting factor.
  9. Remember that the max weight rating is at max tyre pressure so under inflating is a recipe for blowouts.
  10. You haven't told us what your tow vehicle is. If it is a large car or SUV then your rig is well within it's capabilities so you might as well do the speed limit. There are drawbacks doing 80 km other than increasing you trip time (frustrated motorist behind you leading to dangerous behaviour) . Otherwise it might be a good idea to go a bit slower. Your vehicles owners manual would be worth a look as sometimes the manufacturer puts speed limits on towing above a certain weight.
  11. We need more detail eg what HP is your outboard? How big is the boat? What is the make and model of the foil? Perhaps it is too big for your boat and provides too much lift but we have no way of knowing without some details.
  12. It's made from polyethylene fibres like the braided and fused GSP lines - it's just a different variation of the same category.
  13. Gelpspun/ braided lines in general have poor abrasion resistance. Though this is largely negated by having a mono leader. And they are good for lure casting due to their low diameter for breaking strain and low stretch.
  14. I wouldn't matter if the boat was under 4.8m. My understanding is that in that case it's only if one is on board that you need to wear a life jacket.
  15. The description says tiller steer but that doesn't seem the case from the photos. The price seems a bit high but private sellers often put a bit on for wiggle room.. Also don't overlook the trailer. Look for any rust in the frame, age of the tyres, bearings in good condition, springs OK.
  16. Yes, they showed video of the Bay on the news last night and it looked wild. The trouble is even if the wind has died off the bottom silt remains suspended for a few days and the fishing is very quiet. I was thinking of going Sunday but I am having second thoughts now for that reason.
  17. Well Mmg has a point with his multiple causes scenario. One of my favourite shows is Air Crash Investigations and you will find that planes don't crash from one cause - it is several lining up together. It's called the 'swiss cheese model'.
  18. Yes they seem more understanding than our armed revenue collectors - I mean Highway Patrol.
  19. I don't see why a spring scale is not sufficiently accurate if yo are just going to test your knots. A number of tests will reduce the error margin. Also if the line keeps breaking away from the knot then you know you have a 100% strength knot.
  20. Often the contacts corrode given they are so exposed to the elements. The light bulbs can blow too (usually you can see if the filament is broken or that the glass is discoloured). I wouldn't use Lannox, Silicon Spray or Innox would be a better choice after cleaning up the contacts first. It's not hard to rewire it yourself if all that fails. Make sure you use tinned wire.
  21. But dive charters and tourism would have risen anyway without the marine park, for one thing with the growing population . Ie it's hardly surprising that a sea change destination relatively close to Sydney has seen a rise in tourism over 12 years. That doesn't take away the fact there has been a considerable economic fallout from the park. PS: A government survey showed an 80% drop in angling participation after the Jervis Bay marine park was established.
  22. This article makes the case that the Batemans Bay marine park has had quite a negative impact on local business. Hardly surprising when fishing (both recreational and commercial) keeps a lot of these towns afloat: https://www.sail-world.com/Australia/Death-of-a-town--Marine-Parks-place-tourism-and-business-in-jeopardy/-104317?source=google.au
  23. There aren't really any LBG platforms at SWR. You can drive to Hat Head from there though. Also it is a long walk from the car park to Hat Head and one section is not for the faint hearted.
  24. A snooter device far safer than grabbing the bill by the hand. It keeps you away from the bill and hooks and you don't have to bend over the side. Likewise a de-hooker device. Two hook rigs are especially dangerous as while you are working on removing one hook you can have the other swinging around free.
  25. As others have said keep the boat moving forward. There are a couple of gadgets called a snooter and de-hooker which make the releasing job safer and easier. They are available commercially or you can make them yourself like I did.
